Look up “bore” in the dictionary and you’ll see Oprah’s picture. New Age televangelist and huckster.
Funny headline, but Oprah should pay attention to Rupert Murdoch of late. When one becomes enormous (and I’m not talking about weight here), one tends to bump one’s head at the top and come down to earth a little. That hasn’t happened to Oprah, yet, but there are indications that it will. The public no longer loves her like they used to, and OWN has been bumping its head quite a lot lately, in these admittedly early stages.
Oprah came from nothing. She doesn’t need to be “brought down to Earth.” She’s failed in public a lot: her weight, Beloved, and the scam sham by James Frey are the most public examples.
I’m not so sure if “Empress” covers it. It lacks enough oomph. She should have a title that has words like “Mega” and “Ultra” and “Supreme” in it, and ends with “-ix”.
Bye – Bye – Oprah – the old queen is dead TIME FOR THE WORLD TO MOVE ON !!!
You don’t see Steve Jobs needing a superfluous “Chief Creative Officer” title on top of CEO. Jeez…
She can call herself Prime Minister of the World – the network is always going to be niche & mediocre.
I met oprah and she doesn’t watch television at all what makes people think she can run a network successfully welcome to the real world oprah!
Yes, a new job title for Oprah will solve everything wrong with OWN.
Titles are just titles. OWN will live or die based on content and subscribers. Oprah has an enormous ego but so does Rupert Murdoch, Martha Stewart and all those who own their empire. I hope OWN succeeds because there’s so much negativity already. Long Live The Media Empress!
That money and fame has gone to her fat head. Is there a more egotistical woman in the industry, present company excluded?
So glad The Big O moved to pay cable, because so many Americans can’t afford it anymore and don’t have to put up with this hack’s drivel daily. Out of sight, out of mind. And we can only hope that with the dismal failure of this teeny forgotten cable niche, Big O will also be out of money.
Oprah should have went out on top, and quietly moved on. With OWN, she has ruined her legacy with a boring and mediocre cable network. The one thing that OWN doesn’t have is Oprah. Without her on the air, most, if not all of those shows are cures for insomnia.
I guess they finally realized that Lisa Erspamer was in way over her head. Now they’ve brought in two new people that have no experience programming a network.
OWN: content is still king, find the content and you’ll find the audience.
None of these people have ever developed TV shows! – save for Oprah with respect to her talk show – and certainly not any reality shows or scripted shows. They hadn’t a clue what they were doing with that “big give” show they did – and they think they can now program a whole network without help from people who’ve done it before. Oprah has great instincts but she needs people who know how to execute and what works or doesn’t – or they’ll be learning from scratch while the clock is ticking – no matter what their titles are!
I’m only posting here to remind folks that Oprah’s a huge Tyler Perry fan. No surprises regarding her tastes in programming, quite frankly.
Rupert Murdoch should buy OWN and fire the pretentious, boring fatass right before he turns it into The Roadrunner Cartoon Channel.
People would actually watch that.
So happy for Sheri!!! She is such an asset to Oprah’s team & exemplifies grace under fire on Behind the Scenes. Oprah would have been stupid not to include her in her new LA empire. Cant wait to see what changes they will bring. I think it will take a couple of years but all of the naysayers will be in for a surprise from Team O.
OWN is circling the drain and this is their last-gasp effort to put the stopper in. She was either badly misled about the economics of starting a new cable channel that is 2freaking30 on my timewarner cable system and part of the “variety pack” which has very few channels I care about so I’m not even able to watch her to begin with… OR she and her peeps thought they would be the exception. No one is watching it. And no one is even paying attention to the promos on cnn or whatever. So no advertisers. No rev, no net. My bet is it’s killed by mid-2012 and she’ll head off to Bway or Hwd to try to become the award-winning actress she has said many times is her fervent desire.
Are you all bitter and jealous?
My brother worked at OWN before launch. The inside scoop is they need to get rid of Lisa Erspamer and her obnoxious unororganzed team. There’s your answer. If there is a bad show to make or purchase, They’ll find it.
Sheri Salata knows how to produce a great talk show. She has never even been in a TV show pitch meeting until last year. She has no business experience or real TV production and experience and her co president is a radio guy. This has been a disaster from day one and will continue to be a disaster as long as they focus on keeping Harpo people employed.
So sad to read these negative comments. It just shows additional synonyms for the words jealousy, envious, pathetic, negative, etc. Let her do whatever she wants, if things go sour with her network, it’s her problem, and our lives will continue as if nothing has happened!
Jeez, I thought everyone loved Oprah as much as I do! She’s a saint. Did you see her show where she gave her own money as rewards to people who gave information that led to the arrests of pedophiles? The Pope hasn’t even done that. She’s amazing in every way, and she has exceptional perspective, judgement, and wisdom. Every minute we have with her is a blessing. That said, she’s 57, and has worked full time for 50 years, and is tired. She deserves to pull back now. She’ll give us what she wants to, and it might not be as much as she has given in the past, but it will all be good.
