Laurence Fishburne has landed the role of Daily Planet editor Perry White in Warner Bros and Legendary’s Man of Steel, which Zack Snyder is directing ahead of a June 2013 release. Fishburne joins a cast that includes Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe and Christopher Meloni. The Oscar-nominee recently opted not to renew his contract to continue on CBS’ CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Perry… White? Is this some kind of joke? Seem legit.
Another casting choice that not many could have predicted.
A great one though, this film is going to be insane!
I just want to start off by saying that I am black…and as a fan of the SuperMan mythos this is truly offensive. I genuinely doubt this movie’s prospects now. Had my doubts before since Snyder was announced as helmer, but this casting news just exacerbates my suspicions.
As someone who reads the comics, I cannot accept this. This isn’t Nick Fury, who changed races with the start of the Ultimate universe.
They seem to have mixed up Superman and Perry White with Spider-Man and Robbie Robertson.
Yeah, I’ve always loved Spidey’s vocals on “The Weight”.
That’s an interesting choice. I guess most people were expecting a white actor to play Perry White, but I’m sure LF will be great in the role. I can almost picture him in the role now. Jackie Cooper was a great Perry White, so hope LF can project the same kind of energy.

I do wonder if Zack is moving onto that Afghanistan flick far sooner than is being admitted right now.
Clearly, a lot of thought went into this casting decision.
Now imagine how good the movie would be if a fraction of that thinking went into crafting a good story and telling it well.
Eagerly anticipating the news that this train wreck has been canned. Come on lucky clover! Don’t fail me now!

Big movies deserve big casting. This is cool.
Another interesting choice. I’m sure the Superman purists will gripe this is unnecessary political correctness, but sometimes it’s good to shake things up. Fishburne should bring an interesting take to this iconic character. Great Caesar’s ghost, indeed.
And, we all hoped that Zack Snyder would bring a terrific new vision for this Superman reboot…so, why not make Perry White a black man…in fact…let’s make Perry White a black woman…and, cast the newest Oscar winner Oprah in the part.
Okay, Zack did offer the part to Oprah…but, she was wise enough to take her underserved Oscar and call it a day…Oprah is a smart lady.
I hear they are currently recasting Bai Ling to play Lois Lane and Jackie Chan to be Jimmy Olson.
This is not a black vs white thing, but for heavae’s sake what is the thinking… casting Fishburne to play a classic character named Perry WHITE.
Oh Zack…you are such a clever director….NOT.
Oh another tired old star who stopped making an effort years ago. Well I’m glad the movie is stocking up on that!
I have to chime in here; I LOVE THIS choice. First, I hunt and I mean hunt for NOT over exposed, COLOR for the screen. Actors and actresses who may be considered a solid c or b on the bench; who need, indeed ache for a shot. When I read a script I constantly look for scripts which will EMBRACE minorities of ANY COLOR on the screen. I do this for a wide variety of reasons but the main reason is VARIETY. KEEP ON, THANKS NIKKI!
The only thing Larry “aches” for is three more cheeseburgers. He’s hardly a struggling minority actor desperately in need of a “shot.”

A boring and yet predictable choice. Fishburne has been phoning in his career for years. Once again, the boring authority figure. Makes me yearn for the days of Jackie Cooper.
How is it predictable?
Agree that Fishbourne makes NO SENSE for this part. But it’s not because he’s black. There are tons of black people with the last name “White” just like there are tons of white people with the last name “Black.” The name itself doesn’t mean anything. But… this is bad casting. This movie will be a disaster. This is beneath Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane.
How does he make no sense for the role?
really because the previous Perry White were white the actor in this new reboot HAS to be white? GTFO . you dont like it you dont see it simple as that … stop complaining about every single thing out there on the internet .. yall sound like if you live down in a basement in your moms house SMH
I can get behind this colorblind casting. It is not like it makes or breaks the character.
The problem is the entire cast is formed more blind than colorblind. LOL. Has a more random collection ever been shoved together?
Actors act. They play roles. Unless it’s specific, as in a historical, factual, bio pic about Martin Luther King; Lawrence is just as good as any other great actor out there to do this role well. I can’t even believe that people are commenting against him for this.
I’m like what??? Last time I checked Perry is not African American. I think Laurence Fishburne is a phenomenal actor but why are they changing the whole tone of the Superman mythos? What else have they done to change it? Not sure about this movie now and I’m a die hard Superman fan. I guess I always get the image of Perry White being like a 1940′s Jackie Cooper…
