EXCLUSIVE: I’m hearing that George Clooney is in the process of withdrawing as the star of Steven Soderbergh’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Still trying to get a clear sense of the reason for the exit of Clooney, who is Soderbergh’s former partner and did the Ocean’s Eleven films and Out of Sight with the director. I’m told that Warner Bros intends to stay on track for a February 2012 start for the movie, which is based on the 1960s light spy drama starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum. Soderbergh is putting U.N.C.L.E. together as he prepares for the release of Warners’ Contagion, which stars Matt Damon and is being released Sept. 9.

Zachary Levi would be perfect. He has the Solo qualities that would fit nicely with the character.
i like george clooney.however at this stage of his carear he is too old to play napolean solo.he would have been perfect between 1996 and 2000.
I just foumd an article from ’07 talking about gordon levitt, ryan gosling, and true bloods alexander skarsgaard being yop contenders for the lead. I could never see clooney in the role. Personally think they should dump the whole idea. For the record Jensen Ackles would be awesome in the role. So tired of remakes.
Was a big fan of UNCLE when it came out 1964 when I was 11 now 57. I always wondered why a movie was not made earlier (before I grew to old to play the part of course). This movie needs a better than good pairing for Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin. Perfect casting shoud be Jon Hamm and Alexander Skarsgard …..period.
If this is going to be Sonderburgs ‘swan song’, it had better be good!?, Clooney was to old, to established and to arrogant for the role. The project is treading on deadly water as we all know the show is so iconic, it may be left best alone…
