TruTV has teamed with Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg’s Katalyst for a reality series set at the DMV. Tentatively titled California DMV: Field Offices, the series “will provide an eye-opening, behind-the-scenes look at hard-working personnel who deal with everything from issuing licenses and registering vehicles to maintaining accident records and investigating complaints,” the network said. Added Goldberg,
“We’ve all spent time at the DMV, but few people know what it’s like to work for the DMV.”

Is this a joke? For the love of god, make them stop.
“Hard working” – lol
I bet Ashton could sh!t in a box and someone would buy it.
Oh wait, too late.
What’s next? Some reality genius waits too long in line at Ralph’s and comes up with Ashton’s next big show called “California Ralph’s” Checkout Lines”?
Ralphs? Perhaps. “Rite-Aid” though… I could get behind that one. HAHAHA!
Yeah… maybe just an entire show about waiting in lines at various retail store. One week it’s the DMV. Then Rite-Aid. Then Target.
Luv it.
Who wants to greenlight this bad boy?
Jason Goldberg must have done something horrible in a previous life to be saddled with developing the reality ‘shows’ that come out of Kutcher’s mind.
Poor bastard.
As one who has worked with the public (in retail and dealing with customer service) calls, one shouldn’t assume that people who work at the DMV aren’t working. It takes a lot to deal with a whole lot of attitudes and not the greatest pay. Yes, its about life choices, and they don’t have to work there but don’t make generalizations.
That being said…do we really need a reality show about DMV workers? Why don’t I create a reality show about working at Macy’s, McDonald’s, Best Buy they get crazy people there to. I am not trying to hate on Ashton as he has bills to pay, and make money (okay I am a bit jealous) but seriously…does anyone do anything creatively with actors and actresses in Hollywood anymore?
I agree that this is a terrible idea for a show and i dislike Ashton Kutcher. But don’t take a way from the DMV workers. They work harder then alot of people in this industry, have to deal with assholes like me in line, and are probably not paid much.
For about three years begining in ’05, I had to make more visits to the DMV than I’d wish on anyone, meaning I had to go there about five times. It looked to me like working there would be very stressful. Saw one guy escorted out by security. Wouldn’t work there for anything.
Zzzzzzz….Oh, I’m sorry, a reality show about the DMV and…zzzzzzz
TRU TV really loves cars. Is the network run by a retired mechanic? Who calls the shots there… AJ Foyt?
What an idiotic idea.
It’s not a terrible idea. It’s also not the greatest. But, seriously, can you guys in Hollywood shoot something outside of California? There are 49 other states and millions more you can relate to.
This is pretty ridiculous… can you imagine somebody pitching this without Ashton’s fame?
“And get this – its set at . . . wait for it . . . the DMV!!”
Bingo. The executive who picked this up probably thought “I know it’s a stupid idea but it has Ashton Kutcher’s name on it. They can’t fire me for buying something by Ashton Kutcher!”
What the heck are these people thinking? Someone’s life must truly be pathetic to follow the mundane life of the employees of the DMV. First of all, there is NOTHING interesting about what they do. Sure, it’s necessary, but interesting? Second, the DMV is by far one of the worst examples of efficency in today’s working world. They and the city courts are among the worst places for service, professionalism, and innovation.
Rarely have I read an article that has evoked such rage in me…
Ohmygodohmygodohmygod I can’t wait! This is the best idea anybody’s ever come up with! It’s like Shakespeare, except at the DMV and without all the writing!
lmao
sadness.
I am not an Ashton fan but have to ask,
If this was a scripted show (and please, don’t tell me there’s never been a scripted show about the DMV at some point in development) would there be so many haters? If someone said, “There’s a reality show about a cab company” there would be all kinds of negative comments but yet, Taxi was a great series. And before you say, “Sure – that was an amazing scripted show with terrific characters (which is true),” why does making a reality version of something have to be so frowned upon? Sometimes truth can be stranger and equally as entertaining as fiction.
Your musing doesn’t change the fact that this is not a scripted show. I’d rather eat glass than waste time watching the yawn-inspiring reality that is the DMV.
“Sometimes truth can be stranger and equally as entertaining as fiction.”
Now just hold on. The reason Taxi was successful (and yet hardly a ratings darling after the 2nd season) was because it was about relationships not cabs.
A reality show about a cab co. would suck. And so does this idea. But more power to Ashton, if he can pitch crap and get a pilot he’s at least putting people to work in TV.
You refute his post, but then back up yours up with specious comments that undermine your statements evaluating the DMV idea based on a few log lines.
It’s too easy to be a hater…
dogshit!
I predict this will be bigger than Cheers!
Next from Kutcher and Goldberg: Escrow Office. The edgy world of signing hundreds of documents in triplicate. Geniuses.
hahaha! I love it! Followed by Real Accountants from New Jersey and Copy Machine Repairmen: The True Stories!
Good opportunity for AAA to run ads during this show.
I hate the DMV. They seem to only employe “The lazy and the stupid”. Every DMV employee could not make it at s non goverment job. UNLESS I see A DMV EMPLOEE get knocked out every minute there is NO WAY IN HELL I woud watch a show about LAZY AND STUPID GOVERMENT WORKERS
Am I the only person who watches Parking Wars. I feel sad now.
Definitely time to polish up my treatment for “Hydraulic Pumps of the Third Reich”.
Cable is ready for this 10 part magnum opus reconstructed solely from German industrial training films at a cost of less than $100K per episode.
I just wanna know how long the line is to get in?
They should do a reality show in the Marriage license building in NYC – which is a former DMV, complete with the blinking deli-style screens with your number on it!
THAT would be entertaining.
Next up: the post office! Lots of people go to the post office but few know what it’s like to work there.
The number of reality series is limitless! I’m waiting for a show on toll bridge cashiers.
