EXCLUSIVE: The Shield and Saving Grace alum Kenny Johnson is joining another cop drama with an iconoclastic detective at its center. Johnson has been cast as a regular on the upcoming NBC series Prime Suspect, an adaptation of the popular British drama starring Helen Mirren. NBC’s Prime Suspect stars Maria Bello as Jane Timoney, a female detective struggling to make her bones in a tough New York precinct dominated by men. Johnson will play Matt Webb, her boyfriend. The role has been recast and tweaked after the pilot where the character was played by Toby Stephens. Peter Berg directed the pilot for NBC’s Prime Suspect from a script by Alexandra Cunningham. The series, which co-stars Aidan Quinn, will premiere on September 22 and will air in the Thursday 10 PM slot. Johnson, repped by Paradigm and KLWG’s Eric Kritzer, recently recurred on FX’s Sons of Anarchy.

I am so ecstatic for Kenny Johnson. He is talented , very sexy, manly , and extremely charismatic- these combined qualities are very rare in most leading men. Johnson deserves to be a bigger star.

Kurt Sutter said that KJ character will appear in at least 4 episodes of SOA, and that they’ll give him an open ending leave just in case this show tanks(his words)
“KJ on PRIME SUSPECT. will still do 4 eps of sons in season 4. Leaving it open ended so he can come back. You know…In case that show tanks.”
I luv Kenny Johnson. He give 110% in whatever he is in. And the thing is – I luv Maria Bello. But oh gosh – is the tough female cop the new ‘procedural’? Did the weak numbers of Chicago Code and Chase not clue anyone in on anything? And those lame trailers for that new Lifetime gal cop show look awful. Kenny J deserves better.
