Warner Bros said today that it has found a place for its Zac Efron movie The Lucky One, which will be released Aug. 24, 2012. The romantic drama based on Nicholas Sparks’ novel stars Efron as a Marine who survives three tours of Iraq, attributing his good luck to a photo he carried of a woman he doesn’t even know. When he returns to the U.S., he sets out to find her. Scott Hicks is directing; Taylor Schilling also stars. Denise DiNovi and Kevin McCormick are producing.

Please, not another Nocholas Sparks movie. Who’s going to be the feamle lead – Amanda Seyfried?
This has direct-to-DVD or Lifetime movie of the week written all over it.
fyi amanda seigfreid has only been in one nicholas sparks movie and as it happens the lucky one is my favorite book of his. maybe if you started reading books you would understand why nicholas sparks is so successful. his books are well written and charactures are so well formed. any movie of his that isnt amazing is the directors fault not his.
well said Gina!
Spot on, Gina!!!!! Some people put their mouths in gear before they put brains in motion. But then, that leads to the assumption that we all use our brains for worthwhile things. Popular movies get lots of play time. Really good ones get more than that and this is another of Nicholas’ efforts that has proven to be really good. That being said, it is only one movie. Just one. That’s all. ONE!
started t type the same response and then saw you had said it perfectly!!!
Well said Gina. I don’t do a lot of reading, but I know what I like. I have enjoyed every Sparks novel I’ve read. If you were to watch me reading his novels, you would see me laugh, cry, cheer(loud), scream, and any other emotion you can think of. I love reading his books. I look forward to the next one.
I second that one too gina! lol I don’t know you but, I’ve read the Lucky One soo many times that I can recite the whole book. Cannot wait for this movie to come out!!

it better not be -.-
@Carthy- Seriously? It never matters who’s in his movies! Whoever is in his movies does an awesome job at telling Nicholas’s story. He’s also never repeated an actor or actress in his movies? Question? Why did you join this sight if you have no clue? Nicholas is the greatest author ever!
You obviously haven’t read the books. They are actually pretty great. And this will make a great movie.
I’ve read every single novel Mr. Sparks has published. How many people have you met in today’s virtual world can make that claim?
The wonderful thing about fiction is that when you read it, you can imagine the details. His writing paints the proverbial canvas with wide strokes where the landscape seems to come alive. There are times that I fell like I can smell the salt and pine in the air.
When any book is adapted onto the silver screen, you are experiencing the “painting” through someone elses imagination. It’s probably quite different than many readers have “seen” this work.
In my opinion, generalizing the adaptations of Mr.Sparks’ literary work is wrong. if you are a fan of the novel and will find it difficult to see a tangible depiction of this imaginary story, don’t go. This is stll the USA you have the right to decide to see it or not. To buy the book or not. Yes, even the right to say bad things about it. But please remember when you’re criticizing work which is loved by so many, you are kind if insulting us for liking it. That is your right. I will just say to that, if you don’t have anything constructive or relative to add, you may
want to control your negativity. Nicholas Sparks gives me a bit of escape from how difficult my life can be and the hope that happy endings exist!
Amanda Syfried, Mandy More, Diane Lane, Robin Wright, Rachel Mc Adams, who cares? They are all different and unique….just like we all are:)
I agree to the above post. I,too have read every one one of Nichosas sparks books and I have never been dissapointed in ayone of them. I am on my way tomorrow to pick up the latest. The BestOf Me and I can’t wait to get started. If you read the books and qatched the movie after ,the mmovie is so much better. I am a true fan of Nicholas Sparks. He makes me feel good even if the ending is not a happy ending . As we all know life is not always a bowl of cherry’s…………
Actually i have read all Nicholas’s Sparks book not just you ok…and Constance by the way happy ending don’t happen unless your actually happy with yourself…
another piece of schlock from the master.
he has to go through 3 tours to find this woman?
When I think of battle weary vets, I imagine Audey Murphy, Frank Sutton, Jack Warden. Lee Marvin and pretty boy Zac Efron. What part of Iraq was he stationed at? The part that’s at EPCOT?
Joke has failed. There’s no Iraq pavilion at Epcot.
I beg to differ. My son is on his 8th tour and he is every bit as “pretty” as Efron and three of the women in his unit look like Hollywood starlets (without the make-up). And if you want to see pretty- take a look at the SEALs that were just killed in Afghanistan. Almost three calendars worth. I’m thinking you may be my age or a little older. The grizzly, weather-beaten stereotype is exactly that- a 50s and 60s stereotype. We make sure to send them lots of sunscreen and anything else they might need to retain a semblance of their comforts from home – you know, toothbrushes, razors, unscented, shampoos, soaps and deodorants. If not for Zac, then watch for Blythe Danner and Taylor Schilling. Blythe alone is worth the price of admission and some of the scenery is simply spectacular. Look at Houmas House….the Jewel of the Mississippi. Maybe you just need a little romance in your life.
Very well said. I hope your son is doing well.
So it wasn’t his fellow marine’s protecting him, skilled doctors, or modern warfare technology.
It was a picture of some random chick….Makes sense.
Bring on the dreck, Hollywood!
Life is for living
LOLOLOLOL
Ohh and “We’re all in this together”. Can’t forget that one. Classic.
Agree with everyone else that says that the idea is stupid, but we’re probably not in the target audience. Honestly, Nicholas Sparks + Zack Efron seems like a no-brainer.
august 24th? open a movie when young girls are going back to school. seems smart.
I am guessing they are trying for a weekend with very low competition. Relying on older Sparks fans, and mother/daugter outings. And then maybe pick up school reunion outings into it’s run. Seems imaginative but risky, to me. I can’t remember another romantic drama opening at the end of august.
My Bad. Nights at Rodanthe, another Nick Sparks flick, was released 9/26/08. But it didn’t perform too well. I think the release date for Dear John, a week before Valentines Day, is a much better release date for this film.
Zac has a lot of good projects coming up, they are just trying to capitalise on those. Having seen a preview, it is actually good, not overly soppy as Sparks goes, (the Notebook being the only one i can watch) Zac is good in it and so is Blythe. Even Taylor is pretty good as the female lead. Warner’s would not have given Zac a first look deal if they did not believe in him. Besides, everyone knows this movie was a trade off with them so that he could do projects he is actually interested in, the two he is currently filming for example. You win some, you kinda loose some.
Are you kidding me? He’s a great actor, but the sad thing is, he can’t seem to let himself prove he’s more than a pretty face. Has he made a film yet where he sells it on his talent alone (nor for his shirt coming off)? Whatever..he’ll sell, but what a cheap way to make a mark. Still don’t understand how he’s being taken seriously.
Zac as a Marine? Not so sure I buy that.
Well, Liberace was unavailable, after all……
Unless it was in a remake of Can’t Stop the Music
Have any of you actually read the book? It is a really good book. maybe get the full storyline before judging it.
I agree! I thought the book was actually really good and I am looking forward to seeing the movie.
The book was great! I can’t wait to see the movie, Zac Efron and all…and I’m 30!
Read the Book, Liked the Notebook, and The last song, interested in this one as well.. Cant wait to see it!!!
I amazes me how negative people can be. Nicholas Sparks is a phenomenal author. Hence the reason why many of his books have been made in to movies. As for Zac Efron playing the lead, again, why so negative? Someone obviously believes in his acting abilities.
I agree 100% I liked all of Nicholas Sparks’ books and the movies as well
I personally can’t wait for the movie. I loved the book. I’m am avid Nicholas Sparks book reader. People shouldn’t be so quick to judge. Women watch way more movies than guys. Why do you think there are so many chick flicks? Not everything has to be about blood & gore to be good. Just saying!
Charlie St Cloud was one of his best! He was great in that movie
You said it all. Very good book!!!!!!!!!!!!
Before you start to criticize the production, how about you read the book?
i agree!
I have read several of Nicholas Sparks books and love them all, as well as seeing several of the movies…..LOVE’EM!!!! Oh, by the way I am 40 years old, and I think Zac is a fine young actor. I really liked him in Charlie St Cloud. I say if you’re not into NS books or movies or Zac Efron then don’t see it, but why try to degrade it for the rest of us. You know: If you can’t say something nice then don’t say anything at all.
Nicholas Sparks knows how to grab a reader and hold on to the very end. His characters are real everyday people that go through the same daily dramas that we go through. Only difference? He writes them into a book that always hits the NY Times best seller list over, and over, and over!!!!! He must be doing something right, and so what if his books are chick pics, he knows where his audience is and he writes to and for them!!! AND I’M ONE OF THEM!!! Concerned about 3 deployments to Iraq, and holding onto hope for one woman? Literary license fellas, and it sells!!! Have The Lucky One, but haven’t read it yet, and I’m buying Safe Haven next! Give me Nicholas Sparks anyday!!!!
Beverly Lord, meet H.L. Mencken:
“No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.”
Very well said Beverly…You should read the book, NOW…It is an awesome story. The description given for the book does not do it justice. Can’t wait for the movie.
I couldn’t agree more with you Beverly. Nicholas Sparks is the best author to date. His books are stories and his stories always make great movies. People love him, that is why all of his books make the best seller lists. Sure women tend to be his target audience, and that is because women can be hopeless romantics and dreamers, where men can only see what is in front of them. Remember, for the future, don’t comment on things that you know nothing about. Read one of his books, and then, post a fair comment, otherwise, stop giving your opinion because it means nothing to those of us who know first hand what a talented author NS really is. p.s. give Zac a chance…stop stereotyping !
Savannah, Readers are leaders! Your question is already answered!
I liked the book. I like Zac. But Zac Efron playing a marine? No.
I don’t understand how he think a film like this is going to get him taken seriously as an actor. It appeals to women only, he’s going to get his shirt off. How does that help his career? And WB clearly think it won’t do well, as this was filmed last year and its not being released for another 12 months. He seems to be picking better films now.
Zac Efron is likable and convincing (I’m a guy) but I think it’s a bad move career-wise: he’s digging his own type-casting grave.
With this he’ll never be able to escape that pretty boy image. He needs DiCaprio-style roles: DiCaprio successfully graduated from heartthrob to serious actor precisely because he chose these roles and turned down the sappy ones.
Why would someone say this is a bad career move for Zac Efron?
C’mon Ryan Gosling is on the Notebook on TBS or Lifetime almost every weekend and it definitely is not holding him back from a serious career ( see Blue Valentine and others).
Zac Efron definitely has some chops ( he was quite fun to watch in 17 again and blew away the ever-bland Matthew Perry)
and he refused to do Footloose, because he didn’t want to be seen perpetually as a teenager.
Everyone is looking for another Notebook – and this sounds like it could be it.
the movie comes out on my birthday, I cant wait to see the movie
For all of you haters, if you don’t like it then shutup and stop talking about it. Why must people always be so negative?? The book is a very good book and now they are making into a movie! If you didn’t read the book and you don’t want to see the movie, then thats great, there’s no need to be negative about it. Can’t wait for the movie!!
Haven’t you seen Charlie St. Cloud? It proved that Effron was more than a pretty boy..
why is everyone being so negative about this?
I cannot wait for this movie… it sucks that I have to wait a whole year to see it.
And I agree with Erica… relax on all the judging… the book is awesome, Nicholas Sparks is an amazing author and I can’t wait to watch another one of his novels turned into a movie
And as for Zac Efron… it will be nice to see him with more of a serious role and not those High School Musical stuff.
Anyway, i cannot wait til Aug 2012:)
