UPDATE: Syfy’s programming chief Mark Stern issued the following statement: “Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia have brought a creative vitality to Eureka that has kept it fresh and inventive. Although we do not have a commitment beyond six episodes for the sixth season, we are hopeful that this will not be the end of the franchise.” Note that the statement doesn’t say “the end of the series”. We will see…
EXCLUSIVE: SyFy’s Eureka will be coming to an end. I’ve learned that the cable network is close to ordering six more episodes, which will mark the end of the sci-fi series starring Collin Ferguson and Salli Richardson-Whitfield. SyFy is currently airing Season 4.5 of Eureka, while the show is filming the 13 episodes from Season 5. I hear filming is expected to wrap as planned at the end of the month, with the cast and crew coming back in October to shoot the final six episodes. Created by Andrew Cosby and Jaime Paglia and produced by Universal Cable Prods, Eureka is set in the fictional town of Eureka, Ore., inhabited almost entirely by geniuses and scientists. The current Season 4.5 premiered last month with 2 million total viewers, 893,000 of them in the adults 18-49 category. As we reported earlier this week, SyFy also is poised to renew Warehouse 13.

I can’t believe they are going to cancel my favorite show! There is so much still to cover that can’t get wrapped up in 6 episodes. I am severly disappointed in SyFy. I wasn’t at all interested in Alphas after the first few episodes and hate all the other dumb “ghost” shows on there. This and Warehouse 13 were the only shows on SyFy to watch for me and W13 comes in second to Eureka by far. Eureka has more substance and that makes it completely loveable. Bad move. Very bad move.
The episodes this summer (2011) have just plain beenhard to watch. The show has gotten just plain silly. The actors don’t even look like are taking their parts seriously. I used to love Eureka, but with SyFy splitting the short seasons up so baddly who can keep track of what’s going on?
I love Eureka I think the whole is is great it has the right blend of SiFi comedy and weirdness. as for warehouse 13 I like that also but Alpha is just plain boring. I believe WWE does not be long on SYFY it belongs on sprots channels.
My thoughts exactly .
Oh, no! This is terrible. It’s such a great show, and what a terrible idea to cancel it!
Hollywood Reporter is reporting that SyFy has already ordered a fifth season and a sixth “half-season”, and has no plans to cancel, as of 8/4. And they have quotes from the president of SyFy. I would go with them.
This is CRAZY!!! why does SYFY keep canciling good shows?!?! After SGU, if they off Eureka and Warehouse 13 then I’m done…. I’m so tired of getting into a show just to have it yanked off the air!!
Eureka is supposed to be in Oregon?! When they did the crossovers with Warehouse 13 I thought there were references to them both being in reasonable proximity to one another in South Dakota.
Why would you end one of the BEST shows on SYFY? MORE stupid WWE? Yeah that is SYFY!! More like a SOAP!! Where is DS9? WHERE are all the SYFY shows from the past? No we get to watch WRESTLING and stupid SHOWS that have NOTHING to do with SYFY…HELLO! ITS CALLED SciFI and maybe that is why they cahnged the name.
A couple of quick things:
They have always stated that Eureka is in Oregon.
I don’t understand all the WWE on Syfy — wrestling is fiction, but it’s not SCIENCE fiction.
I love Eureka. Its sad, but understandable. the show has gone on for a nice period of time. It seems we still get two more seasons after the current one at least. This show def. has a great mix of characters/actors/writting. It is by far my favorite SYFY show. I hope to see Colin Ferguson on a new show after his commitment to Eureka is over bc he really does make the show. I never got into Warehouse 13 because i didn’t like the combination of the actors/characters of th e show. I agree alphas is boring, but it has potential with good character development/drama.
Eureka is perhaps the last good show on SyFy, a channel that is going out of its way to drive itself into the ground. It gets rid of all its good series to instead offer us insipid make-believe like Ghost Hunters and a literal insult to the viewers in the form of Wrestling.
Part of this trend is to jerk us around by offering us Eureka in a reduced format — come on, ten to six shows is NOT a real season! Syfy hasn’t been supporting Eureka very well — it is going into its so called “Seventh Season” yet has only given us maybe FOUR seasons worth of episodes. This is another classic example of SyFy “talking” a good game while offering us as little as possible.
I am almost to the point of giving up on Syfy completely. It used to be my favorite channel, but with the end of any meaningful Syfy mini-series, the loss of any show with any hardcore science-fiction in it, and the abundance of low-brow “reality” shows that are just guys running around playing make-believe which ask us NOT to think…well, watching Syfy is becoming embarrassing. I’ve got much better things to do than reward those running the channel when they clearly feel only contempt for actual science-fiction fans!
Eureka is fantastic,I schedule all my activities around this show and Warehouse 13. Alpha’s is stupid and the other Paranormal shows are awful.I hope they at least finish the last 6 episodes.
