UPDATE: At Comic-Con today, Steven Spielberg appeared on the panel for The Adventures of Tintin and said there’s a writer for Jurassic Park 4. The reality is that I’ve learned that screenwriter Mark Protosevich hasn’t been officially hired yet by Universal which is just starting the process of making his deal. But Kathy Kennedy and Spielberg have picked him to deliver the fourquel script. Protosevich’s credits include I Am Legend, Poseidon, The Cell, and the story for Thor. He’s working on Spike Lee’s Oldboy (which Spielberg at one time wanted to do). I checked with Universal just now and they think that, after stops and starts and stops, JP4 is really going to get made this time around. But already there’s a timing issue. Spielberg today said: “Hopefully we will make Jurassic Park 4 in the next two to three years.” But Universal tells me “that sounds too long. It would be great to have it sooner. Within 2 years sounds right: 2013.” That’s good news for Comcast/Universal considering it’s one of their few franchises and newer tour attractions. (Remember, Spielberg gets a percentage of the gate.)

Wake me when it happens. This movie has been in development FOREVER. Still no script anyone likes, apparently, no date and a vague “in the next couple of years” sentiment that seems like it’s been the same statement since 2005 or so.
I just hope Steve doesn’t direct it himself. Even JP3 was better than his horrid LOST WORLD.
Easy now, Doc. LOST WORLD wasn’t good, but even at its worst moment it was better than every frame of JP3.
I loved LOST WORLD. Sure, the original JP was the best, but LOST WORLD was a great companion piece if you ask me. JP3 was not that good at all though.
you are so right when 3 came out i was so excited but when i saw it i was issapointed steven please make 4 better please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indy 4 was in development for years and it finally happened. Cowboys and Aliens was in development for 14 years (today on deadline) and it finally happened.
So JP4 may happen soon too.
Umm…NO. JP2 is much better than JP3! In JP2 they don’t use animations unlike the third film in which they use for the spinosaurus. Speilberg needs to direct JP4; if they want it to be good
Loved Jurassic Park, never cared to see part 2 or part 3 and certainly won’t be seeing part 4. Nothing more than a cash grab by Universal and a chance for Spielberg to play with an old toy.
THE LOST WORLD: JP2 was actually quite good. Julianne Moore rocked, and Jeff Goldblum was an interesting lead. Also liked the daughter. The cinematography looked great, the lighting in the forest, etc. And very well-directed tense scenes.
The 3rd one sucked though and the problem is they hired a hack director Spielberg wannabe by the name of Joe Johnston who directed the awful WOLFMAN and the critically bashed CAPTAIN AMERICA that’s opening today.
If Spielberg does JP4 himself or hires a decent director – Abrams maybe? – then it has the potential to be good.
Captain America was critically bashed? Um, are you an idiot?
Critically bashed. Haha. Check your facts dude. 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.
i say ditch steven spielberg he doesn’t write nor contribute anything original when it comes to filmmaking
Um … He’s probably the great living filmmaker.
When was the last time he did anything of value? He WAS the greatest filmmaker. But now he’s just making cash grabs. The dude has so much money to play with he should be making movies like Schindler’s List again, not fucking War Horse, Tin Tin, and JP4.
R u sick JAmes CAmeron is the greatest Avatar, Titanic, Alien, TErminator, and You want to compare that to Jurassic park or Jaws cheese give me a break
I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What the hell – are you two people 20 years old? “Greatest living filmmaker”??? Maybe if you’re the head Univeral, or a shareholder of a media conglomerate. Spielberg is infantile and tedious, the director’s version of Froot Loops cereal – colourful and sweet, but after three bites, bland and pointless. In twenty years, nobody will bother watching his movies.
People are watching movies he made more than twenty years ago, and people will still be watching them in another twenty years.
Also, let’s not forget that the guy made Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan, so he proved that he can handle serious and powerful subjects just as well as the fun entertaining stuff he made his name on (most of which is great in its own right). Don’t hate on him because his movies make money.
Spielberg has made some crap and some masterpieces. Leave him alone. This franchise and idea just needs some new blood in it to make it feel like more than just another sequel. The Lost World was just sheer torture to watch. JP3 was at least entertaining in a B movie type of way.
Well, I know for sure that I’ll still be watching Jaws and Close Encounters, and Raiders of the Lost Ark and several others 20 years from now. Don’t know about everyone else.
People will be watching his movies forever. Go to IMDB and see what he has directed cause you seemed to have forgot.
You are such a fool. It must suck being you.
Are you serious with that comment? Saving Private Ryan, Empire of the Sun, Schindler’s List, Color Purple, Amistad, Minority Report, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Munich to name a few. What is your malfunction pal? Your opinion is about as pointless as most movies made nowadays.
NOT !!!!!!!!!!!
and you can do better ha i laugh at your comment NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOB
They’ve been saying this for years. I remember reading about a script treatment way back in 2004 that was supposed to star David Boreanaz as a mercenary who goes to find Nedry’s samples on Site A, then gets caught by commandos working for a Swiss industrialist who is breeding new intelligent dino hybrids.
The problem is that there really aren’t a whole lot of places you can go with the story. The third film was pushing it with a return to the island. Any follow-up must expand the story to pick up on the thread from the ending of the original film (the pterodactyls flying over the ocean towards civilization) – anything less will just be a retread.
I read that script. Funniest thing I’ve ever read.
Those weren’t pterodactyls, they were pelicans. It was a connection to the point about birds and dinosaurs being related.
Jurassic two and three were awful. And yet I love the idea of a fourth because with new technology, one can only imagine how well this could succeed! Seeing the original JP remains one of my best film experiences ever (next to E.T.). By that I mean the entire audience together was gripped, entertained and thoroughly saitisfied. (Oh and perhaps more importantly not a asshole among us to be found, which is, sadly, ever so common today.) Everyone was in it for a good time. Having a film audience in concert like that is a rare thing indeed.
Do it, Steven And do it right! By the way you still owe me $100.
I gues with special effects 3D Jurassic Park 4 will be much better cos deffenetly 2 and 3 were a load of crab, the realism was not potrayed and as a spectator I can say I did not immerse in the film
Of course…but, with Tin Tin there is more economic incentive.
I can only hope War Horse is, once again, Steven at his best. I miss this Steven Spielberg.
as unfortunate as it is, spielbierg’s lost his mojo. hand this over to JJ Abrahans and he’ll nail it
He’s just a director that somehow always gets the best projects with the best people. I’m not sure if SS can even come up with the idea of an original movie and write it, but correct me if i’m wrong.
Want to nail it? Make a prequel! Maybe even a series of prequels!
Now, if only Steven Spielberg, would get out of his Kingdom and go bake on an Island,
, and text times 97 times Iii, well, maybe some can get a cool money making railway…
How about some titles concepts:
Jurassic Park: All crossed UP: This would be the 4th one. From vision, development, early stages.
Jurassic Park: Hands Off: Serious failures! This would be the 5th. The no breeding requirement is eyed, implemented and the killing off of the bad males. Perhaps the last, depending upon dollars, although a third could be squeezed.
Naturally, all prequels should be written before any made, and crossword puzzles of Jurassic Park, given to those who think they measure up to this task.
WTF? This is gibberish. Learn how to coherently put sentences together before posting this garbage.
The critically bashed Captain America that’s over 70% on Rotten Tomatoes? Oh and Lost World utterly sucked. Goldlum’s daughter karate kicking a veloceraptor? I think a few of you have forgotten how horrid it was especially by Spielberg standards.
Why couldn’t they use John Sayles’ draft of the Jurassic Park 4 script? You know, the one that had been on the shelf for years?
I wish I knew someone important at Universal because I have a great idea for a Jurassic Park script.
If the execs are smart….they will turn the director’s chair to JJ Abrams. He knows how people want movies these days. Yes, Indiana Jones 4 was a good movie but really folks, how long as it been since Spielberg delivered the goods for a good flick. It’s beeen years since that has happened. Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan and the original Jurassic Park are classic but since then he hasn’t really delivered the bang for the buck. Some of the movies have been okay but others like Minority Report and War Of The Worlds weren’t good at all….they both sucked. Keep Spielberg on as a producer but let Abrams direct this installment.
Minority Report was “okay”?
That film has a 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and is considered one of his best pictures.
Indy 4 was a festering pile. Spielberg didn’t want the aliens, that mess was all Lucas. Don’t even get me started on how Indy has the ability to survive nuclear bombs and radiation poisoning now. Please. When Shia got wacked in the privates with all that foliage while straddling those jeeps, I felt this incredible catharsis for having to sit through that film. The ending unfortunately brought back all the trauma. Karen’s acting was awful, but since she did so well before, and Lucas’ dialogue has only gotten worse over the years, I blame the writing. Should’ve never brought back a previous Indy actress anyway.
“Yes, Indiana Jones 4 was a good movie”
Either you watched it shortly after major head trauma or possibly went into the wrong movie screen at the theater.
the whole point of Steven talking about Jurassic Park is so Steven can avoid talking about Tin Tin.
Although I agree with you re; the beard being empty, tedious calories, people have been watching his films for almost 40 years. I don’t think they’ll be going away anytime soon.
Before you bash Lost World do read the book. Totally and hugely different from the movie in a really awesome Chricton-plausible manner. The movie cracked me up when I finally got to watch it.
it was a crichton book first, and he is dead. nobody can do better. just gimme some damn dinosaurs running around and eating people, that’s all it takes.
I loved all three Jurassic Park films. I have a marathon at least once a month or two. Can’t wait for the fourth. I hope it’s done by 2013 because that’d be 20 years since the first film.
I do not understand this comment at all. But I love it and agree with all of it. Please post more. Every day.
JP4. No. Step away from the franchise and leave it alone.
Jurassic Park was fantastic and never gets old. 2&3 were pitiful. I can’t even imagine what the plot of JP4 would look like – unless it involves the pterodactyls like someone posted earlier. Maybe it would be like The Birds.
okay first off dont be trashing this, there has ben some of us who grew up with jp and the toys and it has a special place in our hearts,Ive ben waiting since 2001 for jp4 thats along time out of some ones life, indiana jones 4 wasnt spielburgs fault he never wanted to do it it was georges ideah and he wrote it,and it was stil good..JURASSIC PARK 4 will be amazeing and spielburg has my respect hes one of the best directors out there. this will live on stan winstons and Michael Crichton’s Legacy so you just wait any one bad mouthing this will be proveing wrong here in the next few years ,this is the movie that will be orginal and change the way we look at hollywood sequels. Hes doin the movie because maybe its special to him ,you ever think about that? and thats what i real director is. Ill be there first day midnight first in line and first for everything SO BRING ON JP 4 HELL YES
Jurassic Park in 3D ? I’m in
Nothing like buying a garbage dump, even 2x, for a loss, to win in the end.
But, that would make for an, an, interesting, cool, Duplicity 2.
And those hammers, well, they sure move pistons, quite well.
I can’t believe all the hate around this. I admit that they should have left it alone when they made JP3. That movie was a mistake. But I feel that JP3 left us with an unsatisfied conclusion to the series. If they really do make a JP4, they could finally finish the franchise up, like they did with Indy 4. I know that many don’t like Indy 4, but I loved it.
But no bashing Joe Johnston. His original idea for JP3 was completely different but, becuase of the persuasion of Kathleen Kennedy, we got Spinosaurus and that terrible rescue mission idea. David Koepp is responsible for the bad ideas behind TLW too.
I say keep Kathleen Kennedy and David Koepp out of it. This film has a lot of potential and can redeem the last two movies. I’d like to think that Spielberg and Johnston realized what they did wrong with the last two movies and go back to the roots of the first one. I know Johnston said “A new direction” and a new trilogy, but I hope this new direction is a prequel or something.
Also, just becuase Spielberg want money, doesn’t make him a bad director. He is the most successful director yet, and no one can deny that. I think most of his films are great and I look forward to this.
