EXCLUSIVE: Hollywood has been wondering exactly when Simon Cowell’s The X Factor debuting on Fox this fall would start adding some celebrity glitz. Now I’ve learned it’s coming soon. The X Factor judges will have one superstar work in each panelist’s respective home to whip their contestants into shape for the show. And Simon Cowell is in final negotiations to have Mariah Carey as his personal pick to mentor his contestants from his house. “He’s still finalizing her deal,” an insider tells me. The X Factor is pulling out all the stops to draw in other superstars as mentors. Contacts are being made now with “the Beyoncés, the Rihannas, all of them.” the insider tells me. The X Factor‘s UK original series reportedly has signed up Usher as a mentor. Mariah’s name has been mentioned in connection with the U.S. show from the beginning but her twins pregnancy prevented her from being one of the judges. This is an interesting way for her and other music pros to be showcased. The result is that The X Factor could outglitz both The Voice and American Idol by combining the best elements from each. The series will air Tuesday and Wednesday nights each week beginning September 21st.

I’m actually really excited for this show. I know very little about it, but somehow the hype machine is working on me. Hope it doesn’t bomb.
It seems like each “singing contest” is trying to outdo the other with the big name “stars” and it’s getting old. I’d rather have my grandmother sit on the panel, at least that gives it a homebody feel. But each TV show is trying to up the next one, and add more glitter and stardom. Frankly, I think these stars need the money more than they need the exposure. Mariah hasn’t done anything in about 2-3 years, so she’s probably hurting for money. Same for Jlo (who I like) and Xtina. Their past records were fails and the best they could do was tour…so the big money wasn’t really there for them.
I want these shows to stop populating.
And while on this rant, there is no guarantee that winning the “Idol” type show guarantees sales or stardom. So it’s all about the networks and the producers getting paid.
I doubt it. Sure its an opportunity for a lot of easy money but do you know how much money Mariah has? She shouldn’t be hurting for anything, same with Jennifer to a less wealthy extent.
You are wrong here DRB – these people need the money to upkeep their lifestyle but to a larger degree, to be relevant.
J-Lo had no record deal, no movie offers and no anything until her team smartly put her on idol. The goal was to make the teenagers think she was relevant – and America bought it.
Next thing you know, she’s got a hit CD, 3 movie deals and the cover of People as the prettiest woman. Do you think she gets that without Idol?
Idol is nothing but a marketing platform for movies and musicians/bands when they have a new CD dropping. . America just eats it up.
We have a chance here to not add 3 more Rolls Royces to Simon Cowells garage. Please don’t watch this show. And if you do, Mariah will be back on the charts and in movies….
Yes we can!!!!!!
Greetings: it’s High time the Queen takes a look at Simon to be in Parliament in the UK. The “X Factor” is going to be an enormous Global Success. The Man is a Brilliant Rags to Riches Story. He hires
Amazing Talent that surrounds him.
I sincerely hope that Simon Cowell is Knighted soon. He’s a National Treasure.

I completely agree – he has changed the face of tv forever and this has allowed him to change his face forever!
It would be way more entertaining if he brought Cheryl Cole back
If there is anything that I know about Mariah Carey, it’s that she doesn’t need the money. Her last album was a Christmas theme compilation of songs, and I think it was the thir best selling holiday album of the year.
In fact, Varry could live off of her Christmas song All I Want for Christmas is You alone and still remain a millionaire.
I’m not certain on Aguilera and Lopez though. All I know is that Aguilera’s last album made headlines for mimicking Lady Gaga’s sound and image, and Lopez hadn’t been on the entertainment radar for years.
*to clear a typo: it was the third bestselling holiday album of 2010.
Hate to break it to you Chris, and I’m trying not to sound like a delusional Stan, but On The Floor was/is one of the biggest hits of the year. J Lo’s CD didn’t sell anything, but that song was HUGE. She’s still musically relevant for that song alone.
We really don’t need another “Ted Mack’s Amateur Hour”. Few if any of these “winners” find commercial success. They may end up on the county fair/Native American casino circuit, but that’s about it.
National singing contests were unique when Idol revived the format (anyone remember Star Search?). But really, another one? Just cause they are relatively cheap to produce means we want to see more of this.
What about an American version of the Eurovision song contest? At least there, you have to have talent in composition as well as performance.
She and her husband just had twins. You would think that she would probably want to take time off but she is running back to work and giving up quality time with her babies just like her husband is constantly at public events.
Simon Cowell’s “success” should hardly be commended and admired – let alone suggest knighthood for him! He has made millions in the UK by being a decidedly obnoxious prat – ratings soar when he publicly humiliates contestants. Is this the kind of arrogant, pretentious and bully-like attitude we want to promote on our TV and in our society – allowing to debase and insult people that are already vulnerable and nervous in front of the TV cameras, but still have the courage to participate? Admittedly most contestants harbour delusional dreams that Cowell will see the star potential in them, but he makes money by abusing those with talent and humiliating those without.
Hardly an impressive
Sounds like a good idea but Cheryl cole could have been brought back honestly speaking.
Cheryl is soooooo AWESOME! and to Simon Cowell you are a HORRIBLE person, I WILL NEVER WATCH X FACTOR U.S. from a proud American fan of Cheryl
What in the world is Mariah going to mentor? She’s a vocalist for gods sake. The women is as impatient as a termite and has no tolerance for anything short of herself. For all that she is….she is NOT a mentor. The record biz is in the shitter and it’s never going to get better so A level performers are going to the last place music is breaking, TV. If her presence on the show tests well she will have her own reality show by next year. Count on that.
