EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures TV is resurrecting Dead Lawyers, the high-concept legal drama it originally developed for SyFy eight years ago, with Graham Yost on board to co-write/executive produce and John Stamos attached to star. The project’s first incarnation, written by Christopher Murphey, went to pilot at Syfy and was directed by Paris Barclay and starred Sean Patrick Flanery. Now Sony TV is taking another stab at the concept — a hotshot defense attorney is run over by a bus and finds himself in his own version of hell: a law firm on earth composed of other dead lawyers, all trying to right miscarriages of justice in order to redeem themselves — with Yost, the developer/executive producer of the studio’s FX drama Justified. CAA-repped Yost will co-write the script with Justified co-executive producer Fred Golan. Stamos is set to play the hot-shot lawyer in what would be his first series starring role since his stint on ER. The project, envisioned as a legal procedural with a twist, is being pitched to the networks this week. Stamos, repped by WME and Brillstein, recently recurred on Fox’s Glee.

Sounds kinda like Drop Dead Diva…minus the dingbats.
@amy: DDD + Dead Like Me.
Love the concept.
This may be the worst idea I’ve ever heard of.
The only good thing about it is Stamos. Besides, what’s the difference between dead lawyers and living ones, neither have a working heart or humanity. And this comment comes from one.
Well, you already seem too honest to be a lawyer…
I don’t know. Yost has written some of the worst television in the past few years. Isn’t he supposed to be guiding FALLEN SKIES… right into the crapper. Same for THE PACIFIC. What could have been?
Glad to hear they are reworking the original though. Was awful.
“The Pacific” was fantastic, Morton. And anyway — anything with “Dead” and “Lawyers” in the title, I’m in.
So would you say Stamos is the Greek Rob Lowe?
As good an actor as Lowe?
As sexy?
Talk amongst yourselves, I’m a little verklempt.
two snaps up
I love John Stamos. I’d watch him in anything.
How many of the above comments are planted by those involved with John Stamos or the project? “I see a dead show” if it gets even a shot at all.
Government Attorneys have destroyed lives and put innocent human beings in prisons, yet it’s defense attorneys that this show is targeting. Of course can’t think outside the box. At least go after class action attorneys.
A better idea would be a reality show about Stamos and his 21 year old girlfriends. Yes they are legal but there’s the moral argument. And how he tries to hide them from the public view. That’s a show I would watch! Yost must be desperate choosing him.
So did they ever sell to a network?
