EXCLUSIVE: Eric Stoltz has been tapped as the lead of Lifetime’s dramedy pilot Modern Love, from Sony Pictures TV. Created and executive produced by Sex and the City alumna Jenny Bicks, the project weaves actual stories from New York Times columns to explore the state of modern relationships. It follows newspaper science editor Simon McElvane (Stoltz) as he faces a deteriorating marriage, the ramifications of potentially starting over and balancing his relationship with his adopted 15-year-old daughter. Unexpectedly handed the job of editor of the newspaper’s Modern Love column, Simon discovers he has a lot to learn about life and love. The project, which was originally set up at HBO, is executive produced by Bicks, Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun, Gene Stein and Alan Poul. Poul is set to direct the pilot, which will begin filming shortly. Stoltz most recently starred on the Syfy series Caprica.

The original Marty McFly
The original Rocky Dennis
The original.
He sucked as Marty McFly. Best recasting decision in the history of movies. Ever.
What does that have to do with this project? Stoltz is a fine actor with a great catalog of memorable performances in his career. So he was miscast. Happens all the time.
Oh no! I hope he doesn’t stop directing GLEE. He directed my favorite ones last season.
Even HE thought he sucked as Marty McFly. But still like the guy. Hope the project goes well. Have always enjoyed his work.
He was fucking awesome as Daniel Greystone in Caprica. Of course, the writers totally fucked that show by making a science fiction show about the rise of genocide committing robots into a fucking show about terrorism and religious strife. God i fucking hate the sci fi channel. ROCK ON ERIC STOLTZ
This sounds like Sex and the City with a guy. The only way this could be interesting is if he started dating Mr. Big. Of course, this is Lifetime and their viewers tend to accept mediocre television.
Hey Jimbo, why don’t you read the script before you opine–it’s fucking awesome and from what I hear in casting circles it’s attracting some amazing talent despite that it’s on Lifetime, which says a lot..
Amazing talent such as…..?
Is the word “Modern” now what the word “Project” was in the 90′s?
How was this originally at HBO?
Bicks is overrated, made worse by her always strutting around as if she’s God’s gift. Larry David got it right.
Oh Heh Heh, if you but only had one-tenth of her career, talent and humility…Take your sour grapes elsewhere and quit polluting Deadline.
Eric Stoltz is awesome. He is and always will be the king of 90′s indie cinema. Also, he seems to never age…
Heh – Jenny Bicks is a sweetheart, you obviously have never been around the woman for 5 minutes. Let go of the hate
No matter how talented the cast is, once the fans admit to liking it lifetime will cancel it and it will be DOA. Sorry Eric, I hope you have a backup plan other than a lifetime series.
