Jason Ritter has signed a development deal with Universal Media Studios to star in a new hourlong drama series from Parenthood and Friday Night Lights exec producer Jason Katims. Our sister site TVLine broke the news today. That means Ritter will stick around at NBC, where his drama The Event aired for one season, and also stick with Katims, who cast him as Lauren Graham’s love interest last season on Parenthood. Ritter, repped by ICM and manager Joannie Burstein, will reprise that role this season on multiple episodes. What remains unclear is the fate of Ritter’s former series The Event, which we reported last month was trying to find a way to land on its feet at sister network Syfy. Talks about the financial feasibility of moving a network show to cable did take place, but it’s been quiet on that front for a while.

Jason Ritter is a good actor who is on one great show, Parenthood and a terrible one, The Event. Although, on the Event he had great chemistry with Taylor Cole.
Looking forward to Ritter’s new movie ‘The Perfect Age of Rock and Roll’!
Is he related to krysten ritter from breaking? Jason is an amazing actor and so is she. Def runs in the family?
No, Krysten Ritter is not related. Jason Ritter is the son of the late actor John Ritter and his first wife, actress Nancy Morgan.
Not to mention that he is the grandson of “Singing Cowboy” Tex Ritter.
Funny how Deadline never mentions the famous parents. Publicist win.
That’s great to hear. Jason Ritter is a wonderful actor and I’d definitely watch this show.
Why does he keep getting work? He is Neilson Poison
Love that he’s going to be on Parenthood again! I am happy for his new deal, but I hope it takes a LONG time because I don’t want anything to take him away from the amazing chemistry he has with Lauren Graham on Parenthood. Sarah Braverman deserves a Mark Cyr in her life for the long haul!
He’s great on Parenthood – nice guy too.
Jason Ritter is one helluva fine actor and an even better person. (THE CLASS on CBS some years ago was robbed of a real chance at success…) couldn’t be happier for him and I hope UMS can come up with some projects that are worthy of his talent and kindness as a human-being.
Have you ever seen him at Comic Con? I had a chance to meet and interview him, the guy is an ass but plays a nice guy role in front of the press(for the most part).
Considering the true talent that is out there should we really be just handing jobs out to actors just because their parents\grandparents were good actors. John and Tex had talent, Jason needs to go back to acting school.
Any word on what genre this drama is?
I was totally impressed by him in the very small but thoughtful film Peter & Vandy. He felt like a real person – grounds a story well.
Noooo!!!!! The last thing we need is him killing this show too!!!! This series actually was worth watching but bringing him back is just dumb, lets stick with good actors…
