ION Television has inked a package deal with NBCUniversal Domestic TV Distribution for off-network rights to Universal Cable Prods.’ USA series Psych and Monk and Universal Media Studios’ Fox medical drama House. ION has picked up all six produced as well as future seasons of the detective dramedy Psych, marking the first time the series has been syndicated on a broadcast network, as well as all 8 seasons of Monk. Starting in fall 2012, ION will air House 2 times per week for one year, meaning that if the series continues on Fox (which is uncertain as star Hugh Laurie’s contract is up at the end of this season), the medical drama will air on 2 broadcast networks simultaneously. (Reruns of House air nightly on USA.) ION’s other acquired series include Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer, Without a Trace, My Name Is Earl and Flashpoint.

What is ION?
ION is a mostly cable network, it’s the old Paxson communications used to be called PAX network, they changed the name a few years ago. Dish Network carries it.
They are not a cable network, they have around 60 O&O stations.
The term “syndicated” is misused here. Syndicated/syndication occurs when a program or episodes of a show are sold by the studio/distributor to individual stations. A studio/distributor’s off-network sale to a broadcast network or cable outlet/channel is not syndication, as stated above re ION’s purchase of “Psych.”
Direct TV also carries ION (305 and 347).
Syndication is still the correct term, dumbass. It is off-network syndication.
It’s not a cable network, even if it is carried by Dish and DirecTV. I can access ION on three channels. ION East and West through Dish, and then on its real UHF channel through my local package. ION was indeed the old PAX network after an intermediate rebranding as “i”.
Ion is the largest Television group in the country. If you haven’t heard of it, you must not have a TV. You don’t need cable or satelite to get it, although they are carried on cable, dish and direct TV. They own 60 stations across the country in major cities and are the fastest growing tv network right now. They’re tag line is “The best kept secret in television”. I think the secret is finally coming out though.
