EXCLUSIVE: Well Go USA has acquired all North American rights to Hit So Hard, a documentary feature about Patty Schemel, the drummer in Courtney Love’s rock band Hole. Well Go has partnered with Variance Films, which plans to release the film in major markets early next year. The film follows the career rise of Schemel, who was catapulted into the music scene in the 1990s with the band’s success, and looks back at her relationships with Hole, Love and Love’s husband Kurt Cobain and the addictions that almost killed her. P. David Ebersole directed the pic from a screenplay he penned with Todd Hughes. Hughes and Christina Soletti produced. The rights deal was negotiated by Kevin Iwashina and Christine D’Souza of Preferred Content and Ryan Saul of APA on behalf of the filmmakers, and by Well Go president Doris Pfardrescher.

So there will be a George Harrison documentary from Martin Scorsese, and a documentary on the drummer from Hole. Can an insider tell me how these things get decided? Do people lose bets? Does someone flip a coin? Does someone get drunk and blind-folded and then throw darts?
markLouis,
These things get decided when a filmmaker decides to make a film on a subject that interests them.
Way to go David & Todd and everyone else involved! Well deserved congratulations!
Who? Never heard of her, and I used to listen to Hole. How about a documentary about the one-armed drummer from Def Leopard? Now that is a story. Not this piece of crap.
You never heard of Patty and you used to listen to Hole, you haven’t seen the film and you think it’s crap…you should be embarrassed by your comments…really shortsighted and showing your ignorance.
Hole is good, they are just not as dynamic as other bands. I’ve maybe listened to one of their albums. I don’t think the drummer is significant enough to make a feature documentary about. This subject matter is better suited for a VHI Behind the Music segment.
BTW…I am not embarrassed by my comments or my opinions. I am sure this doc will have a nice life disappearing into the archives of Netflix.
Finally – Go USA must have had to fight off a lot a competition to “acquire all North American rights” to this gem.
I, for one, can’t wait to see the exploits of “the drummer in Courtney Love’s rock band Hole.”
Maybe you should see the doc before judging. Not just about Patty but the fact that she was one of a hndful of female drummers in a major rock band, plus she had compiled over 40 hours of never before see footage of Cobain, Courtney and their daughter.
Very compelling…yes, a little packed with info and gets lost sometimes, but definitely a must see if you grew up during this time, and followed the grunge scene.
Plus the music is great.
Sounds riveting. Just riveting.
This is another positive sign that rockumentaries are the most profitable areas of “reality TV”. I am trying to raise funds for a documentary about the bassist of the HooDoo Gurus. Please find me on FB if you want to invest.
Cluld be interesting depending on the angle. She must have seen some crazy azz stuff
If you’re not interested, don’t watch it. All your stupid sarcastic comments are just obnoxious. I’m personally VERY excited to see it.
its really after being pattys tale the tale of hole my band in the 90s and the INSANE shit we lived thru, remarkable were , any of us,. here. shove off if you havent seen it, its pretty hardcore brilliant,
Based on her writing style online, I think this really is Courtney.
Get the band back together! We miss you guys.
Hey Big C-
You fancy yourself an original but in the end you are just a dime a dozen femme fraud. Your plastic fantastic fake face speaks volumes and runs counter to all you once did protest too much. Just cuz you starred in your own dope show once upon a time don’t amount to smack now.
Some of the footage is a amazing. The doc is all over the place though. Can’t decide what it wants to be about. Needs a new cut.
Go USA made a smart choice! Patty is an icon and I am so inspired by her story!
Another story in the long list of rockers that get caught up in drugs. Wow….that’s so original. Already been done.
A better story would be about Samantha Maloney, who replaced Schemel, and had to deal with all the insanity surrounding Love. She didn’t become an addict and went on to build a remarkable career which included replacing Tommy Lee in Motley Crue as well as many high profile gigs. Now THAT’S a story worth telling….
Lotta snark and bullshit here, mostly from men. I bet if it was the life story of Peter Criss or some other old coke-snorting ’70s guy, dicks would get hard from here to Bangladesh. It’s not about Patty, or even Hole, it’s about the ’90s rock scene incl. Nirvana by association. I actually knew another girl who was on Hole’s last tour as violinist. Sounds cool, I’d watch it.
can’t wait to see this film!!!! go patty!!!
I was 14 years old when Hole’s “Live Through This” was released, and it changed everything. Patty Schemel and Courtney Love were a big deal for me and many of my friends who played in bands. This documentary is fucking important, especially for women. Haters gonna hate, but fuck those people. Can’t wait to see it.
