After months of speculation, veteran CBS/CBS TV Studios executive Bela Bajaria has closed a deal to join NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt’s new executive team as EVP of Universal Media Studios. She will run NBC’s production arm, accelerating its re-establishment as a stand-alone entity after it was folded into the NBC network three years ago. Bajaria will take up her post in mid-August, reporting to Greenblatt. “I am delighted that we have lured an executive of Bela’s breadth and experience to run UMS with me,” Greenblatt said. “I worked with her in several capacities — most notably, she was my network executive when I produced the Elvis miniseries for CBS — and I’ve always admired her creative instincts, her unbridled enthusiasm, and her skills as both a buyer and a seller. She is the breath of fresh air we need as we start to reorganize UMS into a studio that will continue to produce series for NBC as well as the other networks.” Bajaria is the second CBS/Showtime executive to join Greenblatt at NBC since his no-poaching clause following his July 2010 exit from Showtime expired. Last week, longtime Showtime PR chief Richard Licata took over the same post at NBC.
Bajaria currently serves as SVP Cable Programming for CBS TV Studios, and SVP of Movies and Miniseries for the CBS network. She has been running CBS TV Studios’ cable division since its creation four years ago, shepherding a number of projects, including the A&E series The Cleaner and Common Law, which was recently picked up to series by USA. She also has developed several projects for Showtime, working closely with Greenblatt while he ran the pay cable network. Bajaria’s current slate includes two projects for Showtime: a docu-comedy from Glenn Gordon Caron and Andrew Gurland and one-hour drama Panic Boys, written by Roberto Benabib and starring Anthony Edwards and Mark Ruffalo. Bajaria has run CBS’ longform division for the past 10 years, including oversight of the long-running Hallmark Hall of Fame franchise.

I’ve known Bela for several years now, she is one of the best people in the business and a perfect fit for this job. Congrats Bela!
Couldn’t happen to a better, under-the-radar executive. So many studios missed the opportunity to acquire a smart executive over the years. Good move, Greenblatt.
A class act. Well done.
WTF?!
Is she always this beautiful or is this an old pic?
Pic’s about six or seven years old. She still looks great, though.
such a great hire for Greenblatt. Bela is extremely talented and hardworking.
good for nbc–bela is great with writers, story and the community–she has been very underutilized at cbs the last few years…
Wow..no “Toldja”???????
If anyone believes Jen Salke isn’t running the studio, they don’t understand the business.
oy, she is the worst. how do some people fail upward so easily?
don’t know bela but based on reading every other comment my best guess is you’re the dwad that trolls these boards to post negative comments in the hopes of actually having something to do for the day – seriously getting tired of you folk.
It’s not simply failing up. It’s a bit more like “Being There.” Stunningly, she has gotten by for years at CBS on typical ‘development speak’ and political maneuvering. Savvy politically yes. But smart? She’s never had an original thought in her head nor can she construct an intelligent sentence. It’s a joke that she’s gotten so far on so little.
That would mean all of successful studio heads who continue to re-up her contracts fall for her “development speak?” Hardly. Me thinks you are a tool who competed with Bela and lost…or did she not buy what you were selling? I had a congratulatory lunch with Ms. Bajaria and none of what you’ve described is true..Mr. Anonymous…
Sometimes They Get IT Right. Bela, it’s a Great Move and You Deserve
The Best. You earned everything and proved them up.You made Greenblatt Look and Feel like working Icon. Congrats,Bela. Take a Bow on The RED CARPET.
Sincerely,
Doc Joseph P. Sinda
Well deserved.
is CBS/Showtime at all concerned that they are losing these high ranking execs to NBC? Who’s out the door next?
Not only is Bela one of the best in the industry–she is smoking hot. Doesn’t hurt to have beauty and brains around the table.
I worked with Bela for a number of years at CBS. She knows how to hire the right creative people and when she likes you, you’re golden. She can be very funny too. Congrats Bela!!
I had the pleasure to meet Bela several years ago and must say that she is truly impressive… extremely intelligent, creative, witty, with an undeniable charm…. and needless to say, very beautiful. Congratulations Bela! It’s well deserved.
I worked with Bela years ago at CBS and at first blush it would be easy to write off such a stunningly beautiful woman but she is one of the rare execs who has it all; talent, ease and respect with everyone she encounters, and that undeniable beauty. It’s so nice when one of the good guys succeeds but even better when one of the good women does! Bravo Bela.
go see Charles.
Just want to say the woman IS SMART TOO!
Marketing next? Please give us an update.
My heartiest congratulations to Bela. I have known Bela since she became Ms. LA India, Ms. USA/India & Ms. Universal/India. She deserves this post, not only for her beauty and brains but also for her warm , humanitarian heart. Bela has a great personality, sense of humor and intelligence to go with, in any job to succeed and make her boss proud of her accomplishment.
