    If it was the timeslot not the host, then the Pat Sajak Show would still be on the air (you’re probably too young to remember when CBS tried to do late-night with Sajak BEFORE Dave).

    Young comics who could fill the shoes of Dave at 11:35 EST are few and far between. You can talk shit all you want but I bet it would be a LONG search and even then he (or she) probably wouldn’t meet or beat Dave’s current numbers.

    If Leno is so stale, why couldn’t Conan keep Jay’s numbers? The question nobody wants to answer. Once a big network player, now on basic cable. So much for the cool hipster demo (the same overrated demo that drove Scott Pilgrim to a box-office BOMB) WOOHOO

    It took Fallon a YEAR to shake off the ghost of Conan. Between you and me, it’s The Roots that save him, by the way (although he HAS risen to the occasion and is funny)

    I know you hipsters love to canonize Jon Stewart, but I seem to remember when HE had a syndie late-night talk show that fucking BOMBED, not to mention the one on MTV in the early 90s, which also BOMBED. Like Bill Maher, he was a mediocre comic until he latched on to the political shit, esp. in this bullshit right-wing Bush era that we’re STILL living in

    I like Stewart too, but if Stewart was forced to pull in real network (not cable) numbers, he’d be off the air in a week.

    You hipsters overestimate your demo. You watch TV online where you can’t be counted, steal/download everything that’s not nailed down, then your movies/music flop because you downloaded a bootleg and nobody paid for it. You elevate fringe people that nobody outside of L.A. likes like Sarah Silverman to star status, then she doesn’t break thru ’cause she’s too edgy. Then Nikki comes on here and declares another box office/TV tank.

    And the cycle continues

• Funny clip! I figured David stole a joke or two from a young comedian and after performing in the drunken state that he was in, since his jokes work better in that state, mustered up enough nerve to go get his joke or two back.
