Mike Vogel (Blue Valentine) is set to star in ABC’s new drama series Pan Am, which will air on Sundays after Desperate Housewives this fall. On the Sony TV-produced show, about a group of pilots and flight attendants working at the iconic Pan Am Airlines in the 1960s, Vogel will play the male lead, the charismatic and confident Dean who had longed to be a pilot since he was a boy and has just been made the captain of the amazing new Pan Am clipper, the Majestic, living every man’s dream, exploring the world and leading the crew. Vogel replaces Jonah Lotan who played the role in the pilot. Word is the role would be beefed up with Vogel on board. Also starring on the series are Christina Ricci, Kelli Garner and Margot Robbie. Vogel, repped by WME and manager Geordie Frey, will next be seen in DreamWorks’ The Help. His series credits include Miami Medical and Grounded For Life.

Too smart, too cool for Middle America. Anything over 5 years ago flies over their heads. Modern-day, faux-outraged PC-zombies won’t stand for ’60s behavior. MadMen gets away with it ’cause AMC boutique audience is so small.
Girlie emphasis on stewardesses in glamour days of air travel no match for “16 and Pregnant,” “Real Housewives” trashy-bitch reality shenanigans or aging “Desperate Housewives” cartoonery. Even my fantasy unprotected sex partner Ms. Ricci won’t be able to save it
Will be lucky to get 13 eps, will probably get cancelled after 3.
Prognosis even more dire for “Playboy Club” ’cause it’s on a shit network defined by “The Apprentice,” Jay Leno, and shitty awkward-pause comedies, with a star that Bible Belters seem to hate (Cibrian). The glory days of serious drama like “The West Wing” or Clooney-era “ER” are over for NBC and the audience has only gotten dumber and more country since then
I will watch both, but you heard it here first.
I’m sure you had a point in their, but it couldn’t be heard over how superior you sound.
It’s “there.”
Thanks for playing.
it’s ‘there,’ not ‘their” for superior spelling.
so there.
It’s “there.” And thanks for the compliment.
schadenfreude: Let me guess. You’re a liberal? LMAO! Your post is stunning and disgusting. And pathetic considering you’re clearly not as intelligent or classy as you try to pass yourself off as (while slamming entire groups of people to prove your “tolerant liberal self”). You ought to change your name on here to douchebag.
But I digress…
I’ve been a fan of Christina Ricci since The Addams Family flicks so I’ll check out at least the first episode of this to see what it’s like. Promos look intriguing. Plus Kelli Garner from Bully is cool too.
They’re waiting a bit late to replace the male lead though aren’t they? Or is this old news?
Wow, dude, have you ever looked in a mirror? Your response to Schadenfreude’s obnoxious, sweeping assumptions is to pile on some of your own? Maybe you and Schadenfreude should pair up as “Team Douchebag.”
schadenfreude – you must not have seen the pilot. Ms. Ricci is the worst part about it….and you think she is the one to save it. HA. Watch things before showering us with your opinion.
I can’t wait to see it my father was a pilot with eastern during that time period and the stories he told me were incredible. Pilots were rockstars and stewardesses were all hotties hopefully the show captures the way it was back then and the show will be very entertaining
Wow – way to generalize an enormous group of people. What a hateful, unpleasant, miserable person you must be.
Doesn’t matter who’s in it. It’s the most boring pilot I’ve ever seen. Not even Schlamme’s direction and West Wing music can save it. Snore.
I live in the midwestern south and I actually enjoy smart shows: 30 rock, mad men, the west wing, arrested developement, the good wife, and parks & rec. I am affluent. I am intellectual. I am better than you.
So shut up and let the entire US enjoy great television (which is what I pray PanAm will be)!
Mike is great. The pilot was so-so but maybe Mike’s charm will juice it up. GO MIKE!
LOL @ you folks, truth hurts. Just because a relative couple of people watch smart TV doesn’t mean a damn thing. Y’all are still crying over Arrested Development or Pushing Daisies getting cancelled. Hell, I liked Better Off Ted! Time will tell re: Pan Am but it doesn’t look good.
I’ve come to believe it has much more to do with the self-fulfilling prophecies of network scheduling than smart vs. dumb audience. Network programmers believe in a show, for whatever reason, give it some golden hammock slot between two hits, and it in turn becomes a hit. They believe less in another show, perhaps because they fear it’s “too smart,” give it some doomed time-slot, then move it around and pre-empt it, which exhausts its original fans and frustrates its would-be new ones. Then they announce the cancellation of the smart “cult hit,” by saying, “Oh, but we loved the show too, we did everything we could to support it…”
One of the worst pilots this year. Lotan was a total bore but nothing can save this show from the crappy script.
Period pieces are a hard sell on any network. This one will be gone by Christmas but before that it will be Playboy Club.
But the visuals in the pilot were fantastic, too bad you can’t sell a series to viewers on visuals.
uhm. not a good sign. the trailer was a beautiful dream with an empty core.
Why can’t we have intelligent, stimulating programming anymore, like Viva Laughlin, Hank or Cavemen? I give Pan Am 6 seasons, then it is doomed. I hate this. It sucks. All of you suck. Everything sucks. I hate life! Arghagrighairghairghargh!!!!!!!!!!!!
I aint ben edumacated enuff to like them there smarrt shows like that there 20 rocks and mad guys and that The Good Woman Lawyer but arestedd envelope with justine bateman that was a good shoe. I want them bringin back that thar hee haw and that thing with larry the direct tv guy but no I dont like that jay letterman either but bless his little heart. I like that two men and a half I think that sheen guy he gonna be on tv a long time. Gotta go, them knocked up teens is on
Why do you think 30 Rock is smart? Smug is not smart. Define it or please don’t comment.
Is it just me or is Schadenfreude the most conflicted poster ever? Seems like he can’t even decipher his own point in a post.
PAM AM will not live or die by “Middle America.” It will live or die first by its marketing and its time slot, and eventually its quality and ability to retain an audience.
Hahaha you guys love shooting the messenger. You act like brilliant network shows DON’T get cancelled prematurely while bullshit reality shows dominate both cable and network.
I’m not conflicted at all. We will be lucky if PAN AM (not “PAM AM,” there, mark) gets 13 eps let alone a back-nine. lsb above got it right
What ABC has going for it is they already have femme-centric dramas like Grey’s, Private Practice, and even the aging Housewives, as well as the new Charlie’s Angels this fall, so PAN AM is a good fit
And ALL network shows live and die by “Middle America.” This is why CBS is the #1 network, because they do shows that appeal to “Middle America.” That vast swath of country between big cities. When CBS did this show called “Swingtown,” which was essentially a hip cable premise, guess what? CANCELLED
Watched the trailer for “The Playboy Club” today and yup, prognosis still stands, and it will fare worse than Pan Am.
Oh and I wouldn’t have even known that Bible Belters even had a problem with Eddie Cibrian (something about him and LeAnn Rimes) if I didn’t read it on DEADLINE so blame Nikki
If you’re offended at being called dumb you probably are.
Thanks for playing though, haha.
