Joe Pesci has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles against Fiore Films, the producer of Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father, the latest hiccup in the making of the drama about the son of Mafia boss John Gotti Sr. In the suit, filed Wednesday, Pesci claims he was offered the role of Gotti Sr right-hand man Angelo Ruggiero and a $3 million payday, but after Fiore Films promoted the movie with him in the part and the actor gained 30 pounds for the role, it offered Pesci $1 million and a lesser role. “Defendant has no intention of paying (Pesci) $3 million or having him portray Ruggiero in the film,” the lawsuit claims. “Rather, plaintiff secretly planned to use (Pesci’s) name and likeness to promote the film and then to later concoct some pretext for terminating the contract so as to avoid paying plaintiff anything for the substantial publicity and ‘buzz’ that was generated.” The Associated Press reported that Fiore CEO Marc Fiore rejected the allegations, saying, “Before we had a deal, Mr. Pesci walked away.” John Travolta, Al Pacino and Kelly Preston already are aboard the film, which originally had Nick Cassavetes helming before he departed and was replaced by Barry Levinson. Production is slated to begin Jan. 3.

Anything with Kelly Preston has to be good. She’s brilliant… in a very understated and hard-to-see way.
If this allegation all true I hope Pesci sues the pants off of ‘em.
Yeah, she’s great…

I’ve been in involved in projects like this multiple times and it’s so infuriating when your gut tells you that there’s something seriously wrong but you keep with it because you’re holding out hope it’ll happen. This Gotti movie will NEVER happen and I doubt anyone else thinks it’ll ever see the light of day either. Just lots of smoke and mirrors. The fact they “gave” a role to Kelly Preston speaks volumes.
“You can make more money with a flop than with a hit.”
And you can make even more than that in development hell.
Gotti’s name is big enough to only require a solid script and director to guide real actors who fit the part unlike this assembly of miscast retreads. There seems to be an attempt to load this project with all sorts of recycled talent possessing perceived Marquee value better suited in an era long gone. Apparently Cassavetes saw the “iceberg” way ahead of time and abandoned ship. I doubt this is ever going to happen. Sounded like a publicity ploy from the start.
Mr. Scoon’s comment is oh so true! DeNiro, of course, but Travolta with the Mrs. and Lindsay Lohan in key roles? Cassavetes is one of the most under rated talents, as was his father and obviously DID see the forest for the trees. They know/knew exactly what they are/were doing and do/did not compromise their principles for anyone? DeNiro must be getting big bucks for his name alone to even be associated with it. And Barry Levinson must be really needing work to step in on a project like this. When the buzz about this ‘movie’ first began, television mini-series is what came to mind. To accurately and interestigly protray John Gotti’s roots and rise to the top of the Gambino enterprise, the movie would have to be longer than the Titanic.
I knew this producer was a scumbag from the start. Who goes to TMZ, Radar, and tabloids for publicity? This movie will never happen.
Odd that I was asked to help finance this GO picture less than a month ago, and the financing that was supposedly already in place looked bleak at best.
Get at them “casino style” Pesci. Haha!
They can’t jag-off a wise guy
Sucks! He needed this too to get back into the limelight. He’s fallen off the map for a while.
we want you back Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who would win in a fistfight, Joe Pesci or Danny Devito?
DeVito. He’s a producer, he won’t stay down.
danny devito now or 1985?
Ha-Ha-Ha… I can’t even
And we always wondered why would good actors like Joe Pesci and Al Pacino sigh to a movie with Lindsay Lohan. Now we know the answer – $3 million answers. Joe doesn’t get many roles these days. Of course when they promised him $3 million he agreed.
I wonder how much they promised Al Pacino. But then again Al played in that horrible Adam Sandler next movie. Where Al Pacino falls in love to Adam Sandler in drug. Is he poor so something? He should stop shamming himself.
And thanks to Joe Pesci we finally find out why Lindsay Lohan was offered Victoria Gotti role and then reduced to some minor role. It probably happened the same way as Pesci. That producer wanted to get public attention with all that Victoria Gotti-Linsday Lohan stuff. And he did. But then quietly reduced Lohan’s role to smaller. And in a brilliant way he made Lohan think that it was her own fault and he did her a favor by hiring her again
That’s genius.
Who knows maybe Nick Cassavetes didn’t run because of Lohan. He run when he finally saw that this Fiore guy is a fraud.
Oh and did I mention that this movie probably will never be shot? Where would they get money? If they promised Joe Pesci $3 million, then Al Pacino probably demanded at least five. John Travolta still thinks that he is big star. He probably demanded
at least $10-15 millions. Lohan would agree even at $500 000. And not to mention other actors and director. It’s at least $20-25 millions only for paycheck to actors. Who would give that kind of money to Lindsay Lohan movie?
That movie was suppose to start shooting in October. Then it was delayed to January. And then it will be delayed and delayed and then will die quiet death.
Rhea Perlman.
Hardly surprising.
Alarm bells started to ring as soon as they started throwing around Lindsay Lohan’s name.
This is a film best left as it is now…unmade.
Something…actually, many things…just don’t seem right about this project. I believe Joe Pesci may be just the tip of the iceberg for problems this production has…and, will continue to have.
While I can agree with the possible problems that might behold the making of this film, I would still love to see a movie on the fallen Teflon Don.
