Fox’s unscripted series Buried Treasure became the latest new broadcast show this summer to underperform, drawing a 1.0/3 among adults 18-49 in its premiere last night. It finished last in the 8 PM hour behind CBS’ Big Brother (2.8/9), NBC’s Minute To Win It (1.5/5) and ABC’s repeat of The Middle (1.2/4). Buried Treasure was also lower than the debut of NBC’s similarly themed It’s Worth What? (1.8/6) last month. Minute to Win It and America’s Got Talent (2.8/8) were both up from last week, by 15% and 12%, respectively. With a repeat of Law & Order: SVU (1.6/4) also improving the 10 PM slot by 14% vs. the finale of Love in the Wild last week, NBC (2.0/6, 7.3 million viewers)
edged CBS (1.8/5, 6.3 million) for No. 1 on the night. Big Brother, which was followed by drama repeats, was down 10% from last Wednesday and tied NBC’s Talent for the top spot in 18-49. ABC aired comedy repeats with a new Happy Endings (1.4/4) sprinkled among them. It was up 27% from the rerun episode last week, though some of the boost may have come from its lead-in, a Modern Family repeat (1.9/5), which was up 12% week-to-week.

Whaaa? The outdoor was so appealing for Buried Treasure.
That’s reassuring to see Buried Treasure struggle. That show seems to be about selling off the family tree.
Buried Treasure is a half an hour too long and belongs on basic cable. In no way should that be a prime time reality show. Pawn Stars is a MUCH better show in the genre.
Does anne know why Fox debuted Buried Treasure in late August other than they wanted to burn off episodes?
PBS does the show so much better. RIP, rip off of Antiques Road Show.
Funny, not that this show comes off as “real”, but it comes off as light years more real than american pickers or pawn stars which reek of being completely staged because they are. But I guess that’s what viewers want. Buried Treasure has shades of hoarders, american pickers and history detectives. I think it’s primary problem is that viewers are not looking to find this kind of show on a broadcast network like fox and on a weeknight. It feels like an odd fit there.
Am I alone in loving this show? I thought it was fun and seriously entertaining!
How come Fox did not promo the hell out of Leigh and Leslie Keno on this. I saw an ad for it and blew if off. Had I known they were on it I would have watched it. I hope they leave it on for another week so I can see it.
I am one that actually avoids most of these so called reality shows. They always attempt to real you in and keep you only to leave you feeling you’ve wasted your time. I did see part of the episode Buried Treasure this evening. And sure enough that what it does! As expected. My problem with most if not all of these shows is this. They tell people what items are worth or should I say what they want others to believe their worth all the while their real excitement is what they will make off of the item if they are able to fool it away from the owner for a profit. Are they really doing anything more then any pawn shop does, buy low sell high? It might be worth this or that if it was this or that, let me have my buddy look at it, yeah right, let me call someone to see what I can sell it for, is what THE REAL REALITY IS, OF IT ALL! Just a slick way of fooling one more fool out of their money!
