BREAKING: Brad Pitt will star in the New Regency action movie The Gray Man. James Gray was set in January to direct the film, an adaptation of Mark Greaney’s thriller novel. I’d heard Pitt’s name back then, but the studio and actors reps denied the Moneyball star was doing it at the time. The question has always been timing, because Pitt and partner Angelina Jolie don’t work at the same time. They usually rotate. Jolie directed In the Land of Blood and Honey, and now Pitt is starring in World War Z. Jolie has been seriously eyeing the Disney film Maleficent, but that picture needs a director. If she took her turn, then the timing of The Gray Man gets thrown off. If Pitt makes two movies in a row, he’ll finish World War Z in late fall and The Gray Man will begin production in January or February. That’s how it’s looking now, because I’m told that Pitt has been locked down for that first-quarter 2012 slot.
Script for The Gray Man was written by Adam Cozad, who also scripted the Jack Ryan franchise reboot for Paramount with Chris Pine and director Jack Bender. Targeted by a powerful multinational corporation, a former CIA operative-turned-ultimate assassin must fight his way across Europe and past special forces teams from around the world in order to save the life of his handler and the handler’s family. New Regency’s Navid McIlhargey is steering the film and Shine Pictures’ Stephen Garrett is producing. Pitt’s Plan B partner Dede Gardner has also come aboard to produce.

Are they really going with that title? Because there is already a movie called “The Gray Man” about serial killer Albert Fish.
It is the name of the book!
CJS, it is the name of the book and the series, so I think so!
Um, who? What?
Yeah nobody cares about that movie.
Brad Pitt, the best actor ever !
I like Brad Pitt, don’t get me wrong. But “the best actor ever!” — what are you — like twelve?
Brad is making 2 in a row right now in 2011, he made Cogan’s Trade earlier this year, now he is making WWZ. Angelina made her film last year in the fall 2010 in Hungary. This film sounds interesting.
wow that must be a really old photo. I’ve never liked his acting. I think he’s highly overrated. JMO.
I think you are highly right on…
Hmm, ironic. I think he is vastly underrated just like Paul Newman was for many years. And like Newman he is lately getting the recognition he deserves.
Actually, this will be Brad’s 3rd movie in a row (Deadline forgot Cogan’s Trade was filmed right before WWZ). He’s evolved to become a great actor (TCCBB, and Tree of Life) and has picked some interesting projects since he’s been with Angelina Would love to see Angelina star in more roles (actually, I would be awesome for them to star in one more film together before their career run ends), but she did say in her recent interview with Financial Times, that acting is less important in her priorities now and she’s slowing down. Family, humanitarian goals, and other forms of artistic expression (ie… writing, directing) seem to be more her focus now. Brad however, is still actively taking on roles and he’s got interesting mix of movies coming out soon. They are so talented and have so much to offer. Wish them the best!
What about CLEOPATRA? Any news on when that films? It’s not fair that Pitt should shoot 3-4 projects in a row before she does another one!
@jj, what is unfair about Brad working if that is what he and Angelina have decided to do at this time? She is in demand, she is offered roles and she has turned them down. Someone has to be working to feed those 6 little kids they have. Angelina has not even officially signed on to the Cleopatra film, she is probably waiting to see what the shooting script will be like. When she is ready to work she will. In the meantime Brad is choosing some great roles in films that I am looking forward to seeing.
I frickin’ LOVE this movie! I’ve seen all 219 versions of it over the last decade and a half and it NEVER GETS OLD! It’s all about an elite highly-trained indestructible super-dude (or dudette) who throw kicks and snap necks and fights off whole armies single-handedly after finding out he’s been betrayed by his own Government!
Usually he’s a special ops type — a former Navy Seal or what not (“the best of the best”) — and his nemesis who knew him years earlier and has a grudging respect for him gets to say things to his evil boss about him like, “With all due respect, sir, you don’t know Matt Bishop. The man’s a one-man army… blah blah blah…”
OMG this is a GREAT movie and I can’t wait to see the Pitt version!
Angelina is NO pushover..if he’s doing more projects than her, trust me, she co-signed it.
Btw, Zoe Saldana should be Cleopatra..not Angie.
Then you will need to finance Cleopatra because I don’t think so Sony and Scott Rudin agree with you. Angelina was born to play Cleopatra. She will own that part.
