Mildred Pierce executive producer and director Todd Haynes has re-teamed with the HBO miniseries’ executive producers John Wells and Christine Vachon for another period HBO project — drama series Dope. Just like Mildred Pierce, which starred Oscar winner Kate Winslet, an A-list feature actress, Julianne Moore, is circling Dope, which is based on Sara Gran’s novel. Haynes would potentially direct the project, now in development, from a script by Gran who adapted her book.
Dope takes place in New York around 1950 and centers on a woman who re-enters her life after being away at the farm to treat her heroin addiction and becomes a private eye. Dope would extend Moore’s relationship with HBO. She stars in the pay-cable network’s upcoming film about the 2008 presidential election, Game Change, portraying former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. The Depression-era Mildred Pierce is the most nominated program at the upcoming 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards with 21 noms, including one in the newly consolidated best movie/miniseries category.

Mildred Pierce was very interesting so, Im sure this show will be good.
Mildred Pierce was very boring in my opinion. Pretty to look at but boring. My hopes are higher for this one. Hope Haynes goes more substance than style this time around.
this…is gonna rule.
surprised julianne is doing tv though
She did a season-long guest arc on 30 ROCK. The old-school stigma that film > TV is dying and she recognizes that. Other recent HBO feature Diane Keaton, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Bacon, etc…
Awesome news. Julianne Moore gave a couple of her best performances in Todd Haynes films – FAR FROM HEAVEN and SAFE. She’s a top notch actress, he’s a top notch director, and together they’re a top notch pairing. Can totally see her as a Private Eye.
To Sam about – this ain’t TV, it’s HBO! Big difference.
Top notch, so nice to know someone else has seen “Safe.” It’s a very powerful film far ahead of its time I think. Not only did Julianne provide one of her best performances EVER, I actually know people who are suffering from the same illness. I recommend it all the time.
Mildred Pierce was ok . It should have just been a movie . Most people I know saw the first part and that was it . It was too slow moving and needed editing badly
I agree. I was so psyched to see it, all that great talent. But god was it boring.
Dope sounds DOPE!
Agreed. Very slow. I gave up on it. Surprised by all the Emmy nom nods.
Sounds like all of you birds need to stick to shoot ‘em ups to not go out of your depth.
I don’t come to deadline for “…may star” headlines. Sheesh.
Ms Moore, if you are reading this and considering taking part, please say yes.
“She stars in the pay-cable network’s upcoming film about the 2008 presidential election, Game Change, portraying former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.”
Why there cant be any political connections between a movie being released right before the 2012 elections that slanders a popular figure who may or may not be a candidate. I see Hollywood is remaining non partisan. /sarc
