No surprise here – Fran Drescher’s new sitcom for TV Land Happily Divorced has done well in the ratings, so a second-season renewal was a given. TV Land is building a nice streak – all 3 original series it has launched so far, Hot In Cleveland, Retired at 35 and now Happily Divorced, have gone to a second season. Next off is the winter premiere of The Exes. Here is TV Land’s release on the Happily Divorced renewal”
New York, NY, July 20, 2011 — TV Land announced today that it has picked up its original sitcom “Happily Divorced,” starring and co-written by Fran Drescher, for a second season with 12 new episodes tentatively scheduled to premiere in Spring 2012. “Happily Divorced,” inspired by Drescher’s own life, also stars John Michael Higgins, Tichina Arnold, Rita Moreno, Robert Walden and Valente Rodriguez. According to Nielsen, “Happily Divorced” is averaging over 2.2 million total viewers, a 1.0 among A25-54 and a 1.3 among W25-54 season-to-date, posting triple digit gains over the network’s primetime average.
“We are thrilled that our viewers have embraced ‘Happily Divorced’ just like they did with ‘Hot in Cleveland,’” said Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land. “It’s fantastic that we get to keep working with Fran, this amazing cast and all of the talented writers on another season.” Keith Cox, executive vice president, development and original programming, TV Land, added, “‘Happily Divorced’ really resonated with our audience and we can’t wait to see what new plot twists are in store for next season.”
Drescher will co-write the show alongside her real life ex-husband, Peter Marc Jacobson. Jacobson previously worked with Drescher as co-creator and writer on “The Nanny.”
Filmed in front of a live studio audience, “Happily Divorced” airs on Wednesday nights at 10:30pm ET/PT immediately following new episodes of “Hot in Cleveland.” Inspired by Fran Drescher’s own life, “Happily Divorced” follows Los Angeles florist Fran (Drescher) whose 18-year marriage ends suddenly when her husband (Higgins) announces he’s gay. And if that weren’t enough, he can’t afford to move out. They figured out how to be “Happily Divorced,” but her being single and his being gay, while living under one roof, is a whole other story. The series also features Fran’s best friend Judi (Arnold), her parents Dori and Glen (Moreno and Walden) and her flower delivery employee Cesar (Rodriguez). Fran Drescher, Peter Marc Jacobson, Frank Lombardi and Franco Bario are executive producers, and Larry W. Jones and Keith Cox serve as executive producers for TV Land.

This show is so much better than the daytime soaps…
This show stinks
I watched the first two episodes of the show before canceling it as a series on my DVR.
Hot in Cleveland is entertaining, but this show is horrible. Obvious lines about the gay theme that are delivered as if the actors are expecting a rim shot. Maybe in season 2 they will hit their stride and the show will be more polished.
I won’t be holding my breath.
Very happy for Fran, but this show could not be worse.
For season 2, they should get rid of Cesar (horrible actor, terrible character) and put Tichina Arnold to use. Fran the actress and Fran the character (considering she’s played the same one three times already) is at her best when getting into trouble and Judy (Arnold) should be the perfect sidekick for her. And if that means less of Higgins, then so be it, he’s not that good here either.
And for season 2, we get it people!, they were married, now he’s gay, move on.
@benitodelicias…you couldn’t be more wrong! Valente and John Michael Higgins are AMAZING!
I haven’t seen this show, but Arnold was excellent on Everybody Hates Chris. More of her would probably be a good thing.
Fran’s show doesn’t keep me as a viewer. I prefer timeless classics like Frasier. When Fran comes on, the tv goes off and the Kindel gets turned on.
I really LOVE Rita Moreno and John Michael Higgins! Great casting for the show.
Very true, but Moreno is wasted on this mediocre series. I’ve watched two episodes, which is all I could take, and Moreno was so out of place in this cast. Way too talented for this bunch; Higgins, as well.
Love Fran, Love John Michael Higgins but the writing just isn’t quite there. Yet? Here’s to Season 2 finding its stride & doing justice to a very good ensemble of actors.
Great news! Love to see Fran succeed. This show is full of LOL moments.
I AM GLAD THAT FRAN DRESCHER GOT RENEWAL. I CAN’T WAIT TO BUY THE DVD WHEN IT BECOME AVAILABLE. IT WILL BE INTERESTED TO SEE WHERE THE SHOW WILL GO. IT PROVE ONE THING IF YOU TELL A STORY FROM THE HEART THAT SHOW WILL BE A WINNER. GOOD LUCK TO THE FUTURE. YOUR TRULY CHARLES DAVID HASKELL
It’s a great show that caters to what Fran does best. Just because you’re not a fan doesn’t make it a bad show. TV Land is trying to do all sorts of comedies that appeal to all sorts of people, and I think they’ve done a great job.
Love Cougar Fran and this show. Can probably count the # of TV shows I watch on one hand. And 2 of them are on TV Land.
Congrats Happily Divorced for second season pick up! Keep the sitcoms coming TVLAND.
Poor Wilma. She never gets to go to Rock Vegas.
Oh, shit…different network.
The show is spectacular interesting and fashonable with a funny story concept true in itself to the many people of a sence of that kind of beauty and humor we would not expect all of us great true fran die hard fans to see that none compairs to the dumbfounded…..
Not an awesome show, but much better than some of the new comedies from networks last season. Definitely as good as last season of The Office and 30 Rock (which is not a compliment)
Great show and glad to see TV Land showing faith in the traditional multi-cam format. Can’t wait to see more episodes!!
Hilarious show. Love all the characters, especially Cesar. He’s so funny!!!
This show is wonderful. What a great nod to classic sitcoms – TVLand keep up the good work! This formula with sitcom stars and playful stories is definitely working great!!
this show has really hit it’s stride! i think all the people who don’t like it just need to give it another chance. my only problem is, why is season 2 set for spring 2012?!?! It’s too far away!!
Horrible clothes
Fran Drescher is the best commedienne on TV. In addition to being funny, she is smart and a great actress. I am so happy to see her back on TV. Nothing will ever be as great as THE NANNY, but this series is well done and so much better than other sitcoms. In fact, it is only one of three sitcoms we watch (the other two being Hot in Cleveland and The Middle–which is also great and underrated) Happily Divorced has an excellent cast. I would like to see more mischief “Lucy-esque” situations with Fran and Tichina.
Tichina is wonderful! If you don’t like this series, don’t watch it.
But stop knocking it–many of us love Hot in Cleveland and Happily Divorced and want to see quality scripted shows–not stupid reality shows about baking cakes or kiddy dance studios or icy roads etc. etc. etc.
Like all great sitcoms, Happily Divorced needed a few episodes to find its stride. Viewers who stayed with season one were treated to razor sharp and very funny writing. Despite the guest appearances by The Nanny castmates, Ms. Drescher is brilliantly crafting a whole new character who will, undoubtedly, become as beloved as Ms. Fine. The entire cast is pitch perfect; this is just the beginning. I predict that Happily Divorced will become as iconic as many of TV Land’s classic sitcoms.
Does Fran Drescher own TV LAND? I can’t stand the Nanny and always switch off when it comes on. Now Happily Divorced and Nanny dominates TV LAND scheduling more then any other sitcom and it is annoying. All my friends feel the same so I can’t believe she is doing as well as it states. She has no talent other then an extremely annoying voice!!!!!
So happy that Happily divorced is coming back also hot in Cleveland, about time we go back to funny programs, sosick of blood and guts and depressing programs, and scifi,I like things that seem real not fake? what about the Long Island Meduim with theresa Caputo,is that coming back also, love that show too? sick of soap operas on at night an dkids shows on late at night, who wants to watch Sponge bob, dora explorer an dfamily guy an dhorrid show the simpsons? get rid of them at night put them on in morning for kids to watch, not adults only show i love is Clifford the big red dog?
