EXCLUSIVE: Steven Soderbergh’s hunkfest Magic Mike is finally getting something that has so far been missing: actresses. Olivia Munn is negotiating to play the role of Amber, the love interest to Channing Tatum, who plays Magic Mike. She’ll join Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer and True Blood‘s Joe Mangianello. All of them play male strippers in the coming-of-age story that revolves around the relationship between a veteran dancer (Tatum) and his protege (Pettyfer). The film is based on experiences Tatum actually had when he was a teenage dancer. As for Munn, she next stars opposite Sarah Jessica Parker in I Don’t Know How She Does It for The Weinstein Company, as well as the Aaron Sorkin HBO pilot More As the Story Develops. Munn continues as a correspondent on The Daily Show and she just shot the indie Babymakers, co-starring with Paul Schneider. CAA and Mosaic rep Munn.

This is one good looking cast! Very happy to see Olivia be a part of it. She’s having a killer year.
Great. I can’t wait to DVR this movie one day and fast forward through everything but Olivia’s scenes. The Sorkin pilot is definitely cool though.
To be honest this movie doesn’t sound very good at all. Sounds very stupid. How did they get McConaughey to be in this movie?
Producers: “Matthew, there’s a character in this story that takes off his shirt a lot”.
McConaughey: “When do we start?”
Just shows why men can’t make a chick flick. No guy is going to see a male stripper movie, but girls would. Then they cast an actress who isn’t liked by women. Munn plays up the whole “I’m just one of the guys!” shtick while wearing a revealing dress.
I’m a woman who loves Olivia Munn and know other women who do, and none who don’t. True, there was a little pandering to be one of the guys, ATOS required that, but her comic chops and charisma are undeniable. I’m delighted to see her act, but like her personality more than the roles she’s getting.
She’s not an actress. Not the note Soderbergh should go out on.
Soderbergh’s supposed last film will be Liberace with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon which shoots after this.
She must have an AMAZING agent. Her acting is TRAGIC.
How do so-called actresses such as Olivia Munn score all of these glowing magazine profiles in Esquire, GQ and Vanity Fair — a deluge of publicity in indirect proportion to their showing any evidence of acting chops? It is ridiculous. These women are nothing more than pretty faces of the moment. I wish people would realize that hot looks does not an actress or actor make.

Do some homework brother. Not only did she have NBC’s Perfect Couples, but booked Aaron Sorkin’s show at HBO, has I Dont Know How She Does It coming out this month, did Babymakers w/ Paul Schneider, and now this. Educate yourself.
She used to be relevant when she was on AOTS. She had some street cred with the nerd community. She obviously can’t hold anything on her own. She is far from being “on fire.”
still don’t know why the nerds even gave her cred because she’s not smart or intellectual at all (there are writers for these shows, crazy!). it must because they felt like it was the first time they ever got attention from a hot girl, even though it was from one who was getting paid to speak through them through a tv.
I hope she will play an action heroine one day or at least have one little fight in a movie. Just let her kick a guy in the groin or something.

Well put — women don’t like her, that puts a low ceiling on where she’s going.
It’s the ability to appeal to BOTH sexes that makes movie stars — this is SO SIMPLE to understand. In additional to appealing to women, guys like Harrison Ford and Bruce Willis and Denzel. Guys don’t like Zac Efron and Orlando Bloom.
Women like Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep, they don’t like Olivia Munn. And no matter how many male agents and execs want to (#$&@ her, women still can’t stand Megan Fox, therefor she’s not and will never be a true movie star. Women like Emma Roberts and Amanda Seyfried, look what’s happening with them. Honestly this stuff is not hard Hollywood! Keep the next Megan Fox on the shelf please.

Just saw a screening of Weinstein’s I Don’t Know How She Does It and Olivia was AMAZING in it. She’s the best part of the movie. She’s definitely an actress… even if she got her start on G4. Do you say the same thing about Jacinda Barrett? No. Doesnt matter where TALENT is discovered as long as they are TALENTED.

An all caps amazing… really?! You must be her agent or something… because no rational human being would (or should) ever be AMAZED by Olivia Munn’s acting unless they have a vested interest in her success.
I on the other hand am amazed (not an all caps amazed, but still amazed) she continues to get acting work. She must be doing something right.

“Magic Mike” is supposed to shoot in September. When would HBO shoot the Sorkin series — October/November?
