HOLLYWOOD, CA (August 3, 2011) – Worldwide box office receipts for TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, have hit $1 billion, Paramount Pictures announced today. To date, the third installment of the hit Transformers franchise, and the first shot in 3-D, has grossed $338 million in U.S. (through Monday) and $663 million internationally (through Tuesday).
“TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON is the first billion dollar grossing movie in the history of Paramount Pictures, marking a substantial milestone in the 99 year life of this legendary studio,” said Brad Grey, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Paramount Pictures. “We are grateful for the extraordinary work of Michael Bay and his film-making team, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and everyone at Paramount around the globe who played a part in helping make this latest TRANSFORMERS one of the 10 highest grossing films worldwide of all time.”
Earlier this summer, Paramount was the first studio to reach $1 billion in domestic grosses, aided by the $180.7 million opening of TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON over the July 4th holiday. This is the fifth year in a row that Paramount has reached the milestone before any other studio. Paramount Pictures International crossed the $2 billion mark on July 30th, making it the first for any studio this year to reach the benchmark. The studio has had six consecutive movies earning over $100 million at the domestic box office in 2011.
TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON is directed by Michael Bay, written by Ehren Kruger and produced by Don Murphy & Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ian Bryce. The executive producers are Steven Spielberg, Michael Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. When a mysterious event from Earth’s past erupts into the present day it threatens to bring a war to Earth so big that the Transformers alone will not be able to save us. The movie stars Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, Julie White with John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.

What about a little movie called Titanic?
Titanic was only Paramount’s in the US not internationally, therefore the gross is still “only” $620m
Paramount only released Titanic domestic.
GREAT!!!!! More layoffs at Paramount! (I love it when they brag about their pots of gold and then cut out the very people who helped get them those pots). How about we cut out a few top execs this go around instead of the real workers.
We now have three films this year that have crossed the billion dollar mark. Transformers 3 might still have enough power left to surpass Pirates 4, but it will probably not beat Potter, which crossed the billion dollar mark after just two weeks in theaters and is on its way to become the third highest grossing film of all time. Transformers 3 might end up 5th or 6th on the list, which is not bad at all.
It’s more than bad. It’s horrific. Nightmarish. Depressing as hell. It guarantees more crap making it’s way to theaters in the years to come.
Hey, does anyone own the movie rights to Gumby & Pokey? I smell another great, big, barrel of cash for the taking!
Dan in NYC comments like that is why you can’t find work in LA. Stay in NYC with your money losing movies no one wants to see about depressed women whose son has just committed suicide after flashbacks of being molested while doing charity work in Sri Lanka set in the 1940′s. Dumb ass. Appreciate the blockbusters which keep people working and bring a crap load of money back into the country for a change. Douche. Nuff Said.
Whatya know? Schlock sells!
Obviously was going to gross a billion!! Not surprising
Bay is the ultimate snake oil salesman.
Great movie! Well earned! Congrats to Bay & Co. Critics are idiots.
It’s an embarrassingly shitty movie that should have been great given the talent involved and the budget. But people seem to just eat this stuff up, so what the hell can Hollywood do but make more of it?
Paramount should be gifting the original cast.
Not even a thankyou acknowledging all the cast. Guys do the right thing and give the original cast 1 mill each.
Sweet. While I love art house, indie, and truly beautifully scripted films, I also love a good action-packed summer tent pole movie. Something that is just plain old mindless fun. If you’re purposely going to watch this movie, it’s not for an amazing and awesome story. It’s just not, so get on track with that idea. You go to see big robots duking it out. That’s. All. If you think Transformers 1-3 is a crap of a film, apparently you missed practically all the action films from the 80′s besides Die Hard.
HA HA HA, Another fun movie blows away the depressing dren that the Hollywood elitists are constantly trying to foist upon us lowly hicks.
There’s “Mindless Fun” and then there is “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”. It was so sad how a mega-budgeted movie created to give everyone in the audience a thrill ride ended up being incredibly boring. The story sucked so you don’t care about what’s happening. You just want it to finish.
If they make a T4, they really should consider cutting the running time. Changing the characters. And stop focusing making the action “Global” if you are only going to make a mess.
The first one is still the best one.
C’est la vie 2011
I actually saw Transformers 3. I loved it. I want to work with Bay in the future.
I’m SO gonna miss Michael Bay, but Transformers 3 rocks. For all the haters out there, get over it! Who needs film critics anyway.
I dont like Lucas animation and its companies, I have been trying, trying, trying to join there force for the past 4 years but i have never got a feed back from them, they will just post lots and lots of job vacancies but they will never ever reply. The company and its computer graphics is mind blowing but there recruitment process sucks big time. Sorry to tell about that. Stop impressing the people (youngster) by your Works because people will like to join with you. Thank you
