Diane Haithman is contributing to Deadline’s TCA coverage.
Tuesday morning’s MSNBC panel at the TCA began with the news that Rachel Maddow, host of The Rachel Maddow Show, has signed a multi-year contract continue doing her show for MSNBC. The openly gay host — who said that growing up as a lesbian in San Francisco during the AIDS crisis whetted her interest in public policy because policy decisions either saved people’s lives or killed them — declined to specify the length of the contract, but described it as “multi-year” and said after the session that it did not include any changes in her role at MSNBC but just called for her to “do what I do for more years.”

Damn I wanted her to go over to Current.
You and me both. Apparently, giving Bachmennites “migraines” and phony preachers $50 millions dollar reasons to stay.
The MSNBC lineup of loony Liberals remains strong. For every person who whines about Fox News, just click over to MSNBC prime-time and you will see the exact same thing – just with a left side ideology.
I’m not saying one is right and one is wrong, but they are the same. And Maddow is good for the left side – I mean the MSNBC side.
Whine, Whine, Whine. An educated articulate person like Maddox is worth 50 Tea Party Terrorists.
Says the Left Wing terrorist.
You hippocrite lefties and this administration have no problem calling members of the Tea party terrorists but you seem to have a problem calling terrorists, terrorists. The guy at fort hood firing on soldiers as he yelled Allah Akbar. He wasn’t a terrorist? You are what is wrong with this country. You want to pay more taxes? Send in the check. Get used to the tea party my friends. It’s growing like a raging wildfire. See you in 2012.
The only difference between Fox News and MSNBC is ratings. The depressed IQs and disingenuousness of the talking heads are identical.
Ummm. How about the ratings? Fox draws more viewers than CNN MSNBC and CNBC combined.
Well, Univision gets bigger ratings than Fox, so by that logic, it’s time to pass The Dream Act. Yes, no?
Their news division gets better ratings than Fox? I don’t think so. Like most liberals you look at the byline and forget to look at the story or face the facts. They are such stubborn things. As for the dream act, I’m confused. Because illegals watch TV, we should legalize them? Again, the liberal rationale is fascinating. Ill informed, emotional and wrongheaded.
Well duh, that’s because everything is funnier in Spanish.
Even though I would disagree with her on many issues, I have to say that Maddow stands out as one of the few reasonable opinion show hosts, and looking at the ratings, viewers seem to reward that. Maddow is now often above the 300,000 viewers line in the core demographic. Good for her and good call from MSNBC to ditch crazy Olbermann and promote her.
read Daily Howler…Bob Somerby (a liberal) does not rate Maddow highly, and calls her out on routine misstatements and bungled arguments
Rachel Maddow — the very BEST of MSNBC. Congratulations, her words are my addiction.
The difference between MSNBC and Fox news is clear. Fox news manufactures its news and never backup its commentaries with facts, while on the other hand, MSNBC tends to backup its commentaries with facts.
The real difference between Fox and MSNBC is people actually watch Fox!!!
“Fox news manufactures its news and never backup its commentaries with facts…”
Is that a fact? Or is that just how a Liberal voter views Fox News? That argument/example is ridiculous. I watch both MSNBC and Fox and they are the same! The same! The only difference is political bent.
To say Fox manufactures news is silly. Did you not watch Olbermann when he was on? How about lefty wack-job Larry O’Donnell? Oh, but Ed Shultz is a beacon of honest reporting and fact-based commentary.
Do not be a hypocrite. Hate Fox all you want. Hate Republicans all you want. But don’t kid yourself like one side, or one news organization, is somehow doing it cleaner and better and without evil in their heart.
Enough already.
Congrats, Rachel! Your opening essays are getting better and better and you are, at least, one of three jewels” in the crown of MSNBC (along with Lawrence and Chris). Carry on!
“Rachel Maddow — the very BEST of MSNBC.”
No wonder their ratings SUK!!!
While I’d agree that most talking heads at MSNBC are just that (Ed Schulz is simply a liberal clone of Hannity & O’Reilly), Rachel has always seemed to be someone who actually cares about the facts. She is very open when she makes a mistake and will happily correct it when it is pointed out to her (as far as I’ve seen). She seems to actually have a grasp on the issues of the day. I agree that she, like most of MSNBC, has a leftward slant, but if my choices during that hour are a) Dr. Drew b) Sean Hannity c) Piers Morgan or Rachel, it’s clear to me who to watch. Congrats Rachel!
You and her mom agree on that point!
We love Rachel Maddow! More like her, please. Rosie O’Donnell are you listening?
You have GOT to be kidding. Rosie — like Oliver Stone — gives liberalism a bad name.
Scott, you and her mom agree on that point, at least she has two viewers.
Given their ratings and implied budget, I bet she’s paid in C batteries.
LOL! Damn I just spit up my soda. That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day, thanks.
Sorry Rachel, I am a gay male and the AIDS epidemic had little to do with public policy and everything to do with behavior, i.e. promiscuous sex. At the height of the epidemic the gay community in that northern California cesspool of yours fought the closing of bath houses while blaming Ronald Reagan for the spread of the disease. Gay men are still engaging in promiscuous, unprotected sex and web sites like gay.com and craigslist illustrate what is REALLY going on in the gay community. Facts are stubborn things.
Personally, I’d love to slap that crooked, snarky expression off her face. The number of bald-faced lies she has spread is an ever-growing list. But that is the modis operandi of MSNBC hosts. I don’t need to document them for you here, just do a Google search. You’ll be apalled.
Sorry Rachel, I am a gay male and — BULLSHIT.
But thanks for playing.
Sorry to burst your bubble Jason, but I am indeed gay. I am also a conservative tea party member. There are many of us who do not embrace most of the gay culture and its perverse view of “community.”
I’m quite aware that most gay people goose-step to left-wing marching orders but I am not swayed by much of the so-called “gay rights” rhetoric. My political beliefs transcend my sexual preference. There are growing numbers of gay men and women who refuse to be represented by those who exploit the gay community to advance a political agenda much like they do other minority communities by promoting a sense of victimization. Groups like Log Cabin and GOProud show that the gay community is as diverse as any other community.

My lesbian sister can’t stand her either, and calls her Rachel MadCow. Being gay doesn’t mean you’re automatically liberal and fall lock-step in line with the left Jason. Sorry that concept might blow your mind, but I think you need to give the LGBT community a little more credit. Some are capable of making up their own minds, believe it or not.
Give Aaron the benefit of the doubt about his sexual preference, Jason Todd/Robin. There are gay conservatives OUT there who are about as in lock-step with the homosexual left as Pat Buchanan is.
glad to see rachel is going to add her view point and try and give the opinion those talking head republican lap dogs do not do on fox. for how ever many years her contract is and if a bonus is she drives the tea party and michele nuts a bonus.
Who?
PMSNBC has really earn the state PMS state run media.
LOL. Drudge Trolls! What would we do without them?
When is Drudge finally gonna come out?
I hope she stops doing those silly promos now that they have given her a raise. Her openings are often rambling and annoying.
Glad to hear it, she really earned it… HA HA HA HA HA

These #’s simply back up what I said in my message. Take a look at Maddow’s standing; 3rd from the BOTTOM. Why ? She’s difficult to watch because of her sarcasm and negativity. It’s a huge turn off – and apparently – I am among a huge # of people who think alike – or her ratings would be much higher. THEY WILL NEVER BE. She’ll die at LSNBC
He deserves it, I watch Mr. Maddow’s show every night and he always puts on an informative, entertaining broadcast
of course msnbc would renew her. They have nobody else of value they can hire. She’s usually LAST in the ratings every night, sometimes 2nd, far behind Fox. Nobody of value wants to work at that station. All their shows rank usually last.
Bill H, you made me laugh with that.
Gee whiz guys… why is it that an educated, intelligent, successful woman that will never, ever date you gets you so riled up? It’s just television. Read the paper. Tutor. Help the elderly. Plant a tree.

This has nothing to do with Sarah Palin!
50?
All who would like to see the U.S fail just to stick it to a liberal president are guilty of treason..
