The always unfiltered Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter took to Twitter today to vent over the fact that his hit FX series did not land a single Emmy nomination. That included a snub of co-star (and Sutter’s wife) Katey Sagal, who won a Golden Globe for her role on the show in January. “The worse part of not getting an Emmy nod — Katey promised me a threesome if she won. Now I have to settle for me, her and the shaved bunny,” Sutter tweeted, adding, “The worse part of not getting any Emmy nods is all the wasted blowjobs I gave at the Academy picnic. My breath still smells like sour ammonia… Because you know if we were nominated I’d be all humble and blowing smoke up their asses. Now I can stay true to myself and just be a dick.”
Last summer, Sutter called the Emmy voting system “flawed.” Most of his barbs today were directed at the TV Academy and its relatively high median age, which he blames for his show’s snub. “Most Emmy voters think Quinn Martin is still a player… Two academy member walk into a bar. One orders a beer. Then they both die because they’re so fucking old… Saw two Academy members on the golf course. One asked the other what club to use. Then they both died because they were so fucking old… If my mom and dad were alive this Emmy snub would kill them. That’s not true, they were too old to understand my show. Just like the Academy.”
Sutter also alluded that networks may be buying Emmys, addressed the Emmy shutout of David Simon’s Treme and Frank Darabont’s The Walking Dead (“Me, David Simon and Frank Darabont are meeting at Home Depot to rent chainsaws and woodchippers”) and took a shot at Fox’s Glee, which is produced by 20th TV, whose Fox 21 division produces SOA. “Fuck Glee. Hate those annoying, “please accept me for who I am”, singing brats. there, I said it. Are you happy? (He later clarified that he “loves Glee” but is “tired of all the jizz piling up at its feet.”) Sutter, who after the rant returned to Twitter to state that he was “really OK with no nominations,” was much nicer to drama Friday Night Lights. “FNL gives me hope,” he tweeted about the football drama’s first best series Emmy nom, which it earned for its fifth and final season. “Maybe Season 7 of SOA will get nominated — when the guys have all become doctors and lawyers who sing in a fucking choir.”

These comments are to be expected from a gigantic douchebag like Kurt Sutter.
I never even heard of this guy until reading this post. He does his very talented wife no favors by showing how little class he has. Does he even know the difference between ‘worst’ and ‘worse?’ Anarchy has its limits.
What a shitty little man; there’s not enough money in the world to get me within 100 yards of greasy clowns like this.
you must be glee fans! if you don’t know who kurt sutter is, you’ve never watch sons of anarchy or the shield, and if you haven’t watched either of these shows, well, like i said, you’re obviously the glee fans!!
amen….SONS is an amazing show and kurt sutter is a douchebag? and steve levitan isnt?
Maybe he should rip off High School Musical for season 4?
Bitter, party of asshole?
Maybe your show would get more attention if anyone watched it and/or if it didn’t suck.
“No one” watched The Wire and it is the greatest show ever on tv, not to mention the best reviewed. So if you haven’t actually watched SoA (or The Shield for that matter), shut up.
That being said, I am alternately amused and repelled by his rants. They are funny (and a lot is true), but is also sad that he seems to care so much. Or maybe he doesn’t, and his rants or just a way to bring attention to his shows and maybe a few more viewers.
Don’t judge the shows on this. I am a female and I loved The Shield and i very much like SoA. Katy Segal is very good in the show. I like Sutter in his reoccurring role as Otto.
Also, Charlie Hunnam is SO very, very hot!
I love the show, but Mr. Sutter doesn’t need to use the f word so much in an interview. It doesn’t add anything to the content and detracts from the message, in my opinion. The show is great and you expect bad language because of the MA rating, but I don’t expect that language from an interviewee. Maybe Sutter needs a thesaurus.
HAHA, that is awesome.
Well done, Mr. Sutter!
This makes me sad. LOVE sons of anarchy and was disappointed to see it not nominated but all the hate will just put off new viewers. Let other people take up the fight for you – then more people will see how great this show really is.
What are you talking about?! I’ve never watched the show, but will be tuning in now as it’s great to hear people speak the truth, since the majority of people in So. Cal. and NY are wimps who won’t state their true opinions! Read David Mamet’s new book!
Watch the show from the beginning. It is excellent. It is basically Hamlet + the Sopranos with Bikers. It is clearly the best show on television today.
Hey “Truth”…I guess you’ve never heard of a thing called discretion. You shouldn’t have to “speak the truth” as “the truth usually speaks for itself.”
Do you KNOW the majority of people in Socal and N.Y?
Love him.
Too bad about the jizz comment. But still,
love him.
Doesn’t make it any less true.
The jizz comment was the only funny one!
Award shows are getting pretty bogus. If you look at what Oscar has chosen vs. what should have won you would have a whole different show.
Amazing. I wish I could work with KS. I’m sure we’d have a lot of fun bagging on employees at the Home Depot together.
Hate to say it… but SoA went from a decent Drama about bikers to a night time Soap Opera.
Will Jax sleep with his half-sister? Will Peggy have to do time in prison? Will Jax ever get his baby back?
Please, get back to being a drama about bikers instead of being another Lawyer’s Hospital.
Agreed. SOA really went off the rails in the insufferable Irish season. Some stupid awards show and Sutter’s hurt feelings aside, this show turned into a combination of a predictable soap opera + A-Team with all their ridiculous escapes…instead of worrying about being loved by his peers Sutter should figure out how to fix his contrived dreck.
I agree that the Irish storyline went on way too long. Although I did really enjoy the resolution of that season.
Great stuff from Kurt, as always!
I love that tweets are now becoming “news.” In all honesty, he has every right to say what he’s saying. GLEE is basically force fed to us, so you can’t help but detest it a bit (please see Ryan Murphy’s “holier than thou” attitude). SOA has been consistently great over the past 3 seasons as you can see by Katey Segal’s Golden Globe nomination and win in January. In conclusion, hooray for Kurt Sutter for speaking his mind about the Emmy voting…it seems a little archaic.
“And then the creator of Sons Of Anarchy started telling jokes, and then the jokes died because they were so fucking old”. The whole “suburban biker gang” hypocritically running guns and keeping their own town free of drugs lost me after season 1. And apparently Mr. Sutter doesn’t actually appreciate good writing, as he seems to equate being uncensored as being the same as being provocative. It can be, but it’s not a given.
he sucks
Also snubbed was Parenthood, especially Lauren Graham and Mae Whitman, and Sara Ramirez from Grey’s Anatomy. Snubs happen every year. But I am tired of the same white washed, outdated bunch of noms.
So your answer is to complain about two white-washed, outdated shows being snubbed?
Gosh, where to begin? I agree with everything he says – the same can be said for the Motion Picture Academy. All voting for all awards shows are skewed & unfair. Talent should not have to compete with each other. But it’s odd that as much of a renegade Suttor appears to be, why would he want to be part of the club he’s criticizing? As WC Fields said, “I wouldn’t want to join a club that would want me.” Enjoy the snub, Kurt, you wouldn’t be so cool if you were one of them. The fact that you didn’t get a nom just highlights how messed up the voting in the Academy is. Oh, and you’re right, Glee sucks!
Actually Groucho Marx said that, not W.C. Fields…
That Quinn Martin barb is priceless – I think I remember “A Quinn Martin Production” when I was like 4 years old.
I loved the Quinn Martin shows. The Invaders was great. I really liked the voice overs too.
But Sutter is right that the awards suck now. They pick the juicy shows the elite like and dump on anything that strays too far from their vision. Heck True Blood was better than Thrones but it gets stiffed and Justified should have been nominated instead of any of the shows along with Fringe and SOA.
They pick the juicy shows the elite like? You mean like the twelve Emmy nominations ‘Two and a Half Men’received over the past few years? Because nothing says “elite snobbery” like ‘Two and a Half Men.’
Nikki, please stop providing a forum for Kurt Sutter’s bulls**t.
Dear Emmy Voter,
Please watch the screeners and stop voting just for only the shows that you turn on when you get home from work.
I seconded Ryan. Nikki, you are the best because you expose Hollywood for what it is.
Hey, Kurt may get that 3-some after all…
And the Emmy’s? Fuck ‘em. Just like the Oscars, they continue to be less and less relevant with each passing year. It’s pathetic. Very rarely do the hordes of mega-rich, out-of-touch voters get it right.
Besides, the Emmy committee couldn’t nominate the right shows if they came along and took a shit on their very head.
They pretty much proved that point today.
Yeah, Kurt may just get that three-way.
Except Katey hasn’t told him yet it’s going to be him and her…
…and Charlie Hunnan.
It’s just silly that SoA has never been nominated. It’s great television, terrific writing, and inspired performances.
Blunt as ever, but Kurt makes a good point about the staid tastes of Emmy voters, along with the way genre shows are usually ignored. There’s also an ongoing bias against cancelled shows (as opposed to shows that are ending their run, like FNL). Just why United States of Tara was snubbed can probably be boiled down to there being no ongoing promotional incentive for it’s network. Plenty of good, yet cancelled, shows never get nominated, with Pushing Daisies posthumous win for Kristin Chenoweth a rare exception.
Maybe it will get a nomination for it fourth season. If it does something different and explores new territory. More character development and smarter writing. He should take a couple of pointer from his former boss on “The Shield” Shawn Ryan. How many years was it snubbed when it was clearly one of the top dramas on television from 2002-2008.
Dude, don’t even mention SOA in the same conversation as The Shield. In terms of writing they are worlds apart, The Shield didn’t need three or four seasons to get good, it was good out of the gate and got better.
hear hear. The Shield is the most under-rated series of all time.
We the fans DEMAND a Shield feature length picture. You cannot leave Vic in hell and Ronnie in jail! It’s time for a feature film starring the surviving cast. C’mon Dutch boy – start lobbying for a film.
These are the two most insightful comments on the thread. THE SHIELD was unquestionably the most consistently excellent show of the past decade.
Nope, that was The Wire (and I do also love The Shield).
Are you all aware that the SoA shares the same “universe” as The Shield? The niners figure prominently in SoA.
Maybe if SOA wasn’t so silly and over-the-top it would be taken more seriously. Breaking Bad somehow manages to succeed at making its craziness somewhat believable. SOA does not.
I agree. The show’s got a lot of potential, but last season’s finale was ridiculous. Katy Segal should have gotten a nom, but the show as a whole has a lot of room for improvement.
I don’t know if Treme was snubbed. The Wire would be in my top 5 shows of all time but Treme isn’t there.
Shameless got screwed.
Parenthood got screwed.
And there are several nods that are far more for the writer then the actor (Kathy Bates – let’s face it, let anyone read a long monologue from David E Kelley and you’ll get votes).
And some get nods based on past credit not current.
if there is an Emmy for most over-hyped show, then Treme should win.
No, that would be Mad Men. talk about nothing but a soap opera. As Uncle Stevie said, MM is nothing but, “a soap opera with a retro setting”.
I love Kurt Sutter.
Sincerely… Kurt Sutter
SOA was boring. BORING as shit. Seriously. I watched the whole fucking first season, hoping that the show would give me a reason to sign on. But it never did. I hate Glee too. But at least a couple of the girls are attractive. Did I mention what a snooze SOA is?
For such an anti-establishment, motorcycle-loving, rebel he sure cares A LOT about what the establishment thinks of him. What a cry baby. And wow… misogynist much? Nice comments about your wife! He should spend more time trying to make his crap show worthy of Academy votes, instead of blogging his yearly complaints. His comments aren’t worth repeating. So please, Nikki and everyone on your Deadline team, stop repeating them!
crass & crude, he’s never seen the high road I guess. FYI his show isn’t all that good, Justified is now FX’s number 1 show.
