In the Weinstein Co’s first major move in scripted television since launching a TV division in January and tapping Meryl Poster to run it, the company is finalizing a deal with ABC for a TV version of The Nanny Diaries to be written by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive produced by Ryan Seacrest. This marks the first foray into scripted TV for reality mogul Seacrest, who signaled earlier this year his intention to expand into comedy and drama. Seacrest is executive producing the hourlong project with Harvey Weinstein and Sherman-Palladino.
The Nanny Diaries, which will be laid off at ABC Studios, will be based on the 2002 bestselling book by former Manhattan nannies Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus, which the Weinstein Co. turned into a feature in 2007 with Scarlett Johansson, Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti starring. It is a satiric look at upper-class Manhattan society through the eyes of the nannies who work for them. The Nanny Diaries was one of the first scripted projects the Weinstein Co put in development when its TV arc was launched, along with a TV adaptation of another book, crime novel The Mad Ones. For Seacrest, who has been involved in The Nanny Diaries since the get-go, this was one of the first three scripted series put in development at his Ryan Seacrest Prods. Sherman-Palladino most recently wrote and executive produced a 2010 CW drama pilot set in Wyoming, which didn’t go to series.

Hey Ryan,
You are a very smart man with lots of projects all over the map, but in this case…you may have made a big mistake….welcome to Harvey’s world.
Amy Sherman-Palladino without a hat?! NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE.
Im pretty sure Harvey is familiar with berating both the help and NYU students. It’s a fine line between assistants and the college student nannies in manhattan. Sounds like the perfect TV project for his expertise.
If you fail at something, keep doing it differently.
Er, are you implying that just because it flopped at the box office it won’t work as a series? Because that would like, be logical or something, and as you know networks run on fairy dust and rainbows filled with hope.
SEACREST ALONG WITH HIS CEO MR. ADAM SHER ARE #UTILIZING TEAMWORK TO MAKE THE DREAMWORK @ RYAN SEACREST PRODUCTIONS THEY DESERVE ALL OF THEIR SUCCESS & MORE THEY WORK AROUND THE CLOCK
Nikki and the DH team should not accept posts in all caps.
It doesn’t make the post anything other than obnoxious.
No need to yell.
Amy Sherman Palladino is a great writer. Just look at the Gilmore Girls.
Gross.
AMy Sherman Palladino is GENIUS and great to work for!!!Love Love Love her!!! You go, Amy, and keep the suits away from your scripts!!!!
Well, I’ve read that Paul Lee is nice to work for. Plus, wasn’t he the one responsible for acquiring the reruns of the Gilmore Girls for ABC Family? At least he recognizes good talent.
So,maybe Lee will let Sherman Palladino do an interesting show.
Who on earth are you?
Did Dan write this? I’m not sure anyone else enjoyed working for ASP ever.
Megan C you are out of your gourd.
yeah, because in today’s economic climate, we all want to curl up in front of our tv’s and watch rich pigs act like narcissistic idiots.
Amy is a brilliant writer and director, and deserves every great thing coming her way. Can’t wait to watch this show.
