Veteran How I Met Your Mother writer-producer Kourtney Kang has closed an overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television, the studio behind the CBS comedy series. Under the two-year pact, she will be promoted to executive producer of the series, created/executive produced by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, and will develop new projects. Two seasons ago, Kang co-created with Bays, Thomas and another Mother writer-producer, Joe Kelly, the comedy Livin’ on a Prayer, which went to pilot at CBS. Last season, she and Kelly wrote a comedy script for ABC. Both projects were produced by 20th TV. “We love Kourtney,” 20th TV chairman Dana Walden said. “She has been invaluable to Carter and Craig who rely on her heavily. She is very funny, great with stories and has become the heart and soul of the show.”
Kang has been with Mother since the series’ 2005 debut. She joined the series as a staff writer, rising through the ranks to co-executive producer and now exec producer. Kang, repped by UTA and attorney Ken Richman, started off as a development executive at NBC before segueing to writing. She was a writer on NBC’s short-lived Coupling before joining Mother.

Nice. She and I share the same last name. It’s always great news to hear about fellow Kangs going on the up and up.
Awesome! Having worked with Kourtney for years, I can say she’s one of the most talented writers I have ever been in the room with. Yay, Koko, Congrats!
She gave the world Robin Sparkles. She earned this. Bravo!
Congrats to her, this is a great success story. There aren’t many businesses where you can start at the bottom and 6 years later you’re making nearly 7-figures
Smart move 20th! Robin and Glitter spin-off?!
Congratulations Kortney. Your family from Hawaii is so proud of you!!!
Good for her. You won’t hear a single person have anything bad to say about Kourtney. Very talented and just all around pleasant to work with.
Congratulations to a Local Island Girl! Great to see someone as talented as this achieve such success at a very young age! You make all of us in Hawaii so very proud!! Aloha Leilani
I have worked with Koko over the years and I know of various people in assorted career paths who have worked with her and no one deserves this success more than Kourtney. She is such a bright and sweet person but she can be hard as nails when she needs to get the job done. By the way, Kourtney is the most awesome wife and Mom to Zack and Little Lahela Poughkeepsie Rosenblatt ever! Much continued success Koko… you deserve it! Love, Chris
Yay KK! Could not have happened to a nicer gal!
So excited for her. Well done.
This is great news, classy move by 20th.
I like Kourtney so much. I lurve her! So talented. Wonder what her show’s gonna be like? Too bad she’s not producing New Girl.
Kudos to Kourtney! Great Gal and no one deserves this more than her! Fun to know and great to work with!
Livin on a Prayer was dreadful. Can’t wait to see what she comes up with without Bays and Thomas to guide her every move. No, not really.
Don’t know Ms. Kourtney Kang but it’s sweet relief to read the near unanimous response on Deadline that she is a cool, talented and down-to-earth creative wunderkind.
Best of luck to you, Kourtney! I doff my hat in appreciation to your meteoric rise in a tough, rough-n-tumble industry! Kudos.
Kourtney, Thank you for proving nice people don’t finish last. Your are truly a beautiful person…it is in the genes. We wish you continued success, a very bright and long future. The Coopers
