There was no Kurt Sutter reaction to AMC’s renewal of Breaking Bad yesterday. That’s because the refreshingly uncensored Sons of Anarchy creator had just pulled the plug on his Twitter feed, days after he blamed the protracted negotiations for the Vince Gilligan-created Breaking Bad and the firing of The Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont on Matt Weiner’s megadeal for Mad Men. “No one else wants to f**king say it, but the greed of Mad Men is killing the other two best shows on TV — Breaking Bad and Walking Dead,” Sutter wrote last week. “Why Darabont got fired — Weiner. He held AMC hostage, broke their bank, budgets were slashed, shit rolled down hill onto Gilligan and Frank. Those, along with the recent anti-TV Academy zingers, are now just a distant memory. Here is Sutter blog post on his exit from Twitter:
“I’m a guy desperately in need of buffers. I have big feelings, big reactions, big emotions. All the things that serve me as an artist, but challenge me as a socially-responsible human being. I’ve learned in most areas of my life, to bounce heated choices off other people. Co-workers, my agent, my wife, a sponsor, etc. A majority of the time, that keeps me on the right side of things. With Twitter, there was no buffer, just me, my big feelings and my big opinions. I don’t regret any tweet, nor do I apologize. Everything I said was done in the spirit of social conversation, free speech and was my opinion. Right or wrong, I said it, I own it.
I also don’t blame anyone for my exit. No one chased me away except me. Yes, the lazy blogosphere has given up on journalism and now trolls Twitter for their on-the-record in-depth articles. Yes, the hate outweighs the love. But my deactivation was pretty much self-preservation. Eventually, I would have said something that got me or someone else buried in a suffocating pile of irrevocable toxic man s–t … The whole Twitter phenomenon is really indicative of what’s happening in this country. And I say this in condemnation of myself as much as anyone else — we are growing into a nation that has no time, desire or capacity for truth. All we can handle is 140 characters of knowledge. Headlines, spin, soundbites. We want other people to tell us what we should think. It’s just cleaner and easier that way. Awareness, compromise and understanding are no longer tools in our social toolkit.”

Translation: The network is about to fire me if I don’t shut my big f***ing mouth.
Nah, not that at all.
This guy just keeps spinning…
I hope he treats his staff better than Darabont did. Otherwise Sutter may be getting the axe too.
Thank God this petulant little child is shutting the hell up. What a talentless douche, whining about someone else’s deal.
Talentless? Sutter has been a part of two of the best TV shows in recent years. What show have you created? I’d love to hear your story.
This site is always good for the generic PR-line from all the faceless power worshippers. Many anonymous assholes have “talent.” This celebrated asshole doesn’t hold his dirtbag characters to an ounce of accountability that doesn’t make them look like tragic badasses in the process. It’s typical aged tough-guy posturing. The Sopranos revealed their characters to be sociopathic hypocrites; Sons of Anarchy just stands there beating its chest.
I should add that I still love the guy’s honesty, and I can’t hate a guy who’s married to Peg Bundy. But self-awareness on this kind of show is essential, and it’s something that would be severely compromised by rolling with the HAMC.
Well said!
Sutter’s a storytelling genius. PERIOD.
Talentless? Wow, you couldn’t be more wrong. He wrote some of the best episodes of the critically acclaimed The Shield, and if you’v ever sat down and read the pilot to Sons of Anarchy, you’d know this guy could write.
tell it Sister! And hopefully Sutter will co-write The Shield feature film that the public demands. Vic Mackey must get Ronnie out of prison. Vic must find Corrine and the kids.
Is Aceveda a senator now?
Are Dutch or Danbi running the precinct?
The definition of douchebag.
at last 2 comments that hold the truth. both a_ and cannibal Ox have insider info witch is correct. how close both comments came to being acted out.
I too have insider info. You’re actually wrong. And you spelled witch wrong.
Yes! Sutter just realized he’s an angry asshole who’s opinions no one really cares about1 Yes!
Truth? Sutter wants truth? Have him talk to an amc exec or a writer on walking dead. Darabont was and is trash. He’s only as good as the material he’s adapting. They have kirkman– why do you need a windbag like darabont around? He’s hot zero tv experience. Good riddance to him and to mr. Sutter. They deserve each other
Actually, Sutter and Glen Mazarra, another Shield alum and now showrunner of TWD are friends. Sure they talked.
On one hand you can’t fault Weiner for making the best possible deal for Mad Men. On the other you can totally fault AMC for creating this shit storm. Sutter is right about the effects of what’s happening with Breaking Bad and Walking Dead, just wrong on who to blame it on. Just the wrong year to have the last name of a dick I guess
He wasn’t whining about not getting a better deal than the other guy. Mad Men has lost it, and AMC is afraid to give up it’s first breakout hit, and they’re even more afraid of pissing off Matt Weiner apparently. Now because of his antics we may see a much diminished Walking Dead return, not the awesome that was the first season.
I loved his tweets! Please… can’t someone have an opinion?
s
Writers think they are not as annoying or stupid sounding as actors because they write for a living. They’re writing is great when worked out and edited. It’s their speaking which is not so impressive. This guy sounds highly unprofessional and self-centered. I’m guessing his reps and that staff keeps his ship floating.
If his show was nearly as good as he thinks it is none of his rantings would be an issue. I feel for him, it’s gotta be hard realizing you’re unbelievably replaceable even on your own show.
First of all, Kurt Sutter is whiny asshole with daddy issues, it will be good for him to stop tweeting, he should focus on the show. The worst one were his rants about Emmys. Kurt: THE SHOW DIDN’T DESERVE FOR LUCKLASTER SEASON 3. THE ONLY NOM YOU DESERVED WAS FOR WRITING AND DIRECTING FINALE.
As of Weiner, am I alone missing something? Isn’t Lionsgate paying him that kind of money and not AMC? I always thought that AMC didn’t have any problems with Weiner, but the studio had. So how Weiner is responsible for mess that AMC has done with other shows?
good riddance, then again, FX probably told him to shut it.
He’s got a mediocre show, at best, and this was probably his way to attracting attention to it and himself only he went about it the wrong way.
SONS OF ANARCHY is cheesy.
It’s refreshing that a handful of folks say what they feel without worrying about hurting someones feeling or hurting their own future. His tweets will be missed.
The baby took his basketball and went home. Poor little baby.
Kurt Sutter is a snitch who put his nose where it didn’t belong.
They got ways of dealing with snitches around here.
Maybe without being a blabbermouth on twitter he can focus on his show that was an utter turd last season – it was like a Lifetime movie with leather.
I bet if FX told Sutter that they wanted to give him less for Sons so they could keep Danny DeVito on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, he’d be waaaaing like a little baby kidnapped in Northern Ireland.
This is the funniest comment yet. Are you talking about how Hollywood deals with snitches? Wow. Haha.
Joe Flynn was killed when he hinted he was going to snitch on certain people in Hollywood.
Artist? Really? Artist? This guy is hilarious.
Finally he shuts the hell up.More work on your mediocre show and less spouting off!!
He was told by FX to shut the hell up.
KS — Time to come out.
Amazing the level of hate expressed for a man who is obviously successful and talented. (Or he wouldn’t be where he is.)
As for SOA, it may not be some folks definition of entertainment, but it has garnered a loyal and growing fan base. (yes, I am one of them.)
Mad Men and The Walking Dead are just tedious repackaged canned dog food. Breaking Bad on the other hand is a unique story concept that makes you wonder what you would do in that situation.
SOA is introspective (Jax tormented by his fathers memoir) and Shakespearean. (Others have cited the similarities, so I won’t.)
Mr. Sutter is RIGHT ON THE MONEY when he says that “journalists” are lazy, using Twitter to write a story. Especially, IMHO, when they single out one Tweet to write the whole article, ignoring the rest of the conversation. Yellow journalism at best, worthless drivel for the most part.
