Screen Gems has released a trailer for the fourth installment of its Underworld series. In Underworld: Awakening, Kate Beckinsale is back as the butt-kicking vampire, and this time she does it in 3D. The last installment, 2009′s Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, grossed $91 million worldwide. That was about $20 million less than the previous installment. Will the 3D spike a bigger gross because of the higher ticket price? The film opens in January.

Anyone know kate’s deal on these films?
Half the scenes looked like a video game….not just the staging
but the characters actually seemed to look ‘rendered’ instead of like real people….
almost motion capture….felt artificial…..
strange
Fuck Hollywood seriously…..fuck Hollywood.
When are the suits going to realize that American audiences aren’t going for 3D? Sure, the ding-dongs in other countries seems to be drinking the 3D Kool-Aid, but on U.S. turf 3D is a dud.
when are u going to realize theyre never going to realize that so stfu and stop whining about it
“Ding-dongs”? Next time you’re abroad and a foreigner is rude to you, it’s not them it’s you.
Quite a few movies lately I’d go to see if only they weren’t screening in 3D-only. Ticket prices are too high.
The last Underworld made less than the one before it because Kate Beckinsale was not in it (it was a prequel).
3rd one actually made more than the 2nd……
Where did you get the data?
Purely as a moviegoer, I like this trailer. Yes, the production values could be higher, not to mention the stunts. But next to Sigourney Weaver and maybe Milla Jovovich, Kate Beckinsale is one heroine who I love to watch kick butts. Thankfully they brought her back after the horrible casting in the 3rd movie, Rhona Mitra, I think.
I love Kate Beckinsale and the first “Underworld”, but she is better than this. You know she is just *praying* one of the other two K(C)ates (Winslet/Blanchett) slips on the ice or something so she can get just a taste of their prestiege flicks. Hope they gave this Kate a decent payday; doing karate on rubber werewolves is tedious after a while.
I’m sick to death of blue filters in these generic action movies. When will cinematographers get a little creative with lighting?
If everyone is so concerned about how the high price of 3D tickets will “spike” the rankings of new movies, why don’t the media outlets start reporting on new releases based on number of tickets sold?
In fact, do two weekly lists: Box Office $ gross and Number of tickets.
That would be amusing to see. At least for me. Perhaps the studios wouldn’t enjoy seeing it as much.
Kate hasn’t made an interesting film since The Last Days of Disco. She must be sub-literate to have even picked some of the scripts she’s done. I suspect for these underworld movies she gets 8m and change.
You make it sound like she passed on an amazing career to do these genre films. Kate is nearly 40 and has never had a starring role in a great film. LDOD was an ensemble film which Cloe Sevigny was more the star of. Kate hit the goldmine when she got the Underworld franchise. She is married to the director of Underworld, and he’s directed or produced all of them, plus she’s starred in most of them (the couple also dir/star in Van Helsing). Her keeping the franchise going is the family business. It’s exactly like Mila Jovovich and P.W.S. Anderson keeping the Resident Evil franchise going (There is already RE 5 in preproduction, for the same reason that Kate would be dumb to pass on Underworld 5). Fast Five shows how the original stars can keep a franchise on life support way past the usual pair of cash in sequels (Blu-Ray Box set $$, anyone). Kate might be “sub-literate” but her math is excellent.
Stephen Sommers directed VAN HELSING, not Kate’s husband Len Wiseman.
I met her briefly once and she seemed pretty sharp, though that was only a first impression. She sure as hell is a lot richer than me so she must be doing something right. Or I’m doing something wrong.
This looks god awful.
It is sad that Kate was once an up and coming Brit actress, taking roles in “prestige” movies. Surely she’s made her money but her reputation and overall filmography since she went “Hollywood” are almost like a sad waste compared to her ability and that of Kate Winslet and others.
This film will do nothing for her career, but I’m guessing she’s just in it for the money, which is how it’s been now for a long time with her.
What prestige roles? What reputation? She did some Brit TV movies and had a pretty girl role in a Branagh Shakespeare film. Then she came out to hollywood and got some good movies but was billed 2nd under Uma Thurman, Claire Danes, and Frances McDormand. Then Underworld came along and made her a star of genre movies. For a pretty face with an English accent but not much charisma or wit (she is no Kate Winslet), Kate has been very lucky in Hollywood. How many 40-something actresses would like to be “in it for the money”.
nicely said andrew.
keep posting man we need more people with sense like you dropping knowledge.
Underworld: The Matrix Edition.
I really liked the 2nd movie. Michael Sheen was unexpectedly sexy & powerful. Really not interested if he’s not in the 3rd.
Except Michael Sheen was in the first AND third one.. I don’t count the flashback (from the first BTW) as an appearance.
why didn’t they hire kate b to be an angel in (the soon to be cancelled) Charlie’s Angels?
that show looks like a promo for massengill. I think one of them is even called eve summers.
“Where’s Michael?” indeed. Michael Sheen.
such a rip off of trinity. i’m sorry, but carrie anne moss did it SO much better.
Kate was terrific in Rod Lurie’s “Nothing But the Truth,” which unfortunately lost its distribution avenue when the production company folded. The movie is great and truly deserved a better fate. That totally changed my perception of what she could do and where she was headed in her career. Sadly, though, between the new “Underworld” and “Total Recall” films, it feels like she’s taking a step backwards.
First: Kate doesn’t look one bit 40
and second she’s a graduate of Oxford University….
