EXCLUSIVE: After testing the TV waters last season, feature producer Dan Lin is putting down small-screen roots, forming a television division of his company Lin Pictures and signing an overall deal with Warner Bros Television. Veteran TV development executive/producer Jennifer Gwartz has been tapped to run the new division, which is looking to develop drama and comedy projects with aspirational, uplifting stories that are often associated with Lin-produced features. Additionally, Gwartz, who also has feature background having worked on such movies as Scream, Copland, Lethal Weapon 4 and The Matrix, will work closely Lin’s feature development team.
Last season was Lin’s first in television. Through a first-look deal with Warner Bros TV, an extension to his his Warner Bros production deal on the feature side, he sold three projects: Poe, written by Chris Hollier, and Teach, written by Rina Mimoun, to ABC; and Mavericks, written by Gary Scott Thompson, to Fox. One of them, Poe, went to pilot. Gwartz is probably best known for her frequent collaborations with writer-producer Rob Thomas, most recently serving as executive producer on his Fox/WBTV comedy pilot Little In Common, which continues to be in strong contention for a midseason pickup. She previously served as executive producer/co-executive producer on Thomas’ series Party Down, Cupid and Veronica Mars. Gwartz helped developed Veronica Mars while she and Danielle Stokdyk headed up the TV division of Joel Silver’s company, which also is based at WBTV. Gwartz and Stokdyk, who began working together in 1999, co-running Columbia TriStar TV’s drama department, also did a stint as a producing duo based at Universal TV. Gwartz, who started her TV career in 1998 as an executive in ABC’s drama department, recently served as SVP scripted development at Vin Di Bona and Bruce Gersh’s FishBowl. Since his company’s inception in 2008, Lin has produced films that have grossed over $975M worldwide. WME-repped Lin is currently in post-production on Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and in pre-production on The Gangster Squad. His slate of films in development include The Lego Movie, directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord; Yucatan, starring Robert Downey Jr; and Moses.

Does Dan Lin still pay Mikkel ‘the cult’ Bondesen to be his ‘life coach’? Hahahaha.
If so, where do I sign up?
POE was the WORST pilot of last year. Awful script and even dumber pilot. Why would they reward him like this?
Lemme get this straight… Dan Lin is producing “The Lego Movie”?
Proof positive that Hollywood has absolutely no intention of raising itself out of the cultural gutter anytime soon.
The lego movie is about the limits of imagination and the soul of creativity itself! not exactly shallow/commercial garbage..
To “a person”:
if that was a joke, kudos….as that’s pretty damn funny.
If it wasn’t a joke, please reconsider your job as manager or publicist to the writers of the Lego movie.
actually, that lego script is pretty freaking great. for a movie based on a toy (terrible idea) it’s actually really funny and weirdly lofty about the powers of creativity etc etc, like “a person” says. do yourself a favor and read that script before knocking it.
Jen Gwartz is incredibly smart and has solid instincts. I interned for her over 10 years ago when she ran Col Tri-Star TV Development, and she was incredibly ballsy yet sweet and gave me my first coverage I ever did. I wish her thebest of luck and Dan Lin is very lucky to have her!
LOVE Jen Gwartz. Smart and courteous.
I’ve developed with Jen Gwartz and I can’t say enough good things about her. She has great taste and knows how to get the best work out of her writers. With Jen at the helm, Lin TV is a legit player right out of the gates.
Dan scored in hiring Jen Gwartz – she is a smart, pragmatic executive, with strong creative instincts. WINNING COMBO I can’t wait to see what they will do!
Dan’s a nice guy. Made some time for me from a cold e-mail I sent a few years back when I was a lowly assistant at Endeavor and took some time out of his busy schedule just to “chat” a little for some advice. Last year took a submission from me and responded within a week. The man’s good in my book. Wish him continued success.
I’m a big fan of Dan Lin and I wish him well with this.
Dan’s one of the best guys in town. As smart as he is nice as he is successful. Don’t know Jen but have heard good things and the fact that she convinced Rob Thomas to partner with Vin di Bona on a scripted show last season makes her either a genius or a hypnotist or maybe just truly talented. Now that she’s not hobbled by a company no one wants to work with, I can only imagine what great things she’ll do…
