UPDATE MONDAY: I’ve got more information on the shrouded-in-secrecy ninth-season premiere of CBS’ comedy Two and a Half Men, which will feature the debut of new star Ashton Kutcher and which I now hear will be a two-parter. I have been able to confirm that Charlie Sheen’s character Charlie Harper is indeed dead and the season premiere will feature his funeral. Charlie’s girlfriends will come back for the occasion, and his house indeed will be put on the market. The episode will feature potential buyers coming to see the house (as I reported earlier, the list is expected to include real-life celebrities and stars from Men co-creator Chuck Lorre’s other series), with Ashton Kutcher among them. However, I hear he will not be the rightful owner of Charlie Harper’s digs by the end of the premiere episode, with the storyline expected to be extended into Episode 2. As part of CBS and Men producer Warner Bros. TV’s efforts to keep details of the premiere under wraps, I hear the cast has been asked to sign non-disclosure agreements, something potential audience members for the Friday taping will be required to do too.
PREVIOUS SUNDAY 6 PM: Speculation over the plot of the rebooted Two and a Half Men is expected to go into overdrive next week when production on the upcoming ninth season begins. Co-creator/executive producer Chuck Lorre has been mum on the setup for Two and a Half Men 2.0 and the way new star Ashton Kutcher will be introduced to the series. In keeping with the secrecy, I hear the cast members of the show were supposed to get their scripts for the season opener on Friday night, only two days before the Monday table read. As for what is in the script, the few in the know are keeping details close to the vest, but I hear that the Malibu beachfront house where Charlie Sheen’s character Charlie Harper lived with his brother (Jon Cryer) and nephew (Angus T. Jones) is put up for sale. Word is that a number of real-life Hollywood celebrities, including stars from other current and/or previous Lorre series, may tour the house, possibly joined by Kutcher. (It is unclear whether he will play a character or himself.) As for Charlie Harper, there has been speculation that Lorre won’t be able to resists killing off the character after being verbally savaged (and sued) by the actor who played him. The signs point in that direction — the Season 9 premiere is expected to feature all or most of Harper’s numerous ex-girlfriends. In terms of production next week, I hear that attendance at the table read will be kept to a bare minimum, but the Friday taping will be done in front of a live audience, not on a closed set. Still, I hear that some key scenes may be filmed separately with no audience and that producers will try to prevent leaks as much as they can, including banning press from the taping. But keeping details under wraps will be virtually impossible in the era of texting and Twitter.

There will be a lot of drive-by gawking for the first episode to see what manner of train wreck they’ve whipped up. Then will come the slow wasting death by ratings.
2.5 Men (or now 2.25 Men with the recasting, hardly an upgrade) was on its last legs anyway. At least people will get paid, and (hopefully) nobody will die from it.
1 Man, 1 Kid and 1 Retarded Ape
I admit it’s not much of a title anymore.
Really…all of you aren’t even thinking of the snarkiest & best revenge Chuck Lorre could have – he could keep the character alive & have all sorts of irrational fun with the disappearance. & it would bug the crap out of Sheen… so – on with the game, since that is what all of this is.
Chuck Lorre sucks. End of story.
Hi, Charlie. How’s rehab?
You’re really asking the wrong person, aren’t you?
I refuse to watch anything with Ashton Kutcher in it.
Me too!
I hate Rush Limbaugh. Have you ever listened to him? No, and I wouldn’t listen to him. I wouldn’t watch anything with with Kutcher
in it for the same silly reason. Some people, sounds like a democrat.
do the truly intelligent people of America really care about this show. Here are the facts…none of my WELL-KNOWN writer friends even watch this show-and still won’t even with Kutcher…This show isn’t even popular here in Los Angeles… So regarding this simple-minded, low IQ show who really cares…. bringing on all the ex-girlfriends for the 1st show…no one was really that interesting..except Jenny McCarthy and the character of ROSE….please leave Chelsea to reruns.
Because LA is so quality wise…LMAO…whatever..eyeroll
Wow, August, you said “intelligent people” and “America” is the same sentence.
Oh wow, you have friends who are writers AND live in LA, I am deeply impressed. You truly ARE a better person than everyone else in this country. Please please tell us more of what wisdom pours forth from LA.
Apparently you watch the show since you are very familiar with the characters/girlfriends etc… what does that say about you?
Please leave l.a. immediately you fake Angelino.
“do the truly intelligent people of America really care about this show.” I wasn’t aware that “truly intelligent people” were so close
minded as to pass judgement without any knowledge of the subject.
An intelligent legend in his own mind.
You have “WELL-KNOWN writer friends”? Are you a coke whore?
My ideal plot: Charlie Harper drives his car off a cliff and suffers major injuries that require plastic surgery including a full face transplant. When the bandages come off Charlie Harper looks like Ashton Kooshner.
Lame, soap opera are corny and so yesterday..MOVING ON
I don’t have an opinion about Charlie vs Ashton, but the back n forth about the two Darrens cracked me up. Thanks Deadline community!
me i have : team Charlie by far (and i quite like Kutcher but no matter what he doesn’t play in the same league as the Masheen)
I hope Denise Richardson appears in the episode.
I hope Denise Richards appears in the episode.
There was almost no difference between “Harper” & Sheen.
…well there was, Sheen was far worse than the “bad boy” he was playing & that rendered the show, for me, unwatchable.
Kutched
How do you know that ? Do you know Charlie Sheen ?
Well actually i know the answer and it is pretty pathetic for you..
Kutcher brings the mischevious nature of the show back, minus the whores & inebriated, un-scripted melodrama. Of all people, Sheen should’ve known that a major star CAN successfully be replaced. This is likely to be a painful lesson, once it works thru the stupor, but it doesn’t matter to me. I can watch TWO & a HALF MEN again, & that makes me happy. Cryer, Taylor, Farrell, Jones & Lorre deserve better than they’d been given.
bring on the horrors and berta….i dont think this is the job for Ashton he is a bit to goofy its like repalcing charlie with alan UGH not gone work….i agree ashton needs to shave he tries to look older for his cougar wife charlie would have had a field day with her….BRING BACK CHARLIE!! DOWN WITH CHUCK….
They really need to tee up the scene next May when Charlie comes out of the shower and the Monday line-up needs to be saved.
I really think this will work. The supporting cast is phenomenal and charlies “same old same old” was getting real old, real quick. I have high hopes.
The success of 2.5 men was due to Charlie Sheen great comedic timing. No offense to his co-stars but Sheen was the motor that kept it running. the network made a huge mistake without Sheem. they knew going into it that Sheen is a wonderful actor that has had his personal demons since he was 17.
They are not tracing him a lesson. les Moonves should have talked to him and said Charlie this is effecting your image and I am concerned for your health. please get some help and come back with a personal program in place. Charlie is a lovely guy who people do want to work with.
he needs a new team around him and he will right back in a bigger way. he is a movie star. Come on Quentin and Judd Apatow. give him the right role and watch him handle himself.
I Totally agree… No Charlie Sheen.. No Two and a Half men…
Lorre wants to prove it can be a huge hit without Charlie..I don’t think so.
I think Charlie’s new show will do great, he’s very good.
Can we please get people with more than a 3rd grade education to comment on this website? Seriously!
We’re discussing a television show, what do you expect?? Lorre and Sheen and Moonves barely graduated 4th grade, do you really expect their followers to have graduated 3rd grade. Although I’ve got news for you college graduates are the new 3rd graders.
You got that right, normal stupid reactions
Heavy sigh…bottom line, all you tv analysts: doesn’t matter what happens. Chuck L’s the boss of many shows, Charlie S is just an actor. They both might total dicks (or not). But Chuck’s got the upper hand no matter how you slice that pie, baby.
WELP back to my job at the post office…..la ti taa…..
does that mean Sheldon and Leonard from The Big bang thoery is going to be in the premiere?? as it says “and stars from Men co-creator Chuck Lorre’s other series”,, if thats true, that would be awesome!
Honestly, I’ve never watched this show. I could care less if Charlie Sheen ever acts again in anything. He’s a total idiot with too much money. Maybe he’ll OD and we’ll all be done with this long, unnecessary nightmare.
haha
How exactly are “we” in this long and unnecessary nightmare? How exactly are you affected by all of this?? Wow.
What’s kutchers role
I think Kutcher will do a great job and I hope the show goes on and on
I think Lorre has to be smart enough not to kill off Charlie because his character was larger than life. If he’s going to pull off a funeral without alienating the fan base it’s going to have to be due to Charlie faking his own death to escape a woman or the IRS or something. That would be very true to Charlie while still causing him to disappear.
The whole show took place in the mind of an autistic child staring at a snow globe.
Ashton Kutcher was great in the 70s Show so this might have a chance. In real life he’s a douchebag to the 9th degree but that didn’t affect his portrayal of Kelso so hopefully it will be just as good in this show.
Having said that, the big selling point of 2 and a Half Men was the fact that it mirrored Charlie’s real life so I don’t know how long the show will go on without him.
Two and a Half Men has always been a great show! Yes, Charlie Sheen did make it for a bit more interesting, but the other characters did a really good job keeping me entertained as well. I see a lot of people are on the fence about watching this first show, since Ashton is replacing what is now a dead Charlie Harper. Some die-hard Charlie Sheen fans are either stating they won’t watch at all, or only plan to watch to see what the first episode holds. I like Charlie Sheen as well, and think he is a good character, and did a lot for that show. I believe he was let go for some bull, but it is what it is now. Who knows if Ashton can fill Charlie’s shoes on the show, but I’d like to see him give it a shot. I bet Ashton has a lot riding on him, and I expect to see him come through with some of his best sitcom work to date. I think it would be unfair to only watch the first episode and base the rest of the series on that one episode alone. Me, myself, I will watch as many episodes as I can stand, until I see that it is not living up to or isn’t better than what the show was previously.
Killing off Charlie! That is so morbid for a sitcom! Setting my DVR now.
And in Dallas… it was just JR’s dream.
Dead is never dead in TV land.
I’m going with Illegitimate son who Charlie left everything to. Would keep the family living and makes an easy transition on why this would keep going. I thought Charlie was great in this show, but Berta, Allen and Jake can hold their own as long as Lorre can keep the scripts rolling.
Very good! I like it. But can Ashton Kutcher win over Sheen’s fans….
this is the biggest flop of all times, every week the same sick to death of the divorce, this show sucks big time, once my fav show now i don’t care if i ever see it again
