Lifetime didn’t get a lot of traction with the debut of new series Against the Wall last night. The cop/family drama, which drew largely positive reviews, drew 1.8 million viewers at 10 PM; 638,000 of them were in the women 25-54 demographic. That was on par with the recent premiere of Lifetime’s other new scripted series, The Protector, which opened its soft freshman run with 1.9 million viewers last month. But Against the Wall showed far better lead-in retention, holding onto 86% of the audience of Drop Dead Diva (2.1 million). The Protector debut held onto 50% of its lead-in, Army Wives.

They need to move a repeat of the previous week’s Drop Dead Diva or repeats of Army Wives before Against the Wall to give it some lead in.
This was a poorly written pilot. The family dynamic is utterly unrealistic — even for television — and it’s obvious the writers no nothing of how Internal Affairs actually works in a big city police department. The only bright spot is Rachael Carpani, but you need more than a rally great actress to lift up a poorly written and badly researched drama.
Spoken like an out-of-work writer who’s out of work for a reason. By the way, just because spell check doesn’t catch your mistakes, doesn’t mean you didn’t make them. ‘No’ [sic] what I mean, Joan?
Treat Williams is great as the dad and Kathy Baker a strong tenderness as the mom. It is a solid cast.
REALLY OldGuard? You saw a picture of a FAMILY of COPS sitting around a table and you could take it from there that the show was probably going to be about a FAMILY of COPS? Nice man.
Of course it is… nobody can tell what the eff this show is about from the poster ads on buses and subways and online banner ads.
Agreed. Plus there’s also the confusion over the title; based on the commercials, I could’ve sworn the show was called “Internal Affairs.”
Yo Joan! You’re a Douch Cookie! How was the family dynamic “utterly unrealistic” and how do you knows much about how IA works??
I for one though the show was pretty great and though the family stuff was absolutely believable and the best part of the show! Excited for next week, LOVED the cliff hanger!!!
And by Douch I mean DOUCHE
If you were so bright, you would check your spelling errors before posting a comment. ‘A rally great actress…’ I think the pilot was very compelling and I look forward to the next episodes.
I’ll take a guess why it did so poorly, I’ve never heard of this show until this post.
Well I look forward to seeing how the rest of the season unfolds. I like that it is a scripted drama in addition to seeing some newer faces as well as familiar faces on the cast.
It looked horrible in the trailers.
Everyone (except Kathy Baker) looks like TV people. While I get we want to see attractive people pouring out of our idiot boxes, do they all have to look like they walked out of TV guide?
Oh yeah, because movies are so good. It’s attractive people with expensive visual effects. Yeah, that’s better. Watch the show, idiot!
It is great to see Jodi doing so well over there in the States. The gang at Drovers Run is wishing you the best.
Not a lot of folks are gonna get that one.
McLeod’s Daughters aired in the US several years back for a very short time on the WE network so maybe more people will get it than we think?
$50 says they don’t “get” it Nick Ryan.
But yes, Rachael is doing great and all those McLeod’s and their Daughters would be proud
The Cuban rum thing didn’t work out, but at least they let her keep her Aussie accent in that one. Sort of odd hearing her speak American, somewhere a speech coach has committed malpractice by quashing her charming accent.
Just so she always remembers to close the gate, it should all work out OK.
Loved the show especially the 3 brothers . want to see more episodes.
Rachael Carpani is horribly miscast. She looks like she just stepped off the set of some Victorian drama. The dialogue was godawful as well. I gave up less than halfway through. Should be interesting to see next week’s numbers.
I love this show. I don’t watch tv for “realistic”. It’s TV. It’s entertainment. Life is realistic.
I thought is was very cleverly written. The family, work and personal drama and how it all tied together. I was looking for a release date for the new season but hadn’t realized it hadn’t done so well. I hope Lifetime will give it another chance for a 2nd season.
sad to see this go
