Mark Valley is reuniting with David E. Kelley. The former Boston Legal regular, who most recently starred on Fox’s action drama Human Target before it got the ax last season, has landed a series-regular role in Kelley’s Harry’s Law on NBC. The deal has just closed, and he’s scheduled to begin the new gig on the Warner Bros TV legal dramedy tomorrow; the Season 2 premiere is set for Sept. 21. He will play one of two new attorneys (joining fellow new castmember Karen Olivo) at the law firm run by Harriett “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates). Christopher McDonald also recently joined the show as a regular; Alfred Molina and Jean Smart have signed on for early-season arcs. Valley, who happens to be a West Point grad and Gulf War veteran, recently wrapped Nu Image’s Medallion alongside Nicolas Cage. He’s repped by WME and manager Scott Melrose.

So basically they’re turning this terrible series into a mediocre Boston Legal.
Wasn’t Boston Legal a mediocre The Practice?
Boston Legal was on the air for several years and garnered a bevy of awards, so I think you’re making a ignorant statement by downgrading, and mocking the show as being mediocre. Boston legal, and The Practice were both incredible shows with a big fan base, and both shows held up in the ratings for several years. Your an ignorant blowheart, with no common sense.
And if awards were the same thing as ratings, it might still be on the air. Funny how that works, huh?
Jimmy you’re an idiot, and you’re also one of the main reasons why television has turned to airing such trash like, the real housewives, little darlings, the bachelor, the bacherlorette, and so forth. You my thoughtless, neanderthal are the reason why television has been dumb down. YOU! IT’S YOU! ALL YOU, AND YOUR SHIFTY EYED, PURPLE HAZE REASONING SKILLS, (DON’T THINK TO HARD ABOUT THAT LAST STATEMENT, I DON’T WON’T YOU TO HURT YOURSELF).
I can’t help but to wonder if you have Andy Cohen on speed dial hmm?
Wow, someone forgot to wash the crazy off her face this morning.
Kathy Bates could read the phone book and it would make good watching. The last season characters that are still on season 2 are great, good revamping. Although this is no Ally McBeal it is a good show on its own and does not deserve to be compared to all of the other Kelley shows. Give it a chance to prove itself in its own right.
Kathy Bates could read the phone book and people would watch. Harry’s Law should be enjoyed for its own merits and not always compared to the other David Kelly shows. With new characters this show should come into its own, give it a chance.
I’m glad. And this is not a mediocre show. Or a terrible series.
Enjoy season 2 while it last. It was still sheding viewers in the spring. Who knows if viewers are going to return in season 2. NBC does not have a stable core audience. So most shows get sampled and then the ratings start to fall.
Mark Valley was great on “Boston Legal” and I think he’ll be an excellent addition to “Harry’s Law.” It’s too bad that “Human Target” didn’t make it to a third season.
I agree. I’m glad to see Mark get a decent role. I’m also surprised at his vet status… that explains a lot about his personality and how he plays the roles he gets.
Mark Valley was great on “Boston Legal” and I think he’ll be an excellent addition to “Harry’s Law.” My only regret is that “Human Target” didn’t make it to a third season.
I miss Boston Legal and especially Spader and Shatner. It was a great show. I also like Valley but he is a bit stiff but will see. Love watching Kathy Bates
I’ve seen Kathy Bates on this series… and she seems awfully stiff and not really enjoying herself… almost like she’s ill or something. It’s strange. I loved her playing the character in the movie True Colors opposite John Travolta. She was brilliant!
Like all of us Ms. Bates is getting older. She is supposed to be playing a grumpy ill-at-ease with others role. She does that to perfection. YOU GO KATHY.
I did not like Harrys Law and this will not make me watch it. It looked like a retooling of the idea behind the failed NBC show with Jimmy Smits – even forget the title! Outlaw?
And I am still fuming over the horrible decisions that brought about the cancellation of Human Target that was one of the best shows on TV – a GREAT first season – one of the best I remember of any show. And they yanked, replaced and retooled it into mediocrity.
Good luck, Mark – see you again someday.
Too bad; I was hoping he’d get the lead in the WILD WILD WEST reboot.
Nothing is ever going to make up for what Fox did to Human Target, but I’m thrilled that Mark Valley has got a new regular gig! I’d much rather see him in another action role, and it looks like this gig will be more Brad Chase than Christopher Chance.
Anyone who found Valley a bit stiff in Boston Legal clearly misunderstood the Brad Chase character – he was supposed to be straight-laced to the point of rigidity to off-set the craziness of the other partners!
I’d love for Human Target to be picked up by another network, and for the whole of season 2 to be written off as a bad dream, but that’s never going to happen
Still, more Mark Valley on my TV is always a good thing, so I look forward to seeing him in Harry’s Law in september.
That’s right Eva, hold your breath and turn blue rather than watch a show (and a quality show at that, no matter your opinion) you “don’t like” to see an actor you obviously do like. And certainly don’t give the retooled cast a chance to work together because of course they couldn’t be any different from the previous cast, right?
I hope everybody keeps an open mind like you.
Personally,I think “boston legal” was a lot of fun & a very good show. It was on the air for five years & is truly missed by all its’ fans. The addition of Mark Valley to”harry’s law” will only tend to make a good program even better. I enjoyed him years ago on “boston legal” & it was a shame fox cancelled “human target” which I also enjoyed. To all of the loyal fans of “harry’s law”: I hope this show develops a much deeper fanbase & support-more viewers should start watching this quality show-(I’m sick of all the reality crap on tv these days & we need “harry’s law to be around for many years to come. With Mark signed on & Christopher Mcdonald becoming a regular character, & , of course, the wonderful Kathy Bates-lots of good times are in store for “harry’s law”! One more thing: I have also missed James Spader & William Shatner,”hey David” James isn’t available since he’ll be on “the office”,however,Mr.Shatner…..hey you never know-ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.Once again,Welcome back Mark Valley. Thank you 4 posting my comments.
I am glad to hear Mark Valley is going to join the cast of Harry’s Law. I loved his performance on Boston Legal and am sure he will add something wonderful to Harry’s Law.
Speaking on the topic of cast members from Boston Legal, I would love to see Meredith Eaton “Bethany” from Boston Legal on Harry’s Law, especially since she and Christopher McDonald were such a dynamic due on CBS’s Family Law.
I accept that Human target was a step below series that combines humor and action like “Justified” or “Burn notice”, but it was a enjoyable show and the first season has a point and a heart.
Agreed!!! I too would love to see Meredith Eaton on Harry’s Law. # 1 On my wish list: James Spader
First Shooter, and now Christopher Chance, and all this after they boot Snow and Token Black Kid off the show? Gee, wonder what demo they are going for with season 2?
nice to see Mark has gotten a new job so soon after human target wound up with a fate it did not deserve should be interesting to see how his character interacts with kathy bates, Harriete
Still waiting for Anthony Michael Hall to get back to doing some decent TV after “The Dead Zone” — bring him on to guest as Valley’s brother, they do look alike….
Very happy to see Mark Valley’s name attached to another David E. Kelley production; I always liked him on Boston Legal. I am one of those viewers of Harry’s Law that was disappointed with the first season and am hoping the tweaking of cast that is taking place will improve the show’s sophomore one. Here’s hoping Kelley can rework this show and develop something more on par with some of his terrific past series. I really want to fall in love with the characters on this show, but so far I am only mildly interested with any of them. There has to be more to Harry Korn than just grumpy!
On another note, congratulations to James Spader for getting a lead role on The Office; he was terrific in the finale of the show. Looking forward to seeing what the writer’s and Spader will do with this very strange character.
I will probably give Harry’s law a shot — Mark Valley is a fantastic actor. I would have preferred to see him as Christopher Chance in Human Target though. He excels at action, humor, romance … all very well done in the 2 seasons of Human Target. I hope he gets to show that he can do more than just action in this new series.
