That didn’t take long: News Corp says this morning that it will no longer pay the legal fees for Glenn Mulcaire, the private investigator that News Of The World hired to hack into people’s cell phones. The company says its management and standards committee met today and decided to “terminate the arrangement” to pay for Mulcaire’s lawyers “with immediate effect.” The decision comes one day after News Corp Deputy COO James Murdoch told a parliamentary committee that he was “as surprised as you are” to discover that his company was footing the bills for Mulcaire, who served a six-month sentence in 2007 for phone hacking. Murdoch added while he would ”like to” stop paying for Mulcaire, ”I don’t know the status of what we are doing now or what his contract was.”

But they made sure to pay them while the hacking was going on.
That’s a good strategy. Clean up your mess by listening to your critics. Still, no accountability.
Follow the money.
You get Murdoch.
That’s why rich (I mean “Job-Creator”) CEOs should get paid 500 times what their average employee gets paid; because they are such aware, swift decision makers. They don’t react – they plan! Rupert’s testimony made it clear what a razor sharp strategist he must be in the day to day operations of News Corp. How dare anyone suggest that real world John Galt like Rupert pay taxes commensurate to his income. He is a living example of the American Dream! Through hard work and grit, he inherited a successful newspaper from his father. Then he made the dangerous, long journey to America with nothing in his pockets but hundreds of millions of dollars. Once he was here, he grew his business the American way: he took over other people’s businesses and laid off their staffs. I watched his testimony in awe of the man and his Horatio Alger story. Rupert represents what we all should strive for; to be born rich and get richer through any means possible until we get caught then plead ignorance to the means we used to get richer.
Let News Corp reap what is has sewn..
Murdoch and his media empire has for years been enabled by politicians, the legal system and more ‘mainstream’ media: all of whom not only have politely declined to take action against his outrageous misdeeds, they have latched onto and given ‘legitimacy’ to News Corp media-generated creations like the Tea Party.
Well with all the trouble brewing for News Corp, Murdoch’s enablers may decide to distance themselvces from News Corp, just as they have abandoned this lackey.
