Cult BBC comedy series Absolutely Fabulous will return with three new specials, co-produced by BBC America and Logo. The two U.S. networks have come on board the specials, currently in production in West London, which feature the original cast led by its two stars, Ab Fab creator Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, who reprise their roles as the booze-loving Edina Monsoon and her friend Patsy Stone, respectively. “We are thrilled to be able to celebrate our 20th birthday with all of the original cast,” Saunders said. “We hope that, like a good bottle of champagne, we have grown better with age but lost none of our sparkle. We fully intend to party like it’s 1991.” The original Absolutely Fabulous series has been a key part of BBC America’s lineup over the years. Logo began airing the first five seasons in April 2011. Absolutely Fabulous is a BBC Comedy production, and has been written by Saunders, directed by Mandy Fletcher and produced by Justin Davies. Executive producer is Jon Plowman.

Seasons 4 and 5, along with the specials, showed a decline in quality. There was some good stuff in there, but you could feel that the chemistry had faded a bit by 2002 and 2004.
I hope they’ve got some really neat tricks up their sleeve with the new specials, otherwise it’s going to look really, really lame having two senior citizens acting the exact same way they used to act when they were teens.
Best news I’ve heard in days.
As far as having two senior citizens act the way there were when they were teens, that is ABFAB! Can’t wait for these, it’s the funniest show since Fawlty Towers.
I thought some of S4 and S5 was pretty good. It did take a few shows to get back into the groove but S5 was funny.
The problem with this show now is that in 1991 this was a joke and we loved their extremes but also didn’t ever want to be them. In 2011 this is still played for a joke, but the reality TV landscape is filled with people who are more shocking than Patsy and Edina.
What a great way to start a Monday. Fab news.
Some of those shows were great, very funny. but like all shows there were some bummers. I’m eagerly looking forward to this
Love them. Hope they stay as funny.
Fabulous sweetie!
Great news, this is one of the few shows where the re-runs are just as funny the second time around. The whole cast is back and I can hardly wait for Edina and Patsy Stone.
BBC America hardly shows anything British anymore, and it is getting to be less and less everyday. Star trek NG, BG – NOT British! completely annoying! Why not just put the actual BBC on cable here?
