The low-budget film based on the hit Channel 4/E4 TV comedy series about four hapless teenage boys looks set for a big weekend in the UK. The Inbetweeners rang up $4.25M from 409 sites in its first day of previews for Entertainment Film Distributors Wednesday. That’s more than last year’s biggest UK production, StreetDance 3D, took in on its first weekend and previews combined.
Mark Batey, chief executive of the Film Distributors’ Association, indicated that the impressive first day could prompt exhibitors to increase its screen count. “This is an absolute bullseye score for the UK cinema audience around the country; that 15 to 24 demographic is key.” A two-for-one ticket offer sponsored by a mobile phone company boosted admissions. The film is directed by Ben Palmer and written by Damon Beesley and Ian Morris, the creative team from the TV version who are also behind the MTV Inbetweeners series adaptation, slated to launch next year. Producer Christopher Young and the cast are in, too. Film4 financed and produced with Young Bwark. IM Global is handling international sales on the film, which does not have a U.S. distributor.

I want this movie in the US…PLEASE! I love Inbetweeners…laugh-out-loud funny.
awesome its better than most teen uk shows…well deserved
i remember when the lincoln lawyer tried a special deal for tix to get people in theaters and this site ridiculed them for it…
has to be some way we can see it! i need to see neil pop n lock all night long.
This show is awesome! PLEASE someone bring it to the US ASAP!!!!
I’m doubting the 2-4-1 offer helped as much as usual as there seemed to be a huge amount of prebooking for this. It definitely seems possible that this could be bigger than the Hangover 2 here, seeing as the WoM sounds very positive. Shame it won’t travel to the rest of the world as well.
The two for one offer has been going on here for about 10 years and is called Orange Wednesdays.
Our tickets are about twice the price of yours too (about £8 a ticket where I understand yours are about $8)
Meh. Australia can beat that! the cost of a normal ticket to see a film in OZ is $17.50 3D your talking $21 dollars & $1 for glasses.
& that’s when the Aussie dollar is worth $1.03 US.
This is different. The phone company ‘Orange’ offers a 2 for 1 deal EVERY Wednesday all year round for any cinema, any film.
Great show. Hope the movie gets a US theatrical release.
Such a great show. It is horrible that here in the US we only get a a heavily edited version of the show, and we get it years after it aired in the UK.
We are the United States of America and supposed to be the freest country in the world. Yet our TV choices are extremely limited. And we can’t see amazing shows like The Inbetweeners.
Of course MTV is doing an American version of the show. It is going to be horrible. They can’t bring to the US the type of comedy, the language, or the camaraderie of the cast. It’s going to be Coupling all over again.
EXACTLY. It’s every Wednesday and therefore irrelevant.
It’s not comparable to The Lincoln Lawyer situation.
Oh wow, I’d heard they were going to do a movie, but didn’t realize it had already been shot and opening in the UK! A buddy from London told me about the show, and I love it. Hopefully a way to see it here in the states!
