EXCLUSIVE: After dividing her time between careers as a TV/feature writer and as a novelist for the past several years, Caprice Crane will merge the two with a gig to adapt her first novel into a TV series. NBC has put in development a half-hour comedy based on Crane’s book Stupid and Contagious, a romantic comedy whose title is taken from the Nirvana anthem Smells Like Teen Spirit.
It centers on Heaven and Brady, two hate-at-first-sight neighbors navigating their way through life and love in their twenties. Crane, whose previous series writing credits include the CW’s 90210 and Melrose Place, will pen the script. Additionally, Crane has closed a deal to write her debut young-adult novel How To Be a Hater for publisher Fiewel and Friends. It is described as Mean Girls meets Revenge of the Nerds with a comic book twist. Crane, who recently released her fourth novel, With a Little Luck, also co-wrote this year’s big-screen romantic comedy Love, Wedding, Marriage. She recently signed with Paradigm and is managed by Brillstein Entertainment.

My goodfriend, CC, just scored a deal!!! KICK SOME ASS, GF!!! GIRLFRIENDS UNITE!!!
More white girls making deals…
I just finished reading all of Caprice’s books and Stupid and Contagious will make an amazing sitcom. I’d totally watch it. Congrats Caprice!
Another deal for a white chick with a hackneyed “seen it” concept. Great.
Awesome Caprice! You are THE MAN! Well, if you were a man you’d be THE MAN.
Caprice is the best, since the moment I met her at NYU!! Congrats
This news made my day. So deserving. Caprice is such a talent.
I am so happy for you!!! You deserve all the best!!!
Uhmmm this woman is a tyrant. If she wants this to succeed hopefully she is willing to make a 360 turn around!
Uhmmm… okay, I’ll get this one.
360 is a full circle and gets her back to where she is right now.
You mean 180.
Cheers!

COMPLETELY AGREE. She is in need of a serious attitude adjustment.
Here Mom is Ginger from Gilligan’s Island.
Wow, what useful information!
Can’t wait to see this… Caprice is the queen of all written media! Congrats!
Caprice this is wonderful and an important event in your career. All of at Trident Media Group are delighted for you.

This is SUCH great news for NBC and anyone with a sense of humor! Caprice is a true talent and this is the only book I have ever read and re-read repeatedly wishing it would either be a movie or a TV show. So excited!
This girl is hysterical – I found her on twitter and have already read 2 of her books… LOVE them can’t wait to watch!
Taught her at NYU. She was lazy and an airhead and never turned in one assignment the entire semester. When I tried to flunk her, the head of the program stepped in and made me change her grade to a C. I guess she took that one quality and spun it into gold.
Is that true?
That’s funny, Kieran because I also taught her at NYU and she was one of the funniest, most talented and most committed students I had. It’s sad when bitter people can’t be happy when former students succeed. I take pride in this success and hope that I contributed to it in some way.
Maybe if she wasn’t so high on herself other people would be happy for her success. She treats assistants like crap and is very difficult to deal with. If she can fix her attitude more people would be happy for her.
Who is this girl? Does she really have a bad attitude? I tried to read that book. I didn’t get it.
Hmmm. What are the odds that two of Caprice’s professors would be reading this at the same time? I have a feeling one of them is Caprice.
Cheers on your new show, CC. I’m sure you will respond shortly!

Five people said very negative things,so I would think their suggestions aren’t completely unfounded. I beleive the NYU story. Sounds about right.
Isn’t evrybody who gets a TV Deal with NBC a tyrant or A hole?
Everyone go read LOVE, WEDDING, MARRIAGE and you’ll really start to question her talent. That script is PAINFUL just like dealing w/ Caprice.
Here’s a girl who has worked hard and been quite prolific. it’s about time she gets recognized. There sure are a lot of bitter people out there. Nothing exposes miserable people like someone else’s success.
Funny you mention that script. Caprice was rewritten by someone related to the producer of that movie. If you didn’t like the script – blame the nepotism that happened. Not the original writer.
This is like the best news ever. I’ve had a girl-crush on Caprice ever since I started reading her tweets, which led me to her books which don’t come out fast enough!!! SO EXCITED!!!
Great news. Loved this book and wanted to do something with it a couple years ago. Cheers!
