MSNBC today named Al Sharpton as host of PoliticsNation, a new hourlong program topped by the civil rights activist and minister that will air weeknights at 6 PM ET, kicking off the network’s evening schedule. MSNBC president Phil Griffin made the announcement about the show, on which Sharpton “will lead a lively and informed discussion of the top headlines, bringing viewers his take on events in his signature style.” It debuts Monday. The move to bring in Sharpton had been expected as he already was guest-hosting in the hour, filling the slot vacated last month when the network jettisoned Cenk Uygur after it “decided to make a change.” (Later, Uygur claimed he was told to “tone it down” and bring in more Republican guests, prompting him to walk away; at the TCAs, Griffin said he would welcome Uygur back.) MSNBC has been busy shoring up its lineup, inking a multi-year deal with Rachel Maddow and adding The Nation editor Chris Hayes as host of a weekend news block.

When I first saw this guy on MSNBC while I passing through a friend’s living room, I was come over with hysterical laughter.
Ain’t that America! You can tell by the comments on this article who is Black and who is white. IMHO Al Sharpton is one of America’s great Orator’s. He is wise and quite intelligent. He’s had missteps in his life like anyone else and although I do not watch MSNBC I may start watching now.

You are infatuated with race, fixated on race. Check out the last Presidential election. Obama received more than 90% of the black vote. Less than 10% of black voters voted for the white candidate. Here’s the 411:
1. There will always be the liberal and conservative media properties. So, everyone, get over it and leave that out of the discussion. It’s a given. Move on.
2. I’ve been in these network meetings where there are some really smart people and some complete idiots.
MSNBC has had an identity problem for years. They believed they were on the right track with Olberman, Maddow etc… They finally figured out personalities drive viewers AND they learned, but not fully, how to SHOWCASE those personalities. Showcase an issue to make it seem like the biggest thing of the day/week/year etc and then showcase the talent and–boom! People start to pay attention.
Hide a Ferrari under some scrub brush, bushes and a pile of dirt and not too many people are going to notice. Clear the brush, wash and polish the care, showcase it by putting it on a rotating pedestal and stick a pitchman (or beautiful woman next to it) and boom! People can’t HELP but notice.
FOX has done this to near perfection. Take right/left out of it, look clearly, and they figured it out. They are what they are and they know what they are and they know how to make you know what they are and what you are going to get. (full disclosure–I watch cnbc/bloomberg and use apps on my iPad for news, so I care little for FOX, MSNBC, CNN..etc)
Do not do yourself a disservice by taking the conversation down to conservative or liberal blather. Realize it is what it is and look behind the wizard’s curtain to see it’s all showcasing—all fire, smoke and a loud, amplified voice. And there are no ruby slippers to take you away from the madness.

He is awful on that show. Not because he’s liberal. Not because of his past digressions. But because he’s a bad host of the show. He is a “slow” talker. He may be very smart, but it takes him forever to get those thoughts out of his mouth. It’s almost painful to watch and wait for him to say what he’s thinking.
