HBO just came out with an official release confirming the Season 5 renewal of Alan Ball’s hit vampire drama True Blood. The pickup has been considered a formality as the series’ writers are already working on Season 5 scripts and Ball let slip at TCA two weeks ago that he has signed a deal to return.
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11, 2011 – HBO has renewed the hit show TRUE BLOOD for a 12-episode fifth season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. Created by Alan Ball, the series will begin production of new episodes later this year in Los Angeles, with debut set for summer 2012. “I am thrilled that TRUE BLOOD continues to enjoy a phenomenal reception from both subscribers and critics,” noted Lombardo. “Alan Ball and his gifted team have devised the greatest thrill ride on TV.”
“I remain amazed and delighted by the enthusiasm of our viewers,” says Ball. “I can’t imagine having more fun than this.”
Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, the Emmy-nominated show takes place at a time when vampires have come out of the coffin, and follows the on-and-off romance between waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts, and 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). Series creator Alan Ball is also an executive producer of the show, which is based on the bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.
TRUE BLOOD recently received four Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series (Alfre Woodard). Season four credits: TRUE BLOOD was created by Alan Ball; based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris; executive producers, Alan Ball, Gregg Fienberg; co-executive producers, Brian Buckner, Mark Hudis, Nancy Oliver, Raelle Tucker, Alexander Woo; co-producer, Christina Jokanovich.

Iam so excited that true blood got picked out for a season 5 and it’s an incredible show.
please, PLEASE pick up the pace next season. This season has been sooooooo slow. Every scene is made long and drawn out beyond the point of sanity.
Wow, you must have been watching something else. You must not be a real fan of the books or series…I think you just want someone to hear you lol. Pick a new show if you don’t like it. It is just fine as it is. If it ran heavy and fast all the time it would lose steam. Clearly you are not a writer.
Who is the Hollywood producer-pedophile that Corey Feldman talked about last night on ABC Nightline that was responsible for Corey Haim’s death?
Blow the whistle, for kids sake….
That should read WAS an incredible show. The last two seasons have oscillated between pretty lacklustre and horrible, imo…
While we are throwing opinions around … still an awesome show. It’s the only show I watch without using the DVR.
frickin were-panthers.
I have to agree, True Blood has lost it’s tang. I bought seasons 2 and 3 on BR but probably won’t even rent S4.
It was a good show but has really went haywire the past few seasons. There are way too many storylines and with characters that fans don’t care about. It’s probably the first time I’ve been ready to quit a show mid-season. And I stuck around through that godawful maenad crap, so that’s sayin’ a lot.
This show has really let me down. I used to LOVE it, but now, I can’t get through an episode. It’s become a parody of itself. And, it’s not even sexy anymore. Sorry, but this show has to get back to it’s roots.
I love True Blood but this season has been the slowest one. I like the idea of a necromancer but I think the actress was a bad choice. Also I would have liked to see more action. I think werewolves and witches are a cool idea but werepanthers should go. Next season I would like to see more action and hopefully bring in some kind of main villain that will really capture the audience more.
wow…thanks for the scoop
