With HBO sibling Cinemax rapidly ramping up its original primetime series development and production, the channel is now getting a dedicated programming executive. Former Film Department exec Scott Nemes will shepherd the development and production of original series for Cinemax, reporting to HBO Miniseries president Kary Antholis, who has been overseeing Cinemax’s original programming efforts. Nemes, a former child actor, was most recently SVP production and development at film financing/production company The Film Department, which folded in May. He previously worked at at Immortal Entertainment, where he co-produced My Baby’s Daddy for Miramax and developed the films Kiss of the Dragon for Fox, Life Without Dick for Columbia and Searching for Debra Winger for Showtime. Cinemax’s first primetime original series, Strike Back, launched on Friday to solid ratings. The channel, primarily known for its latenight erotic programming, has 2 more series in the pipeline, The Sector and The Transporter, with another one, the Alan Ball-produced Banshee, in the works.

Scott is a tremendously talented producer and an incredibly decent and good guy. What a great hire!
Good for Scott. Glad he was able to bounce back from the Film Department debacle.
The re-branding of CINEMAX will be interesting to follow. It’s still not too appropriate for someone to say, “Hey, did you catch ____ on Cinemax last night?” without the other person assuming they’re talking about something lude and nude. But I think this could work. Good luck!
good for scott and great for cinemax. love what they are doing with that channel. some very cool material. strike back rocks!
Yeah, Skinemax definitely needs to get rid of the porn and leave that for pay-per-view only. Strike Back looks pretty good… I wonder if the actors got odd looks when they told people they’re on Cinemax at night! lol
Scott should be the President Of Showbiz in my opinion!! Smart, reliable and a great buffalo wingman!
Worked with Scott and know him personally. A great guy with smart instincts and the network is very lucky to have him on board.
…and a loyal USC Trojan!
in a writer driven medium, there couldn’t be a worse hire. this should be a warning to all writers NOT to work with Cinemax.
Not a fan – Your post should should be a sign for all network execs to stay clear of your hacky material. I think this very moment is the most attention you will get in the business. Good luck. I predict you won’t sell your next idea.
Notafan, have you actually worked with Nemes? Clearly most people disagree with you.
Good stuff Scott!
Scott is one of the best in the biz! Congrats!!!
Good for Cinemax! Nemes is a smart hire. Tireless worker, great taste and no ego. He’s one of the good guys and its nice to see someone scoop him up! Way to go Nemes!
GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT!!!!!
dc cab yo. he was in fucking dc cab.
and i dont know a writer that doesn’t really like child star and incredibly hard working scotty nemes…he’s a good guy, easy to work with, great family guy…this is the guy people like. is there one or two who doesn’t… probably, but you generally bet on the 9 out of 10 guys, scotty’s it.
Scott Nemes is one of the best – an honest, hard-working executive who knows how to deal with the delicate egos of us writer-types. So happy for him.
