Universal Pictures has released a trailer for the Brett Ratner-directed Tower Heist, a comedy that stars Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Casey Affleck, Matthew Broderick, Alan Alda and Tea Leoni. Alda plays a Bernie Madoff-like financier whose ponzi scheme wipes out the pensions of the staff of a luxury high rise where the swindler lives. They aim to get their money back in a caper film shot completely in Gotham. Is it me, or does Murphy appear to be playing the wisecracking underdog that made him a star in movies like 48 Hours, Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop? After walking through a succession of kid-themed comedies that didn’t tax his talents, can Eddie regain his mojo?

It looks like this movie can potentially be decent/pretty good.
This actually looks good
Agreed. The script was pretty awful but this looks…less awful.
EDDIE!!!
Is that Eddie Murphy…. or the guy who plays Leon on Curb Your Enthusiasm?
Reggie Hammond is back?
exactly … only, older and MUCH MUCH more annoying. (I was in until Eddie came on screen and his suckyness invaded what would have otherwise probably been a good movie)
and why ‘black face’ Eddie like that? it looks absolutely ridiculous!
“seizure boy” made me lose it at work and i’m not an easy laugh, especially in regards to eddie murphy. this looks good
Really?
Eddie Murphy doing the same tired routine he always does makes you laugh — when you’re not an easy laugh, especially in regards to Eddie Murphy?
The seizure boy part was the worst part Eddie Murphy-wise. Went on too long, didn’t really make sense, or add anything to the scene. Felt like Eddie Murphy improvising.
Hey bright guy, do you have a child with seizures or do you know of anyone who has a seizure disorder? Then STOP LAUGHING!!! THis is not funny……are we allowed to say “black boy, or gay boy” in a movie, much less in life anywhere at all???? Get a life and recognize that this is a horrific disorder that our GOVERNMENT IGNORES!!!!! DO the research and then you will STOP laughing.
Not a big fan of Ratner, but even he can’t squander this good a cast. Might be good.
Looks good. Everybody looks old.
I think that’s because they are older. You see, in life, people age and get older.
The Murphy role is much like 48 Hours, and no…this won’t be the relaunching of Eddie’s career in comedy. Think that train left the station long ago, but Eddie can do some good work like in Dreamgirls. He is not done…but, he is not very funny anymore as his character has worn thin.
Film looks like it is entertaining…but, certainly not particularly funny. At best…a moderate success depending on the total production costs.
Thanks for that analysis Tom. Can you please answer that phone?
Hey Boss,
I guess you forgot…I do not have a boss, maybe that’s why I am not afraid to state an opinion.
You go buy Eddie Murphy stock and options on this film’s success…just don’t count my $10 for the ticket I won’t be purchasing. My only interest was in Alan Alda as the “Madoff” character…but, that was not enough.
I don’t hate Eddie Murphy…I am done with him as he has not been funny or different for many years. Trading Places was great…this film is not.
Like I stated…my guess…moderate success at best. But then again, I thought Hangover 2 sucked on its way to being a huge financial success…so, what do I know.
hahaha
you must be an Eddie Murphy hater because this actually doesn’t look bad because of him. His type of humor never got old. People never got tired of watching him in the Beverly Hills Cops movies, 48 Hours, Coming to America, Trading Places. People have been waiting for him to get back to it because it’s what he’s best at not the family stuff he’s been doing.
X-actly, R rated Eddie Murphy never got old. This looks hilarious.
I too was just about to write “This actually looks good.” .O beat me. Props, bro.
Good trailer. Welcome back Eddie!!!!
Glad to see this Eddie Murphy is back. I will be seeing this.
How on earth can you make a movie with this type of cast and still not be funny? Brett Ratner. That’s how

There. Done.
Eddie Murphy is just doing that vaguely racist Donkey voice in real life, and it’s the same exact part as the one Jamie Foxx had in Horrible Bosses. Looks bad.
Apparently when a group of white people need theft and murder consultants, they always turn to a black guy…
We do!!!
And love you all for it…
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ that’s AWESOME! (and funny too!)
+1
Eddie Murphy plays common criminal. It would have been funnier if Stiller and Murphy traded places. Then again Stiller playing a common thug would seem odd. Whereas Eddie seems more natural, right?
I don’t think his voice is racist. That’s the “Eddie Murphy” voice and he’s Eddie Murphy. Assuming that voice is some kind of universal black speech pattern is the problem.
That said, it is kind of sad that “I know someone who can help us commit a crime.” is immediately followed by images of a black person recently out of or about to be released from jail.
It’s no wonder certain people instinctively equate black people with criminality.
Hate Ben Stiller. Hate Brett Ratner. Love this trailer!
I’m with you! Really looking forward to this…
Looks super great. Seems well casted and premise sounds enticing enough for me to see it when it comes out!
This actually looks GOOD! This will be a big earner come the fall. LOVED the trailer.
I’m psyched to finally see Gabourey Sidibe in a mainstream comedic role!!
Seconded!
this looks absolutely god awful.
Wow. Ditto with what pretty much everyone has said. This looks like a lot of fun.
Mildly amusing at best. Ultimately a let down, I suspect.
Now that’s a solid trailer, with some great, timely wish-fulfillment behind the plot. If it’s anywhere near as good as it looks, it’s going to be a big hit.
FINALLY – Ben isn’t doing his normal schlocky/awkward thing. The Oscar is a lock for Alda.
I love Tea Leoni. I can’t wait to see her on the big screen.
donkey!!
