Kevin Zegers, Chris Noth, Derek Jacobi and Neve Campbell are in various stages of negotiations to join the $28 million, 12-part British miniseries Titanic: Blood & Steel, which has begun filming in Belfast. Unlike Simon Vaughn’s internationally produced four-hour miniseries Titanic, which was picked up by ABC and ITV1, Titanic: Blood & Steel, also an international co-production, doesn’t have U.S. or UK distribution yet. It chronicles the building of the Titanic, beginning in Edwardian Belfast in the early 1900s and depicting how the greatest leviathan of all time was hand made in a city on the edge of revolution. Zegers, repped by ICM and Untitled, will play Mark Muir, the metallurgist on the world’s greatest shipbuilding project who discovers potentially fatal flaws in the quality of metal being used to build the Titanic. Noth is expected to play financier J.P. Morgan; Jacobi would play Lord William Pirrie, chairman of the company that built the ill-fated liner; and Campbell is a reporter covering the liner’s maiden voyage. Directed by Ciaran Donnelly and written by Mark Skeet, Matthew Faulk and Alan Whiting, Titanic: Blood & Steel is produced by De Angelis Group, Take 5 Prods and Epos Films.

I’m in.
Don’t tell me how it ends.
James Cameron is probably banging his head against the wall yelling THEY’RE NOT DOING IT IN 3D!
Was fortunate enough to have read a couple of these scripts about two weeks ago. Very cool story and one people don’t give enough attention. Kevin Zegers is perfect for the lead. He was great in TransAmerica and I’ve been waiting for him to hit the scene again on a higher profile piece. After reading three of the twelve parts I can say he’s got a VERY demanding role and is literally on every single page; so good for him. A classy group….Chris Noth is such a chameleon. I can’t wait to see where it lands in the US. Rumor has it — it will be at a major player in the US.
Nobody realizes 100+people were killed in the making of a ship that was supposed to not possibly sink. Historically speaking — I hope it is accurate.
JP Morgan is a great role for Chris Noth. Sir Derek is class and Neve will deliver. Though I am a fan, I’m surprised about Zegerrs. Only because it is a heavy role. Kudos to him they didn’t go with the biggest name but rather the best actor. He’s the real thing.
BTW- hear the director will breakout from this….
Just woke up, watching the tele (BBC 1 to be specific) and reading your blog (as I do everyday) on my IPAD. Here in London this project has been on the radar a while. I am quite keen to see what comes of this. People don’t realize that this has nothing to do with all the previous incarnations of the Titanic story….this is seemingly a prequel, correct?
Kevin is a stud and one hell of an actor. I’ve had the privilege to work with him more than once over the course of several years. He is smart, driven and frankly a brilliant actor. I believe he switches dialects several times over the course of this mini-series which is never easy for an actor. Yet, he was brilliantly convincing in 50 DEAD MEN WALKING opposite Sir Ben Kingsley and Jim Sturgess for Kari Skogland. Love this kid and this should thrust him forward.
Interesting subject matter and several cool actors
Three letters, one word:
Ugh.
Weird. There’s another series afoot named after a vessel and featuring “Blood &” with a type of metal.
“Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome.”
SNORE.
Zegers has got the goods….just watched 50 Dead Men Walking on cable where he stars opposite Ben Kingsley and Jim Sturgess. Unreal accent and mastery of dialect.
Hmm mm….. Inneresting. Not ure what to make of this but I do like Zegers. Not sure where he’s been the past year or 2 although I’ve seen a couple of indies he’s done. This is a big role for him, hope he’s delivering like he did in Transamerica and had him almost lock the lead in newMission Impossible film. This guy is an enigma to me. He’s either going to fade into obscurity circa Cole Hauser or blow up like Cheis Pine. Neither would surprise me. I’d put my money on the latter though, call it a hunch.
Always loved Neve Campbell she never ages.
They seriously expect us to watch a show about the building of a big boat? That’s like a porn film taking us on a tour of the condom factory.
The ship sank. Get over it.
Derek Jacobi is great in EVERYTHING. Zegers was really strong in 50 Dead Men Walking and was almost unrecognizable with the accent, this should be a solid role for him. Not really a Noth fan but thankfully JP Morgan shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for him – we’ll have to see. Interested to see how the prequel unfolds. With $30M invested it’ll either be genius or a total disaster (pun intended).
No mention of the Olympic, natch.
It is not ‘British’. It is an Italian/ Irish co-production.
