Peter Jackson’s behind-the-scenes odyssey on The Hobbit continues (see Part I of his video diary here) as the first production block wraps and cast and crew dish on what they’re doing during their first break in filming. Of course, Jackson has less free time: He’s back to preproduction on the second block of filming, in postproduction on the first batch of scenes and location scouting via helicopter.

If you listen very closely, you can hear the sound of the Geek collective wetting themselves.
Who cares? Winter is coming…
A passionate director excited about this project, and a strong vision for the material. Everything that is missing from the David Yates directed Harry Potter films.
No mas! no mas!
It’s funny, I didn’t love the movies, but I LOVE these video blogs. I could watch them for hours.
Okay first off amazing video, now,
I know this is a dumb question but I have to ask
for starters how will they get hundreds of trucks, crew, cameras, lights, gear that is needed to these extremely remote locations
what will they do when some yet to be discovered creatures / monsters come out at night or the day and attack them or worse yet eat them alive ?
this is yet another example of why one should stick with CGI esp for extremely remote locations,
:O
I think that it is AWESOME that Peter Jackson is once again at the Helm of one of J.R.R Tolkein’s masterpieces. They have inspired virtually everyone capable of appreciating great literature and fantasy. Such divergent people from C.S. Lewis, without which “The Chronicles of Narnia” wouldn’t have been written, and Robert Plant who added the “Tolkein” flavor to several LeD Zeppelin tunes. I started my son out on “The Lord of the Ring’s” when he was 3 because I wanted him to be fearless and have some healthy “fantasy” role models working in his little mind. It has worked fantastically, my son, 7, and my 3 year old daughter are well behaved, and yet they take crap from no one! They are fearless! C.S. Lewis, and Tolkein were both competing Professor’s, who were gonzo smart. They new ancient languages, and histories forgotten in this day and age. I do think that it needs to stop with “The Hobbit” because “The Silmarillion” is too long winded like my Post.
