News like this, from a show about storage units, should scare the hell out of people that work in scripted television
hey, people are watching TV and that my friend is good for all TV.
I work in scripted television. I love Storage Wars. It poses no threat to any of our jobs.
I’m sure that’s just about the same kind of statement the big three networks made when cable channels started popping up. I think we’re seeing reality shows delivering the final, crushing blow to scripted shows.
Maybe it should be an incentive to write better, more compelling stories and less crap…
Even though it’s called “reality television,” it’s still pretty heavily staged and scripted.
I love this show!
@mike- The personalities are the stars- the storage units auctions are only the initial foundation. You have four distinctive personalities bidding for the unknown. Some are winners- and some are losers- mix in a greedy consignment owner (Dave H) a Hollywood type collector ( Barry) a bickering young couple (Darrold and Brandi) who own a thrift store always trying to make ends meet, and a rebellious independent( Darrell) who justs want to turn a dollar. Though someone from A&E should tell Dave Hester to stop playing to the camera- it shows.
The show wouldn’t be any good without Dave Hester. There’s always got to be a bad guy. lol
“The 10:30 PM episode drew 5.1 million viewers, 2.9 million of them in each of the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics”
Let’s see foreclosures, unemployment, pot smoking.
Seems like the perfect theme for a show that reflects a large population of 25-54 years olds who need to move, lost a job, and still have a bunch of crap they need to store that was bought on credit.
It’s sad that shows like this are actually staged/scripted. Oh America, you fall for it every damn time!
It’s still not as obvious as Gene Simmon’s show.
Who is falling for it? The show’s strength is the personalities of the stars, not the storylines.
I guess this opens the door for “Dumpster Divers”. I picture that as the next “reality” show.
Sorry to tell you it’s already in the pipeline…..two dumpster divers in New York turn trash into treasure and sell it in the flea markets. I thinks it’s called “King of Fleas” ; )
less law/medical procedurals, more characters!
Celebrity Hitchikers?
I don’t get it…I actually watched and liked this show the first few times I saw it, but it never changed. I kept trying, but it kept boring.
I haven’t the seen new season but maybe it changed a little?
This show is so phoney it stinks!
They were caught big-times by a group of collectors when things didn’t seem “right” on one of the episodes. Some Collector supplied them with rare (and I mean RARE) “Mego” Superheros Toys from the 1970′s for the “Find”! Even the “comic shop” they brought them to DOESN’T DO collectible action-figures! Item in the store were “props” as well.
Do they REALLY Need to stage stuff, when the thrill of what may or may not be in the storage units can be exciting as a game show?!
Fake,Phoney,Stuff!
