EXCLUSIVE: I’m told that Jennifer Lawrence is in pole position for the role in The Silver Linings Playbook, the drama that David O Russell will direct with Mark Wahlberg starring. This was a coveted role that many young actresses wanted.
Among those actresses mentioned as being in the mix have been Rachel McAdams, Blake Lively, Anne Hathaway and Andrea Riseborough (Madonna’s W.E.). If things go the way I’m hearing, Lawrence would shoot the film after she completes the role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, which Gary Ross is directing for Lionsgate. Production on Silver Linings will begin in the fall. Based on Matthew Quick’s novel, the film revolves around a former high school teacher who was institutionalized for depression and is then released into the care of his mother. He tries to win back his ex-wife but becomes involved with an eccentric neighbor with problems of her own. That is the coveted role.

Wouldn’t that be “pole” position?
Her? Over Rachel McAdams, Anne Hathaway, and Abbie Cornish?? Call me crazy but I don’t see what everyone else is seeing. Not saying she’s not a good actress, but she is definitely overrated. Can’t wait for Mark Wahlberg to look pervy next to her.
Rachel Mcadams is overrated. Anne Hathaway is in everything. Blake Lively can’t act.
Sorry, but Jennifer Lawrence is a much more inspired choice than the others.
I think we can assume Lawrence’s role is Wahlberg’s daughter or niece or neighbor down the street — NOT his love interest.
Age-inappropriate casting is pretty standard, but this is beyond what any sensible audience will stomach. I mean she’ll be playing a 16 year-old in HUNGER GAMES, Wahlberg is what — in his 40s by now? Hollywood’s gross but not THAT gross.
The role calls for her to be his love interest. Unless they go and change the script, that’s what it’s going to be.
But the role she’s playing eventually becomes Wahlberg’s love interest. Sorry but that’s gross especially for someone playing 16 for her current role. There’s nothing she can do that Rachel McAdams, Abbie Cornish and Elizabeth Banks can’t do {and arguably better, Abbie esp).
Who cares what role she’s playing in another film? In real life, she’ll be 22 when this starts filming. That’s not gross.
Sissy Spacek played a 14 year old when she was approaching 30 for Coalminer’s Daughter, and did topless scenes before that role.
Uh the audience cares. Call it “persona” or “image” or whatever you want but it’s very important and it’s why Bruce Willis doesn’t star in romcoms and Kate Hudson didn’t star in “Wanted.”
Fact is Lawrence’s critical breakout role was as an adolescent without a driver’s license, her mainstream breakout role will be in a hugely popular franchise in which she plays a 16 year old. So yeah, hopping into the sack with Mark Wahlberg will give quite a few people the heebie jeebies.
When I look at Jennifer Lawrence, I don’t see a 16 year old, and she has the versatility to play a variety of characters, just like Sissy Spacek, like you mentioned.
I don’t know what the fuss is about. There have been bigger disparities in Hollywood and no one has batted an eye. I’m pretty sure Richard Gere and Julia Roberts had a similar age gap, and had she played a 16 year old a few years prior wouldn’t have affected her image. How long is this poor girl supposed to play a teenager for? She’s an adult that can drink, smoke, etc. People that are trying to typecast her by age are delusional.
Jennifer Lawrence is sooo overrated
I have to disagree with you about Jennifer. I find her to be an interesting young actress and I respect the fact that she’s letting her work speak for her. In our tabloid/internet world, most actresses her age are known more for their personal lives and who they’re dating, because they’re more interested in fame than acting. She’s not pulling those cheap and easy punches, but just working, and I like that about her.
She’s not. The girl got an Oscar nomination in a year where a lot of amazing actresses had stunning performances. She did very good and it’s completely normal that she’s now getting other good parts.
No shes not you just want to sound like everyone else. tool
Jen Lawrence as Mark Wahlberg’s love interest??? Is anybody seriously sketched out by this? He’s 40 (looks even older) and she’s 20! She was born in 1990!
This is so f*%king gross.
Same age difference as Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, Marilyn Monroe and whats his name. Yeah its not a big deal.
hmm, I am 43 and I have a real life love interest who is 20. What is so gross about that? Lots of people in hollywood, and in the world, marry or have relationships with wider age gaps. If there’s maturity, I can’t see the problem, especially in a movie where the guy may look a bit younger with makeup and all.
there is a reason she got cast in x men and hunger games as a lead
there is a reason she was oliver stone’s #1 choice in savages before she dropped out
because she is that good
I guess in the age of young people having kids in their teens. Jennifer Lawrence who is 20 can play a widow (roll eyes).
Jennifer Lawrence is the sexiest, juiciest, hottest little mofo that H’wood has produced since the glory days of Christina Ricci’s indie thickness circa “Buffalo ’66.” One look at J-Law’s semi-nude, blue ass (and also human form) as Mystique in “X-Men: First Class,” and I was sold. Get it, J-Law!
Good for Jennifer. Jennifer Lawrence is definetly not overrated and all of the actresses mentioned are talented, I’m guessing it was Lawrence who impressed David O. Russel the most.
Looks like the role is a sexually aggressive woman.
Does this role require nudity? If so, I can see why Jennifer Lawrence can get the role. (Very few Hollywood actresses would do nudity; Rachel McAdams and Blake Lively clearly wouldn’t.)
Yes, clearly the “coveted role that many young actresses wanted” went to Jennifer Lawrence because she clearly wants to do nudity and the others clearly wouldn’t. That was my interpretation too.
Maria,
McAdams has already done nudity (Google it) and Lively will do it now that Green Lantern isn’t the star making vehicle she was hoping for. I like Lawrence. She’s new and has a full-bodied, warm screen presence; the others (McAdams, Hathaway) are wonderful but come off as a little chilly sometimes. She was terrific in Winter’s Bone, a really good movie that surprised me in how much I liked it.
Rachel McAdams or Anne Hathaway would have been great for this…
Lawrence seems too young
She has an incredibly inexpressive face, it’s a strange quality given her profession.
Blake Lively shouldn’t have been on the list to start with.
The truth is : Bradley Cooper & Anne Hathaway ( she actually signed on to this project ) were planning to star in this film, but their very busy schedules got in the way. Anne is currently doing “The Dark Knight Rises ” through the fall, and Cooper will do the next Derek Cianfrance film and another movie this fall. Also, after Hathaway turned the role down, David O Russell tried to get Angelina Jolie for this coveted female role. Trust me, Mark Wahlberg & Jennifer Lawrence were not Russell’s first choices for these roles.
you people are so uptight.
blake lively can´ t act? please watch THE TOWN with Ben Afleck,
she surprised me!
Seriously! She was really really good in that! A lot of people overlook Lively because she’s on “Gossip Girl” but she’s actually incredibly talented.
Mark Wahlberg WAS the first choice (remember?…this was a follow up to The Fighter? that starred MARK WAHLBERG.) Jennifer Lawrence was one of the many actresses testing for the role (Jennifer Lawrence is now on every director’s short list for dramatic roles) and Lawrence tested and demolished the competition and won the role…END OF STORY.
a, Anne H. & Bradley C. were both offered these roles ( without screen testing ) , and this was before ” The Fighter ” became a serious Oscar contender .
I agree Jennifer Lawrence is expressionless . She maintained the same expression in XMEN: First Class ( she looked out of place with most of these good actors ) & Winter’s Bone. It is insulting to compare Jennifer to the brilliant Sissy Spacek ( she truly has range and different expressions in her arsenal ) .
A- to the freakin’- men!
Lawrence has been under De Niro’s watch since she was 14. She is is “protoge” and that’s why she has all good press now. It’s typical for over 60 male dominated Hollywood..Remember Bogie and Bacall?? Bacall was 19 when they “courted…
metro…WTF???? (LOL!). Lawrence was under De Niro’s watch since age 14…(LOL). ?????.
I personally really like Lawerance alot more than the other actresses that they were hale-way thinking about. Think about it. Jennifer before she was cast in Hunger Games, she was in X-Men united and made a fabulous job as Mystic/Raven. She had no prior training to be an actress,no classes she took to become who she is. She already was.And she not a f**king stick like most women in Hollywood today.Jennifer actually is naturally beautiful and has a great “in-shape body” Do u understand that!? (>”)>
so great to see all the stupid posts claiming Jennifer is overrated is a miscast age this and that
nothing like the time to set things straight LOL
So to whoever said Jennifer Lawrence is overrated or miscast in this role? HA! Eat your words. She’s now an Academy Award winner so whatever you say about her, she’s got an Oscar to prove it.
