Just like the series it was most recently paired with, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, USA Network’s U.S. Marshal drama In Plain Sight too will be coming to an end. The network has ordered an eight-episode fifth and final season to air in the spring. In Plain Sight marked the first major USA series under the network’s current regime that had a female lead, Mary McCormack. The network was so high on her, they delayed the series’ launch by a year when she got pregnant. In Plain Sight went through several showrunners, most recently Ed Decter and John J. Strauss, who joined before Season 4 and will return for the final eight episodes. The fourth-season finale of In Plain Sight aired on Sunday and was up 6% from the Season 3 closer. For the season, the series averaged 4.9 million viewers, up 8% from last year. In other USA news, the sixth season of USA’s buddy sleuth dramedy Psych will premiere Oct. 12. The network also renewed freshman Suits earlier today.

Not suprised by this. Mary McCormack wants to raise her family. No anger at that decision. Thank you for the excellent four (going on five) seasons!
It’s been great and I don’t blame anyone for wrapping it up and moving on. Thanks to everyone involved.
Not exactly a renewal considering they ordered the fifth season last year.

IPS was actually renewed for 2 seasons (4 and 5) after season 3 ended. All this is really confirming is it’s the last and the episode order was cut. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mary McCormack wanted it to be the last since she’s expecting next month and lives in LA, not New Mexico and probably wants to end the show sooner so she can spend more time with her kids.
i just love when people post on deadline and think they know what’s up and they haven’t a clue what the real story is.
…so what is the real story?
I’m sorry to see it go.
when is usa going to make their announcement about what scripts are going to pilot? we read about them months ago. i still have the list and the ones that sound the most promising are the einsteins show and the one about the woman and fbi agent, i think it was called hard cover. really happy that IPS is coming back for one more season, i love this show so mch.
This show is so good – very entertaining characters even if the stories are fluffy – I always enjoy it!
Sorry to see them move on, but hopefully to other good things.
Really do not understand why it is canceled since it is one of the best on the tube.
The numbers are up and it’s cancelled – I don’t get it. Too bad, it was a pleasure to watch.
I’m also sorry to see it go. You invest in these characters for years…. But if the speculation is right, and it was McCormack’s decision, I hope she never works again: A starring role, her own series, increased ratings, a developing character arc, great supporting cast — as an actor, isn’t that what you look for? As a forty-something actor with major childbearing hip issues, isn’t that what you KILL for?
glad to see it renewed for at least one more season even if its a short one hopefuly the creators will let Mary and co end the series the right way and some happy endings.
Shame as far as I’m concerned – Weller and McCormack have great rapport.
THIS IS A GOOD SERIES. LOVE THE WAY SHE DEALS WITH THINGS IN WORK AND PERSONAL. VERY REAL! WISH THERE COULD BE MORE OF THE SERIES. OUR FAMILY LOOKS FORWARD TO SEEING IT EVERY WEEK.
I was angrey when I heard a few months back. I am really not liking this at all. But I still watch all the old ones. I just love this show.
I really love this series, and it had great potential. I am VERY disappointed at what they did with the series. They cut seasons short; they terminated an excellent series; and they are letting a good storyline go. My favorite part of the series was the character interaction and personal (rather than business i.e. witness) part of the storylines. If they can’t continue with this one, maybe they can come come up with sort of a parallel.
I am very sorry to see it go.
Bummer LOVE the show. Hat to see it go.
I love this show, was the only one I ever bought the episodes. The story lines, reality & character interaction are unequaled. USA has a big hit with this one. Now the end & only 8 more episodes. I HATE to see it go, will end up watching less of USA network anymore.
Please don’t end IPS, in is a great family show. Not too Law & Order. And not too fluffy. Its real, it shows what women like me in Law Enforcement, are tough, but do have a soft side to her family, and loyal friends. Please keep it on the air. The real MaryM. Is the best actress. Me and my family rather watch it in place of Fairly Legal. It shows what many strong woman in Law Enforcement are, that we are sexy and great, and she doesn’t have to wear sexy clothes and high heals, like Fairly Legal. I will miss Marys’ opening words, and closing words…PLEASE KEEP IPS, everyone on the cast is great…and I love MARSHALL MARSHALL!!!! There are sooo many stories yet to be told, like her Dad coming back ect. Thank Youj
Well at least we get a final season
I am so sad that Stan, Jinx, Marshall, as well as Mary will no longer be a part of my weekly line-up. The way that the characters’ personalities unfolded made you invested in them. Great writing and great acting. I hope that all of these excellent actors will be in another show soon, preferably together. I ended up loving the characters and now am sad to see the show end.
Does any one else want Mary and Marshall to get togeather??????????? If this is the last season they should make it happen!!!! I do love this show and wish they would not end it.
I can’t understand why you take off the good shows and put on garbage. The new show that is coming in May, Common Law is just a throw off of Miami Vice, but worse. Get original and leave on In Plain sight or something else. We have seen enough of these black cop/ white cop shows that are a couple of jerks. Look at Psych for example, that is what I mean. Give Don Johnson a break and move on. We need more fire on In Plain Sight! Don’t end the good ones. Stay away from the dead ones.
