After Sony commandeered May 2, 2014 for an Amazing Spider-Man sequel that hasn’t shot a frame of film, other studios are casting far into the future and staking out weekends on their tent pole films of the future. Lionsgate has set Nov. 22, 2013 as the opening weekend for Catching Fire, the second installment of The Hunger Games trilogy. The first installment of the Gary Ross-directed series comes out March 23, 2012, with Jennifer Lawrence heading the cast.
Disney has dated one of its future but unspecified Marvel movies for May 16, 2014, and another for June 27, 2014. It also dated an unspecified Pixar film for May 30, 2014, an untitled 3D film by Henry Selick for Oct. 4, 2013 and The Odd Life of Timothy Green for Aug. 15, 2012. The studio isn’t saying yet which Marvel movies will claim those dates. So far, Avengers is dated for May 4, 2012, Iron Man 3 is May 3, 2013, and Thor 2 is July 26, 2013.

Cart, meet horse.
I wonder if this is the same unspecified Pixar film that was slated for November 2013 (indicating a delay) or if it’s now a second unspecified Pixar film…
(After what happened with “newt” and “Rio”, I really can’t blame them for not wanting to announce what their films are going to be about.)
What happened with “Newt” and “Rio”?
Pixar’s “newt”, which was announced in 2008, was to have been a romantic comedy about the last two blue-footed newts having to repopulate to save the species, but who can’t stand each other. The male, Newt, was to have been a sheltered pet while the female, Brooke, was to have come from the wild.
Fox and Blue Sky’s “Rio”, which was announced in 2009, is a romantic comedy about the last two blue mackaws having to repopulate the species, but who can’t stand each other. The male, Blue, is a sheltered pet, while the female, Jewel, is from the wild.
While Rio definitely took some turns that newt probably wouldn’t have (being a musical, for one), the similarity of the projects and Rio taking the earlier release date, is part of why Pixar have cancelled/indefinitely delayed newt.
Gotta move product.
I tried TRIED to read the books to see what the hubbub was all about. I couldn’t get past page 10. It’s so horribly written with grating descriptions and dialogue. I’m going to try it again, but I won’t hold my breath. I’ll be interested to see how this does in the box office.
It won’t take too long to know what these projects are.
Disney was always set to announce some far out stuff at their upcoming convention, but they probably decided to stake the dates now since there’s been an influx of date-snatching lately.
I’m calling November 25th, 2020.
Don’t date the poster!!!!
That date for Hunger Games 2 seems a bit presumptive…
Also, very surprising that Jennifer Lawrence’s team would agree to that timing; a lame Hunger Games sequel is hardly the project you want her to be doing then, since it would prevent her from participating in a film that’s actually worthwhile creatively and artistically, not to mention at the box office.
I bet it’s just Lionsgate trying to great momentum for the franchise, which is actually a bad sign at this point since it would mean the first film is going poorly.
It is going poorly. The majority of readers abhor the choices Gary Ross made for Peeta and Gale. 2 very unappealing guys. That’s what they get for hiring Gary Ross.
Yes, very unappealing. You probably don’t have eyes.
Can we stop with movies made for super hero nerds and book nerds? Do I have to stick with television to find a scintilla of original script writing?
