EXCLUSIVE: Andre Braugher is in negotiations for a recurring role on NBC’s veteran procedural Law & Order: SVU. He will play an attorney for the underprivileged who may get close with Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). This marks Braugher’s most significant stint on a crime drama and a return to NBC after his Emmy-winning leading role on Homicide. Additionally, he guest starred in an episode of the mothership Law & Order series 15 years ago. Braugher, repped by WME and Principato-Young, last month received his second consecutive Emmy nomination for his role on TNT’s critically praised but recently canceled dramedy Men Of a Certain Age.

so what happens when he runs into Munch?
LOL, just what I was thinking. Can’t these people on SVU find other actors to do these things without bringing back actors from the other Law and Order shows?
I would like to see him reprise his role as the detective though.
Homicide wasn’t an L&O show. Munch crossed over on both. That’s about NBC.
Munch also crossed over on The X-Files too, in fact Munch crossed over on a bunch of shows.
And Homicide crossed over with St Elsewhere (and Chicago Hope). And, if Homicide & L&O are in the St Elsewhere universe, then so is the Bob Newhart Show (as well as Cheers and the White Shadow). The Bob Newhart show brings in Murphy Brown. Murphy Brown brings in Seinfeld, which brings in Mad About You, which brings in The Dick Van Dyke Show (and Friends), which brings in Make Room for Daddy (through a Buddy Sorel crossover), which brings in the Andy Griffith Show. So, I’m hoping for an Andy Taylor-Pembleton meeting.
@menofacertainrage – Very Good Point! Their crossover was SO good back in the day, and Munch often talks about Bolander and Meldrick – so it seems odd if they pretend they didn’t know each other, but I guess that’s the magic of TV. Diane Neal was on the show first as a killer that Stephanie March’s character convicted for killing a male escort, so…ya never know!
EXACTLY what the entire L&O franchise needs….Andre Braugher!!!!
First good move by Dick Wolf in YEARS!
Don’t get me wrong, seeing Braugher on anything is always a big plus, but if he’s going to appear on SVU, I would rather see him as Pembleton again.
I know the L&O shows often bring back guest actors to play different parts ( and that’s fine ), but here we’re talking about two characters who did a hundred eps together ( although it was on another show ).
Oh well, maybe he’ll grow a moustache or something…
Andre is what Picasso is to paintings – a master piece. I hope he wins his 2nd Emmy for Men of A Certain Age.
Not a L&O watcher here, but with Braugher on it, I’ll definitely check it out. LOVE to watch this man’s work, one of my favorite actors. Solid as a rock.
I agree! Anything Andre Braugher is in is must see TV for me. I usually just ‘watch’ L&O reruns while I multitask, but I’ll tune in and pay full attention for Braugher. Great move.
We want Pembleton! Give us Pembleton! This is the first good move by an L&O franchise in years and they’re already blowing it. He “may get close” to Benson? What does that even mean? Sometimes I wish SVU went through casts like flagship L&O, then these new additions would seems so pointless and desperate. We want Pembleton!
Yes, let’s Petition now…WE WANT PEMBLETON!!
And while you’re at it…bring back the underrated Sgt Kay Howard…aka Melissa Leo…that’s when I first fell in love…
Just bring back “Homicide”, best cop show ever!
I always get him and Robert Wisdom confused.
I confess I do not know the work of this actor. But the comments are highly favorable. Now I do not like him as a love interest for Olivia. I think Benson deserves a man better. She is so beautiful.
If Braugher’s there, so am I…………. Love the comments regarding Pembleton………..
PLEASE JUST GET CHRIS BACK! ALL THESE NEW PEOPLE COULD NEVER EVER FILL THE VOID LEFT BY HIM. TPTB HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEIR DOING, NEITHER DOES CHRIS MELONI (he thinks he’s going 2 b a big movie star, never) CHRIS IS UP IN AGE.
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!__It will, however, be interesting to see how he fairs as an attorney. I’m sure he’ll be excellent!!!!
