Universal Pictures and Working Title are out with a new trailer for Johnny English Reborn, the fumbling spy character played by Rowan Atkinson. Rosamund Pike and Dominic West also star. The film will be released Oct. 28. Why’s the studio making another installment of this franchise? Though Atkinson’s little known in the U.S., the 2003 original grossed $161 million worldwide, $132 million of it from overseas. Oliver Parker directed this one.

Hope this works for Universal – they’re going to need every cent after Battleshit.
I want BEAN 3! A direct sequel to the first movie this time, with all the characters from the first film.
Let’s hope this plays abroad, cause it sure ain’t going to play well here. I didn’t laugh once – all the jokes fell flat. Talk about a has-been.
Gillian Anderson!
Be still my heart.
“I can’t wait to see that movie, it looks hilarious! ! !” – No one
They should have set this film in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas and included several famous American actors.
I hope Rowan Atkinson does more U.S. movies from now on.
Funny. Like what the Get Smart remake should have have been.
Uh, Avery? Get Smart was hilarious. This JE trailer? Not so much.
It is a solitary source of American pride that we don’t find any of this remotely funny.
Gillian Anderson is in it! I’m there.
what is Universal thinking? this doesn’t look cheap…
one of the worst looking things the UK has ever exported
I found this trailer very funny. Of course I love Rowan Atkinson. That combined with Gillian Anderson will make this a must see for me.
Saw the trailer – laughed out loud, as did most in the auditorium. Do not overestimate the general audience, o Arrogant Hollywood Types.
Love Rowan Atkinson, but damn this looks like a flop.
Fixed your headline…
Trailer: ‘Johnny English Reborn’
Rowan Atkinson is, of course, MR BEAN. Hardly little known.
I’m looking forward to it. The first film was very funny. I’m much more excited for another Johnny English than the prospect of (yet) another Austin Powers or another Get Smart. Johnny English (1) was a better spy spoof than any of those. (Though the best spy spoofs out there are the two recent French OSS 117 movies.) I love the chair gag in the conference room in this trailer – except it was funnier in the international version without that “comedy” sound effect that they seem to think American audiences require.
Rowan Atkinson may not be a “big” name in America, but is well know to Comedy Buffs thanks to Mr.Bean and Blackader – which still air on PBS stations on a regular basis.
The funny thing is, one of his first film appearances seen in America was a supporting role in NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN, the McCory/Connery James Bond film in 1983!
I think this trailer could have used more voice-over. Really. I mean, I wasn’t explained enough about the film through it.
“She’s my mother!” — straight lift from Austin Powers #1. I love Atkinson but this looks lame, derivative, awful.
With a film like this, audience comes in with low expectations and is pleasantly surprised by more than a few mild laughs. It’s a non-animated or CGI engorged film that parents can take their pre-teen kids to see. That fact alone gives it some traction. It will do just fine in America, and even better in Europe.
I enjoy Rowan in other roles, but never did see the humour in Johnny English (or the Bean movie). I know he is loved in the UK and many other places, but his particular brand of humour doesn’t seem to play well in the US.
Maybe this should be released here on direct-to-DVD or on cable/satellite movie channels.
It seems that Rowan Atkinson movies are received better in Canada than in the USA. I dont know why but I think us Canadians are closer to the British style of humour. The trailer for this movie looks hilarious.
